Is it just me, or I lately just saw a lot of devs putting their gamepages in private when their screenshots don't turn out good?

Eh, that's much better than devs hiding their gamepages when they get a low-scoring review (-_-)
I can't say I've even noticed. What do you mean by screenshots not turning out good? Is that like, people give criticism on them?
That is if it is a game in development, which is part of the reason I don't really dig doing demo reviews.
Even if it won't "recover" publically in how it's received, it's still up there and taking it down will .. just destroy any chance anyone can do anything with it. At worst you get zero activity which comes down to the same thing. But that's me.

It's a personal decision to be sure. I don't see how a "bad" game is a bad thing, when it's a constant journey of work and improvement, but if people think that's in their best interest, then have at it.

Haven't really noticed it either, but I haven't been keeping an eye out like I used to.

Tbh, if the first review your game gets is a low-scoring one, and the game doesn't already have a lot of momentum behind it, you might as well scrap it because games in this community rarely come back from that. This is especially true because a lot of reviewers won't update reviews even after the game itself has been updated to fix the problems that they raised. It's actually a perfectly understandable thing for someone to do; you've just gotta hope that they take any legitimate criticism forward into future projects.
Yep. Or worse still, when your first review is someone writing a review of an old demo and then leaves the site so there's no chance of it ever being updated. It would be nice if review score didn't appear on your game until it had a certain threshold of reviews.

Of course, it would be nicer if there was no review score at all.

Well, I saw Liberty giving feedback to them, but the gamepages get hidden after that...

lol sai i'm not sure if your overbearing ego/passive-aggressive attitude is cute or just sad.

i'm leaning towards sad, though.

Damn, you guys are harsh towards Sailerius lmao

I've only hidden gamepages I know i'll never finish because of new projects. What's the point of having them around if people do post it almost doesn't matter. I have a game that a prequel to my big hit but I lost all the work I did for the fourth episode and after that I moved on to VX ACE from 2k3 so it's sad for me but ultimately I don't want people playing a game that is almost finished but never will be.

I've seen gamepages that go hidden for major reworking. So that's legitimate

Given that I've never posted a demo here, it should be pretty obvious that I wasn't talking about any of my works, but please don't let that get in the way of yet another opportunity to derail a thread to personally harass me.

That got me thinking. Sailerius, why haven't you posted Ars Harmonia on this site?

Nothing specifically, why? I've been complaining about how beginner-unfriendly the review system is for years. I don't know why it's only worthy of ridicule now.

Because it's not far enough along to have screenshots ready yet. I'll let you know when it's ready, though! You can see how the art's coming along here, though.
Well, it's always possible to give critique without personally attacking the developer. I'm not thinking about anyone in particular, I just know that this has always been a common theme in the RM community.
Oh! I, uh, I've taken to giving feedback to images when a game doesn't make the cut, yet, as well as recommending them to other places like the screenshot thread and the like. Usually it's a game that has yet to pass muster, so it's not accepted to the site (and thus is hidden), but I leave some tips for their mapping so that they can work on the images in question and get them up to our standards.

Sorry for the confusion!

And yet demos are the ones that truly need reviews in order to get better. Most of the people who do reviews often choose to not give demos a rating unless they're really long and well-polished.

(I'm one of those who will rate your shit - just PM me when you get a better version up and I'll replay/re-rate.)

While this is true, those who have already brought up the flaw of giving demos star-ratings have made valid points in that it's discouraging for developers, and not really in the sense that they're too thin-skinned to move on from critique, but more in that a low-star rating will turn away their audience, so even if they make it good later, there is a good chance that people won't acknowledge the game's existence because of that star rating for an old version you can't remove as a dev. It's like a dunce cap placed on a kid in school, it shows everyone around you that your bad regardless of your in-depth qualities and in turn will be avoided.

So, I actually kind of agree with them here. Would it at least be possible to program the site to automatically disallow star ratings for games that are not marked "complete"? That would at least be a step that would satisfy both ends of this argument.
Some developers like the star ratings, though. But hey, it probably could be done. Just prepare yourselves for the MS damage you'd be taking since a huge amount comes from the score of a game and not the game itself - the higher your game is scored (and the more reviews it has, I believe), the more MS that game gives.

We were instead looking at removing stars from reviews older than x amount of time, or tying them to builds and downgrading their 'weight' depending how old they were, so that if someone put a demo up and it got 2 stars, then put up a full game and it got 4 stars, the reviews tied to the full version would be the ones that counted.

We don't want to get rid of starred demos altogether because it gives people incentive to get better, but we do want to lessen the 'damage' it causes to a score when it's outdated.

Ooooohh! Now I get it! XD

Thanks for the clarification, Liberty! :)
Yeah, I keep meaning to ask anky if there's a way to remove notices for images off the live feed if the game hasn't been accepted to the site yet. I'll get on that now that I know it's causing confusion. ^.^;
