Onix Rift video commentary 02 on enemy events.

By the way kaempfer, in moonsong you absolutely NAILEd the atmosphere you were going for. The old inhabited country side riddled with ruins. I feel like Everytime I attempt something similar I get a cluttered look. I'm truly envious of some of those maps my man. Nothing clashes and every map, 100x100 or 10x10, all looked like they got the same attention. That struck me most so far that I've played.
I appreciate that! One big thing I'm always careful about is making sure graphics, no matter their source, match up and work together. I've even had people assume my from-scratch stuff was just another rip, which is high praise. Moonsong was in development for a long time, so a lot of those maps had a lot of revision. Some of the earlier maps were 100x100 maps pared down to 50x50 or even smaller, and so I got to pick and choose the best stuff.
Hmm, I'll have to look into this 2009 business. I know that when I opened up Onix Rift a bunch of the vines in the cliffs just didn't show up in the default tileset (one direction of vines did, but the other direction didn't), which is what made me think it could use larger sizes of tilesets. It's a shame there isn't a version that combines all the best parts of the various releases of RM2k3, since they all have something they do better.

Damn, dude. You've mastered RM2k3 more thoroughly in a few months than I have in a few years. I struggle with simple puzzle eventing sometimes!
I've noticed that some of your maps contain more tiles than my copy of RM2k3 supports, is that a feature of 2k9?
I've been playing around with resizing graphics from RMXP and RMVX recently, there are some on display in Moonsong. They take some fixing up to get working, but overall it's not too much work and the outcome can look really solid.
Seeing some of your process makes me want to point out one thing about Paint.net, which is that you can't paste with the background colour transparent. That's the only thing I miss from MS Paint. In paint.net you have to use layers. It's way more flexible, but honestly I preferred how fast it was in MS Paint. But that's the only thing I miss, haha

STREAMed Hams?...(?) ???
This technical masterpiece deserves all the praise it gets, truly. It would have been so much more straightforward (I guess is the word?) to just make this a video, but making it a fully playable game just elevates it to another level altogether. It also gives us the rare moments like a streamer being totally caught off guard by a surprise option actually having a major impact on the outcome! Just awesome.
I'll have to go through all of RPG Maker Cola, I had no idea some of it was on Soundcloud! This makes things so much easier...for three episodes, at least.
Thanks for the shout-out!!!

author=LockeZExcept all the graphics and sound and story and general area design are all carried over, which makes the re-implementation of those things go extremely quickly, and the design might stay more or less exactly the same. I'm not pro-engine switching, but it's hardly the same thing as abandoning a project.
Switching the engine is the same thing as abandoning the project

author=nemojbatkastleThis image was too big to hotlink!
where the buildings use the sprites I ripped from Zoda's Revenge and work for rustic areas, but not larger cities
Ditto this one! ???
I've been fiddling around with from-scratch NES graphics (the best I can do at the moment is redrawing existing tiles, but from a legal stand point that counts *COUGHS LOUDLY*) and I found these in my search for things to, uh, be inspired by. Wouldn't something like this work for big cities? These are both from Zoda's Revenge. I wish someone would rip the FF7 demake's overhaul that romhacking did.
author=DyhaltoThis project used to be in MV, didn't it? I seem to remember discussions about tile scaling up to the stupid 48x48 resolution.
MZ?
Bummer. I was really looking forward to another 2k3 project ringing the bell of Completion. Speaking of which, I haven't forgotten Moonsong, Kaempfer. I'm just waiting a perfect time to really settle in and enjoy >:)
