FF Class/Job based PnP RPG

Hey guys! I'm really surprised I haven't brought this up before, but I'm a member of an active community of individuals who play a game known as FFRPG SeeD.

http://storagebin.wikispaces.com/SeeD

This is the storage site of the game, and it's been well fleshed out over the last decade+. Game is run without the need of a grid (as battles are fought using a turn based ATB system akin to older RPG's), we use a diceroller program inside of an IRC webchat. The game is often heavy roleplay oriented, for those that love staying in character during these types of games. The IRC info is listed here: I personally just use the browser based IRC site Mibbit to access it.

Server: Esper.net

I'm surprised I never saw this opportunity to try to bridge my two active online communities~ I talk to them about RMN all the time, never thought about mentioning FFRPG here!

If anyone would like to discuss how this RPG plays, you're more than welcome to ask me or anyone in the IRC channel! I'll include a link to one of the sessions I've run for those interested in seeing how a session plays out.

-Pathfinder Adventure Path (Legacy of Fire) Gone SeeD!-
I took the published adventure path of Legacy of Fire by Paizo and converted it to a SeeD campaign, this link is to the first session!

[RMVX ACE] Use face graphic instead of sprites for save/load?

Hey guys, I'm trying to find a simple script that changes it to where you see the actors faces instead of their sprites when you load a saved game. Is it possible?

Sword Coast Legends!

Is there anyone else out there with this game? I'll admit I'm a Pathfinder player, but this game is amazing. I immediately became addicted to the DM Mode and have already put 12 hours into a now finished module.

To build a "Commercial Game Team" vs a "Free Game Team"

So with the end of my semester here, I have about a month worth of free time and I was considering the concept behind what it takes to build a Free Game team.

I'm sure a lot of us have had this problem before. You want to design a game with custom graphics, music, and sounds - but find yourself at the wrong end of the artistic stick. A lot of us have no skill in developing artwork or music for games, so we're forced to default on the skills of others in order to truly build something unique. In the case of the commercial game, it's entirely possible that you and the people working with you will make back the money you put into the game.

But what of the individuals who want to release a game that's free to the public with no profit of their own? This is where the difficulty of being a game designer with no inherent artistic or musical talent rears its ugly head. I understand that artists and musicians work hard on their creations and deserve to be credited for their work, but that all comes at the cost of the individual making the game and, to that end, simply costs them money that they will never be able to be credited for for their free release.

Now there's the obvious solution. "Simply get together with your artistic friends and build a game together!" This is a perfectly viable option, and the one I see most individuals shoot for. However, some of us aren't particularly good at making friends, and even so a lot of artists and musicians have a lot on their plate already. Another conundrum seems to be the minority that is artists and musicians; Does it make you a terrible person to try to make friends with someone in order to get the possible access to their skills you want to make a great game together? It seems like the skill of creating games via RPGMaker or whatever engine you want is exceedingly easier to master than being a great artist or musician, so the majority of them already have this skill at their disposal and haven't the need for an extra hand to utilize the program necessary to make the game with.

I know it doesn't seem like there's a lot of options other than to suck it up and fork out the dough to hire skilled artists and musicians, even for a free game, but I just felt like spreading this to you all as one of those worried individuals who doesn't want to spend the rest of his years using ripped resources in a poorly executed manner. (I'm not the greatest mapper out there) I come for advice or suggestions more than anything else!

[RM2K3] [Tsukuru] Change the run away animation?

Hey guys, I've come across another oddity with the RT2k3 engine that I was wondering if anyone had a solution. In my Final Fantasy:SW title, the run away animation has the characters dash off the screen to the right. Is there any way to change it to where they merely turn around or even better, turn around one after another ala FF1? (It would be even better if I could have text saying 'Close call....' at the top, but lets shoot for animation first!)

Heroes of the Storm players?!

Any of us RMN folk also play Heroes of the Storm?

I figure starting a post with our battle tags would be in order!

Mine is: illumina3#1292

[RM2K3] How to "script"?

So I've hit one minor setback in my game. ...Well, I wouldn't necessarily call it a 'setback' but regardless, is there a way to redirect the menu key to a common event in RM2k3? I know it could be done by messing with the script in VX Ace, but it doesn't seem like that option exists in 2k3. (Tsukuru, btw)

[RMVX ACE] [RMXP] Which engine for NES rips?

So, I've decided I wanted to make a prequel type RPG for the classic Final Fantasy 1 game for NES. Now while I'm not having any sort of problem transitioning the graphics over to CBS, what I -am- having issues with is the field graphics while using VX Ace.

For example, one of my biggest irks is the character sprite graphics for overworld travel. When I directly rip FF1 character sprites for this purpose, they are entirely too small for the world map - and if I enlarge them, the image is horribly blurry and looks terrible. I don't have a fancy art program, but I think enlarging a pixelated NES sprite will turn in bad regardless.. Of course, I could be wrong.

My other problem lies with the overworld map graphics in VX Ace. This mostly because it is brutally difficult to rip NES map set graphics for VX Ace due to the complexity of mapping sets.

So here's a pair of questions then - I received RPGMaker XP through my bundle last year, would the graphics from ripping small NES sprites and maps fit better in that program than VX Ace? Or is there an easier way to make this graphical conversion to VX Ace without hours of time working in a graphics editor?

This graphics problem combined with the complete and utter lack of FF1 sound rips anywhere on the internet is extremely frustrating.
