Does anyone still like games with just the standard RTP?

If they grab me quickly with either good character writing, good plot, or good gameplay, yes.

Yes.

YES! +3

2018's Dirge of Doningoth (by SideWinder) had a very cool Seasonal Dungeon, entirely made in RTP.

Here's a save file that jumps you straight to the Seasonal Dungeon in Dirge of Doningoth.

(Just enter the cave and talk to the Elf girl)
- But yeah, it's definitely worth checking out, if you're interested in how to create a captivating
game, even if you're still using RTP.

Definitely take a look!

Of course, we like it! You know, you can only see the same thing so many times before you get bored of it. That's all that's going on.

From time to time. Not a 25 hours long epic, tho
I mean, I've seen a LOT of RTP in my day, and I still never get over a well-mapped piece of RTP ass...ets. ;p

It's when I open a project and see a screen full of green RTP grass with Town1.ogg playing at 100% that I wonder what evil I did in my life to deserve this, but it'd be the same as if I opened a project with a sea of green CT grass and 100% Pokemon theme, so...

Stand back. Artist at work. I paint with enthusiasm if not with talent.

I'll never not love rtp games. Even if bad, if they have heart, they'll probably be good for me. Long games are a bit hard to complete though. Visuals are one thing, but the RTP soundtrack of some engines are... I've heard them too many times.

Is this a personal attack on kentona?
In my experience, yeah. If you're using it well, it should get some attention. RTP is pretty nostalgic for a lot of folks.

Though obviously it depends on the game. I wouldn't really recommend making a horror game with stock VX Ace assets (unless you were trying to do something ironic, like Don't Hug Me, I'm Scared, or The Terrible Secret of Animal Crossing).

Ooooh, a haunted RTP project game that is actively messing with its maker would be such a cool idea XDXD
I actually like long projects in RTP too. Though I tend to stay away from them by and large (I'd love to sink my teeth into one that has lots of areas to explore tho.. like, by yourself, not forced by story).
Yes.

Any game (RTP or not) needs decent mapping, story, gameplay and must shine in one of these fields. Humor or novelty can also be the shining element of a game.
Yes! But admittedly I'm drawn to the shorter ones. Unless there's some really good hook to it, 'cause I don't think I can sit through RTP with completely "played straight" writing for more than an hour or two.
