It seems that you just bought a new farm. Congratulations! It’s located right next to a town whose people fled from a group of bandits.

The Farming One Review

A year and a half later and surprisingly we are still getting reviews! And to think back in the day we were worried if submitting this here would be worth it. :P

Thanks very much for your review. Amusingly enough, only a few months ago when I went to revisit the project I noticed the Harvestium Pickaxe glitch and went "O-Oh". Although we spent a lot of time fixing stuff like typos and such yet we still left something as major as that slip. Oh well, what is done is done. :P

Thanks again!

Thank you a lot for your review! The fact that the contest had to fit in one hour was definitely what helped shape up the mechanics and make sure the game had a fast face, and we are glad we went with that pace.

We are glad you enjoyed our game! Thanks again!

We are considering it. Deciding whether or not we're going to work on it will take like 2 months of discussions and 5 different PDFs.

Now really, we seeing some stuff and deciding what's the best. We are deciding if we keep using the same RPG Maker engine or if we start considering using other tools, as well as deciding how we are going to manage assets. One thing is for sure, the core mechanics would stay the same. :P

Thanks for your review! It's quite flattering to see a game made by us receiving a 5-star review.

At some point in development, we considered adding a day and night system, as well as a season cycle. However, we had a bit of fear that it would break the flow of gameplay by forcing the player to make something at a specific time. We did test with it in a prototype for an expansion we made after, but we really didn't end up doing much with it.

Thanks again!

Well, wasn't this a fun conversation. :P

Thank you for your review! It's been a while since we had one, so this one caught us quite by surprise. As usual, I will try to explain some of the design choices we made, but always taking in mind what you felt wasn't so good about the game and taking that in consideration for the future.

In the case of your review, it was the random elements that made you feel a bit bothered. Well, I will be honest with you and say that myself didn't feel comfortable with them as well during development, but in the end, we had to go with it since, as opposed to the crops which had a timer, having it in things such as ores and trees didn't make much sense, and since we didn't really have much time to flesh stuff out, we ended up having to go with that. It's something that we will definitely try to avoid in the future.

We are glad that you enjoyed the game! Thank you for your review again!

Holy Crap! Since when did we become a buzzing game all of a sudden?! Curious for this to happen one year after we made it, but I guess that stuff in the internet goes out of Buzz all of a sudden.

First off, I have to thank for all your support. We've been a bit disconnected from the whole RPG Maker community for a while, although we did check our Notices periodically, so it was a surprise to come in and see 20 all of a sudden.

I believe I should answer some of the questions as well:

  • @Korokonee - Playthroughs of the game are fine. I don't get why some developers would be against this, but the more playing and watching the game, the merrier isn't it? :P
  • @ILoveMeSomeGame - Sadly, somewhat parted ways last year. Not as in stopped contacting each other, I still annoy him everyday. We just went in different directions. He started doing commissions with his art recently meanwhile I started learning more stuff related to Game Development (Unity, 3DS Max, ...). We did think about it in the following weeks after the contest, but never really picked it up.
  • @Bohoy - That's not really a bug. Maybe we weren't so clear at the time, but you are supposed to check in the mailbox. :P

I will be reading the reviews now. Thanks again!

I absolutely LOVED this game!! Just one question, though. Will the mysterious "bottle being" ever be revealed? I married it, so it would be nice to know who it is :o Oh, and is there an actual ending after hiring the guards/using the psychologist? Or does it go on forever after that?
Good job! I really enjoyed it :3

I think knowing who you are actually marring in the bottle ending would kind of kill the mystery of it wouldn't it? :P
And there is no set ending after completing one of the good endings, it really just goes forever.

A few months after the contest we considered making a completed edition of the game with no time limit but we haven't really discussed much of it. We explained a bit about that and what we plan to do in an interview that should be posted soon on RPW Forums, although I still feel some of my answers were biased due to how thoughtful I was about a sequel at that time. :P

the text is going past the margins of the text boxes for me; I NEED HALP!

Did you install the "LiberationSans" from the Fonts folder? It should load automatically, but in some cases it doesn't. There might be some errors where it goes past even with the font installed, which were overlooks by our part.

The Farming One Review

Thanks for your review! It's definitely the most fleshed out and detailed review that we've seen so far of our project!

As I said in another review, I have to agree that RTP sprites might look a bit out of place and a bit discolored when compared to Celianna's Rural Tiles. In fact, when we started working with RTP sprites, one of the things that we noticed right from the get go was that the tilesets were way to bright, and despite not looking like it at first, we actually made some of the brighter components of it a bit darker in order for it to be less painlessly to the eyes and too see if it fit better with the sprites. Sadly, it seems like it still isn't doesn't fit that much, and I will make sure that we double check that if we work on it again. After a while after we posted the Development Thread on RPGMakerWeb, Celianna told us that there was a sprite generator that fit the Rural Tiles style, but since it was exclusive to the Web Store (and we got the Steam Version of Humble Bundle) we weren't able to get our hands on it.

About the fishing, believe it or not, it was even slower on the beginning and we made it a bit faster right a few days before we submitted the project, still, it seems like it still is a bit slow for some people, so in case we pick up the project we will definitely try to try something different with the fishing.

Since our main language for both isn't English we are acknowledged that there are some errors that pass through us, even after several people pointed us some mistakes that were present in the early builds. We will definitely recheck them more times from now on.

The marriage and dating process is apparently one of the points were most people were disappointed with. We did think of including some extra events such as dates but in the doubt that it would break the fast pacing of the game we decided to let them off. If you have any more specific suggestions of how we could improve the dating system, we are totally open to suggestions!

Finally, but not least important, the lack of things to do after you got everything is something people have been pointing out. We did think of adding an Endless Mode after you had gotten one of the good endings, but since the idea came late into the development we didn't have time to add it in, but we will definitely try to add something of those likes if we pick the project again.

Thanks again for your review and for everything we pointed out! We will definitely try to make a use of everything you said in order to improve not only this project but also everything that we end up making exterior to this project.

Thanks again!
