So does anyone want to do another Kids Design event? Where we sprite my kids' monster drawings

Let's do it. I got my pixelin' finger ready.

Revive the Dead 2: Deader or Alive

Game Page submitted! Will have a lot more images than what I'm showing here.

Gameplay image:

A glimpse of my battle system I've been working on. There's no mana bar. Before, the skills were limited by cool downs. "Release Rockets", for example, was on a 4 turn cool down as it's a rather powerful skill. Other skills, such as a very powerful "Drill Arm" that's unlocked early, was on an 8 turn cool down.

This cool down system wasn't very fun for me, so I decided to try something different: limited casts between recovery points. Just as its name implies, you have a limited number of casts of each skill before you have to recover and replenish your casts. That way, if you want to bust out your "Drill Arm" skill, you get 2 or 3 shots of it... until you next recover. It's a lot more pro-active and entertaining than the cool down system I was using.

How goes the gammak?

Awful, honestly. I haven't been able to do anything these last few days. Not only have I been busy with tons of work, but I've got a cold I'm dealing with right now that's put me down. Hopefully later this month I'll have more time for this.

I've been noticing people posting about IGMC 2017, might I ask what IGMC is?

The International Gardener Master Conference. We all get together, about once a year, to enjoy a month long seminar where we discuss various strategies to agriculture, landscaping, and general gardening activities. It seems many of us on these forums are fellow gardeners.

Then there's the Indie Game Maker Contest of 2017, where a person or a team must create a game within one month, with a chance of winning $10,000. This year, the tool of choice is an official RPG Maker engine.

Revive the Dead 2: Deader or Alive

What have you accomplished on your project thus far?
A while back, I sat down late at night. I thought, "I should make the town and/or city this game takes place in." So I spent that whole night crafting the residential area, the school, the park, and some nearby caves. I also spent some time tightening up the first "episode" (the game progresses in episodes) in the game.

What unexpected challenges have you run into in reviving your game?
I often ask myself the question, "was it a good idea to make this game episodic, instead of one whole story?" Turns out, coming up with complete short stories, a la episodes, is proving to be quite difficult.

How far through making the game would you say you are, currently?
Still early on, as I only have one episode complete out of a total of 4 or 5.

Now that you've actually started working on the game, do you think you'll finish in time?
Once IGMC 2017 is out of the way, I might. I may have to change the story structure. We'll see.

Can you see any big challenges that you might have to deal with in order to complete the game?
I originally started this game with the idea of making it episodic, like a television show. You could just sit down and play any episode and experience a complete story in the lives of these characters. That means I could also make new episodes and put them up for download, so if someone really enjoyed the game, they could keep playing whenever I added a new episode. I figure if I made all of these setpieces (and I have a lot of graphics created and in place already), that'll give me what's needed to keep the episodes coming. That decision is putting a heavy load on me, and I'm a bit stuck on what to do.

Is there anything in particular that you'd need help with in order to get past these challenges?
Feedback and suggestions. Encouragement.

Would you be willing to ask others to help you with these possible issues?
I'm solo-ing this thing, but feedback on my ideas are always welcome.

Revive the Dead 2: Deader or Alive

I'm stugglin' right now (for part 2 of this event) to decide what to write. The episodic approach is pretty cool in concept, however I'm having a lot of trouble coming up with distinct stories.

So now I'm considering making it all one overarching story, with lots of sidequests sprinkled throughout which tell their own tales.

Misao = Fin

Joanna/@JRL got mentioned twice? Joanna got mentioned twice! That is so awesome! I never thought people had eyes on it, it has very few downloads and only exists as a demo.

As for my own nominations, I'll have to send in my predictions later. I've been super busy and haven't gotten time to play any RPG Maker titles lately. Thanks again for the mentions!

Steam keys for resources? I got a few dupes. Have at!

Just wanted to let you know, I went to redeem POP! Horror City but someone has already taken the code.

OFFICIAL IGMC 2017 TAKING PART THREAD (BETTER THAN REVIVER) EXTRAVAGANZA 2,000,000

I feel I should make a game with custom music and fully animated custom art which goes on for about an hour, then slowly degrades in quality. The art becomes crappier, the music becomes one track looping over and over, and eventually the graphics devolve into RTP and stick figures.

But yeah I think I'm gonna' try to make something for this jam. Realistically, I'm not gonna' win the $10,000, but I have a better chance at winning it than not participating at all.

(maybe i'll just remake that imp game, libby, since you got so into it...)

You should, that game was fun. I played the crap out of it, and posted my highest number of completed floors. Libby had to go and beat me to prove a point. Time well invested. I'd like to see more of it, and try to get the highest score on the forums.

Revive the Dead 2: Deader or Alive

Great! Here's what I've got.

Super Girl Squad

Description: This is the actual, legit SGS game I'm working on. The Halloween Board Game, a stand-alone title I made, was a special episode for the SGS series. This is the actual game, which is played in episodes not unlike a TV show. The player, upon reaching their hub, will be able to choose the episodes they'd like to play. So far I have Episode 0 - the tutorial episode - fully completed.

Each episode is its own self-contained story, and designed to be played in any order the player chooses. My goal is to make every episode playable in any order, so if a player gains a few more levels in episode 3, for example, they won't be overpowered in episode 2.

It's a light-hearted (mostly) JRPG that tells multiple stories about these three superheroes.

Here's what I've got done:
* Episode 0 completed.
* Fully custom art (minus some battle animations).
* A battle system that can be expanded on.
* Hub and episode system established so it can be continued indefinitely.

Here's what I'd like to do this month:

* Add at least two more episodes, hopefully up to four so I can stick a fork in it and be happy with what I've had completed. This is the most important and difficult part: I need four short-stories, people!
* Add more character sprites for a larger variety of NPCs.
* Update plug-ins and work on perfecting the battle system that's already in place.
* Find a plug-in that allows me to scale the enemies per episode, and tweak the system to where the player doesn't feel like they're stagnant.
* Add more monsters.
* Add more items, more skills, and more equipment to the game.

Long-term goals (most likely not during this event):
* Re-polish episode 0 some more, changing some of the dialogue and special effects.
* Expand on the tilesets I made to make them more multi-purpose. I've already got a lot of graphics in this project already, I just want to flesh them out even more so I can create almost any kind of content with them.
* Possibly add battle animations.

I'm super busy with a full-time job now, and looking at a second job in the meantime. I won't have a whole lot of free time on my hands to perfect this, but I'm gonna' try to do this when I catch a breather.

Revive the Dead 2: Deader or Alive

Just wanted to double check: Can I revive a game that I never posted online anywhere? I was working on the Super Girl Squad anthologies and I finished one episode, and that was it.

I'm not talking about the SGS: Halloween Horror Game thing, that was a single special "episode". This is the actual game, with an actual completed episode. Never uploaded it, but put in quite a bit of work (all custom art), and I feel I could add a couple more episodes to this anthology before the end of the event. Is that cool? If so, I can post a list of what needs to be done.
