The Screenshot Topic Returns

I'm planning on making it a maze the farther you get in. What do you suggest I add?

Well, anything that won't make the player go "where the fuck am I" or "where the fuck am I supposed to go" and become lost for a good couple of minutes, with no clear landmarks to orientate themselves. It's happened to me in some RM games and it's plain frustrating...

I hope you didn't add random battles to the equation, either.

Other than that, yeah the different tinting gives off the magicky vibe, but it needs a bit more!

@Arandomgamemaker:

That looks very nice, and the cutscene rocks, as well! However, the guard sprite looks a bit bare, and you should try to match the prisoner's sprite to how it looks in the cutscene - the sprite has too much black.

@TDS
Why is the Ocarina of Time called a Flute? At least call it an ocarina!
Fun fact: I've never played LoZ:OoT

Looks like you've never played A Link to the Past, either

BTW This is the playable part of the Overworld for the first Demo I'll have ready for my project.

It features random battles at a medium-high rate, but dirt roads are encounter-free:

I don't think you should use the DS Sprites alongside the RTP-styled ones because they don't mesh well at all.

Other than that, the map is pretty nice. The four flowers in the top bug me, though...

Why do I have a member title.

I'd like to ask a better question, Hesufo.

Why do you have a naked little girl jumping about as an avatar?

Mischievous admins.

Probably.

<.<

I would keep the new one, but remove the middle set of stairs, because making a staircase THAT wide can lead to the "painted onto the wall" impression, whereas two separated 2-tile-wide staircases wouldn't look bad at all.

Why do I have a member title.

Or get 1000 makerscore.

Please elaborate.

[Poll] Judging whether to download a game? What do you look for?

author=LockeZ
Also, page presentation, hype, and several others of these things are more subconscious influences than conscious ones. We're told not to judge a book by its cover and not to pay attention to hype, and we claim we don't, and we try not to, but we do it anyway by accident sometimes.

I intentionally do the opposite of this. In fact, I love playing and giving feedback on obscure, unknown games from little-known users. Most of them are terrible RTP-ridden messes but most are still enjoyable, and they, on average, will value your feedback and take it to heart more often than the creator of a popular game that already has a big influx of feedback or a fanbase (of course this is NOT always the case). So, at least for me, the more perfectible and little-known a game is, the more likely I am to try it out and criticize it, as a way of encouraging those users to improve their games and keep them motivated.

Maybe it is an actual subconscious choice, though, and an ugly one at that - for example, I admit I envy games that look better than my own project, and I rarely play those unless they are extremely well-received or largely popular. I also have a pet peeve against the general over-use of fogs and screen effects, which often happens on said games, so those will most probably irk me, from a visual standpoint.

In the end, I think, I guess I just don't care about graphical prowess in RPG Maker games, and so I'd rather check out the lesser-known ones, even if they are RTP Adventure #14,084. Plus, I'm more of a gameplay-type of person, so I look forward to trying out that aspect, no matter how generic the game may look at first glance.

LouisCyphre: The interface looks tidy and the mini-icons are nice, but I can't comment any further since I have no idea what your project is about!

Anyway, two screenies from me.

1. This is the editor shot of a hidden area from my project's Overworld. It's a simple riverside path with a cave and a hill (the north of the river can't be seen in-game so ignore that).

2. So I had to make a footwear store, but there were no shoes or boots tiles on the tilesets I have (and I doubt there are any available that do have them), so I did some quick work and added some icons into the tileset. The lack of shadows and the notorious difference is striking, but I don't think it looks THAT bad... I can't into spriteart, but I might try if it does seem too weird. :(

Customization of temporary party members' equipment?

I don't understand what's wrong with removing the leaving character's equipment. I'm pretty sure nobody is going to be weirded out by it, since it's obviously a gameplay-oriented decision. The player will be more than happy to get the pieces of equipment back from an unexpected character leaving the party.

Alternatively, you can just remove his accessories (especially if the character in question is only leaving temporarily).
