HEXATONA'S PROFILE

Hexatona

Hey, I'm a software developer who also happens to work with kentona. I enjoy a spectra of video game genres, but I'm mostly attracted to RPGs. Retro and JRPG are the main thing, but I play others too. Otherwise, pretty much the only games I don't enjoy are serious racing games, and serious sport titles.

I enjoy collecting, and playing, games from the NES up until now, but I'm most proud of my SNES and Playstation 2 collections. Big Earthbound fan. I love music, especially VG OSTs, but suck at anything music theory related. (just like how I love RTS games, but suck at them horribly)

I write as a hobby as well, and occasionally consider painting. I try my hand sometimes at programming my own games from scratch, and making rpg maker titles.

Mostly, aside from work and home life, I read, and play video games. My goal in life is to finish as many of the ones I own before I die. Not sure I'll be able to, but I'll try.

I finally get to play Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Jobs System!

I was a few hours into another playthrough of my copy of FFXII, after having just gotten some component cables so I could more properly appreciate the game - when I really started to get upset that I couldn't play the IZJS version. So, I had some extra time tonight and really poured into how I could do so.

I have a terrible computer that can only emulate it at 80% speed at the best of times. I definitely can't see myself being able to play the steam version once it inevitably comes out. (We all know it will, eventually)

I've got two kids now, so I can't really afford any big purchases (or small purchases for that matter), and I am not really a fan of the PS4 as a whole.

I'd tried before to get Mcboot running, but I always seemed to have the wrong equipment. I have a gameshark, but it only lets you load saves from the disc itself and not from a usb...

I didn't have 007 - agent under fire - but I did have MGS 3 - Snake Eater, and after a few missteps, I finally got it to load and install.

And the first thing I ran to do once it worked was burn the IZJS (twice, because I forgot to patch it the first time...) and load it up!

Honestly, IZJS is all I ever wanted mcBoot for. I always have terribad computers, so I could never emulate it. But, I've not only gotten component cables for the PS2, but now I can load it up on the official hardware! So Happy. Just wanted to get out there and say that.

I can't wait to enjoy it the way it was meant to be played.

A War Apart [Advance Wars] TTS Audiobook Complete 15 hours

This fanfiction is for the game Advance Wars Dual Strike, taking place after that conflict.

A War Apart https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=351MPAJg4Ds&index=1&list=PL-vT9uPaqMCm0AkOJ352p_is7C-w_T7vf by Sigcius has now been converted to TTS Audiobook! Just shy of 15 hours!

You can read the original here: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/5616619/1/A-War-Apart

*"Without a common enemy, the Four Great Nations draw new lines of battle against one another. A lieutenant, his cohorts, and the Orange Star COs must face new enemies and old friends, as well as their own fears and doubts."*

I was instantly drawn into this book in like three pages, and I couldn't stop reading the rest. To thank the author for such a good read, I did this.

Please Enjoy.

(PS: MP3's in the last vid, by the way.)

Hard Reset by Eakin (2013) TTS-Audiobook [03:30]

Hey There, I run the channel ARandomAudiobookAppeared, and I've done it again.

Hard Reset by Eakin has now been converted to TTS Audiobook! 3 and a half hours!

You can read the original Here

"Twilight isn't having a very good day. An experimental spell blew up in her face, an army of changelings is attacking Canterlot, and she just died. Yet somehow, it looks like it's going to keep going downhill from here.

Given the chance to correct what's gone wrong, Twilight swears she's going to fix all this even if it kills her. Which it will. Frequently."

For the folks who don't know who I am or what I do - I take fanfiction, and turn them into Text-To-Speech Audiobooks!

Wait! Don't go!

Whew, alright - I wanted to say that I try to make the experience non-terrible. How do I do that? Here's how!

First, the stories are read by Microsoft Zira, their most advanced voice yet.

Second, I fix spelling mistakes

Third, I fix pronunciation of new words so they are spoken properly

Fourth, I add appropriate pauses for sentences, paragraphs, breaks, and in dialogue.

Fifth, and most important, I change the pitch between dialogue and narration so that it's 20x easier to understand when someone is talking.

So.... Yeah. OH! One more thing - I put the MP3s in the description of the last video. I know how annoying it is to download an entire playlist on youtube and convert it to mp3. I gotcha.

Please Enjoy. I got two more great, longer stories lined up after this one.

Let's Play Chess

Okay, let's play a game. Every move must be legal. You can only post if two different people have posted before you.

The Old Wive's Tale of Zoldo - Wheeze of the Wind

Nontendo just announced 'The Old Wive's Tale of Zoldo - Wheeze of the Wind.' Let's talk about all the cool features and locales you saw from the trailers!

Ex-Religion People of RMN - What did you leave, Why did you leave, and how has it affected you?

As for me, I'm an Ex-Christian. Pretty lame, considering some of the more cultist religions out there that make it harder to leave.

For me, it was just a long buildup of cognitive dissonance. I thought I was a good Christian lad. I wasn't fanatical about it. But I was always very interested in science, and it started to bother me how much my peers weren't. For me, aligning science and religion wasn't really an issue.

But, over years, a build up about rationality, questions about hell, idolatry, white-washing, pseudo-science, and a long look at the people around me and what they did versus what they said. I didn't want to stand with these people anymore.

Even with all that, I still didn't really take my leap until I read a book that pretty much picked up every problem I had, and pointed out to me just how irrational that would be, and gave me a far better explanation.

As of now, I hold two beliefs. One, I still believe in a God. But, I also know that the universe in which one does not exist, and the one that I believe could exist are functionally identical.

SO ANYWAY - what did you leave, and why? How hard was it? What did you gain, what did you lose? Share your story here.

WIN SOME // LOSE SOME - What game did you think would suck was actually awesome, and vice versa?

For me, I thought FFXIII would suck, but I ended up loving it. I felt it addressed most of the flaws people had levelled towards modern JRPGS - Confusing maze-like dungeons, Useless Money, Long Repetitive Battles, Pacing & Challenge, and easily getting lost.

Dungeons are laid out simply with a path forward, and a path for challenge and reward. There's no more searching doors trying to figure out which leads to treasure and which leads to the boss. You alwyas have a decision to make. Money is scarce, and you have real decisions to make regarding selling upgrade components to get items you want or need. Battles are very fast paced, and require constant attention and quick action. The game sets limits on how powerful you can be in any certain area, so that you have to solve battles the smart way and not the power way. You always know when you need to think differently to get past an area, not level more. And lastly, every time you boot up the game, it recaps where you are, what you've done, and where you're going. And there's an in-game encyclopedia detailing any term you might have forgotten.

As for Vice Versa... Hmm, that's tough, but I guess I would have to say Unlimited Saga. I know, it's easy to pick on. I had high hopes for it, but they just let everyone down. There's a good, challenging game there for the persistent, but it just not a game that can hold your attention for any lengths of time before you start pining for the rest of your library. Watch imbiggy's LP of all the characters, and be glad you missed it all.

Text-To-Speech Audiobooks of Fanfiction

You know, I've been doing this for like a year now and I haven't thought to post this here. Man, what the heck.

Anyway, long story short, I started turning Fanfictions into Audiobooks because I had a lot of time washing dishes, biking, and cleaning, and not a lot of time I'd set aside to sit down and read. So, like all human endeavor, this is all due to laziness.

What makes my Audiobooks special? Well, for one, they're not terrible! No seriously, like UGH.

So, thankfully, voices have come a good way since then. I take a bit beyond the basic process.

1. General Spelling and Cleanup - I fix spelling mistakes (which sound horrible) and other little niggling issues.

2. Pronunciation - I go through and listen to all the new words, and make the engine pronounce them properly, or as close as I can get it.

3. Pauses - I add pauses to make comprehension easier. Between sentences, paragraphs, and within dialogue where appropriate.

4. Dialogue - The best feature is that I make Dialogue spoken at a different pitch, and thus it's like 20x easier to know when people are talking, and when they aren't.

I've got... 9 Audiobooks so far + 2 short stories.

They are:

The Legend of Sunset Shimmer: Ocarina of Time

The Legend of Zelda: Sacred Reliquary

Final Fantasy VI: The Novel

Final Fantasy XII: One Moment of Greatness

Hella Funtime Adventure Friends: The Novel

My Little Pony: Dueling is Magic

The Hitchiker's Guide to Ivalice

The Fall of Night

Final Fantasy Tactics: Purity Amidst Madness

If I were going to recommend anything to listen to out of that list, I would suggest Hella Funtime Adventure Friends, Sacred Reliquary, One Moment of Greatness, and Purity Amidst Madness in that order.

Oh, in the last video, I've got a link to the MP3s. I'm just a nice guy.

Gamer Parents: Home Edition

Well, some of us are getting along in years. This has probably happened to you. Why not vent, and tell the world your amusing tale?

EDIT: Not amusing really, but my daughter waking up crying always seems to be coinciding with a particularly heated match of League of Legends. And of course it's one of those times she won't go back to sleep easily!

Hella Funtime Adventure Friends

Hey so, read the image.

The basic idea here is to pick who you would take, and explain why!

Have some fun with it.

(also, I found another one that includes cactus juan and frostbite, but it's hard to read)

EDIT: Oh, I suppose I should start with a first pass of who I would take.

Boleslava & Mildred

Boleslava will keep me AND Mildred in good spirits. Hopefully, Boleslava will improve Mildred's mood enough to actually help me out.

Also, I would very quickly need to fashion some kind of tethered harness to secure Boleslava to me.
