STATUS

If you made an online game where you could be a lord or a serf, there would be lords with serfs.

If I write the same thing on the paper, the same thing is on the paper.

You are missing the "or" part of this status?
IF there is a beach area, will there be surfing lords and serf?

What if the moon was your car and Jupiter was your hairbrush?

And yes, Alichains there will be aplenty!
I took this to mean that if you made a game where one group lorded it over another, there would be people who would willingly play the group that are in the lower class, and how that's an interesting thought.

Of course, we're talking games here, so it would depend a lot about the preconceptions that possible players might have and how the gameplay is explained to them. So, say as a Lord you have to do a more simulation-type game, but a serf would be more adventure-based, with the chance of raising your reknown and growing to become -anything- from that base character (you could RP a child that grows up to become whatever you want within a certain social sphere - start out as a serf, get some part time work at a bakery, become a baker. Start out as a serf, train to become a squire, become a soldier in the army (dependant on your learning and skills) or a knight of the realm).

I could see more people in that case aiming for the more 'fun' option.

Where-as, if the idea was instead that Lords got to do basically whatever they want to others with no repurcussions and serfs had to obey orders and just do boring tasks (go round up the chickens, clean out the stables, feed and water the cows, harvest the corn - every day)... well, I could see people wanting to be Lords more often.

There might still be some who chose the serfdom because they:
- have a thing for RP
- like to be dominated
- enjoy those kinds of tasks and find it zen-like to do the same thing over and over
- other reasons apply

exactly, Liberty. There are always two types of people!
only two?

e: alternatively, is this some kind of weird argument that only certain people have a will to power? because that's not great territory

What got me thinking about this actually is the game from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia which is called Techpocalyse I believe.
but it also goes for a lot of browser based games where one person gets stronger or wealthier when more people visit his/her page or whatever.

The thought kinda became how there will always be leaders and followers even when given the choice.
