I definitely think that your sprites have a much richer palette than the tiles you're using. Perhaps recolor the tiles to make them as rich as the sprites?

Regardless, I'm really digging the new look, and I totally get where you're going with it (due in part to us discussing things, but eh, details. XD) but I do agree with the assessment about the extreme brightness. XD
