[RMMZ] Want to use this battle system

author=Hazelsoft
I am currently in the process of designing a fan-made Lunar game, in this video they are using the ATB Plugin. I would like to have the battle system like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioDd4qFdObY&ab_channel=LecodeWorks
I want to have my Lunar fan game similar to the original games as possible.
Please is there anyone who can help me with the ATB plugin?
The plugin you showed was a plugin in development by Lecode Works, which was being actively worked on 6 years ago. I have no idea where he is now, but if you could get in contact with him he might be able to give you the code to that plugin so someone else can finish it. And heck, maybe that plugin is already finished by now! That WIP build video was posted 6+ years ago after all.

Edit: Just did some heavy research and it seems like this LeCode guy only has one plugin under his belt, an ultra-complex TBS plugin. The TBS plugin may or may not be an evolution of his Lunar Battle System, as he posted the Lunar Stuff only in the early stages of his TBS plugin before the latter really took off. However, due to him going into college in a top university perusing computer science and his new 9 to 5 job at a big tech company, he doesn't have much time to work on RPG Maker. Last time he posted was January 2020, so it's possible he might not even be alive due to the pandemic and stuff. That would be very tragic. If you can, try to reach out to him to see if he's alive and maybe get him to send you the current version of the Lunar plugin, no matter how unfinished it may be.

Edit 2: TLDR you will probably need to make the plugin yourself of find someone to commission to do it. Fiverr is really good for commissions for a decent price. I have absolutely no knowledge of Lunar other than being interesting in playing them (which I would if they weren't so dang expensive and the English versions not butchered by Working Designs) and knowing about how unplayably awful the DS game was making it arguably the worst RPG of all time. So I can't really suggest anything or help you with making the plugin you need. Sorry.

[Wolf RPG Editor] any way to heal a hero upon leveling up?

I know in RPG Maker MV and MZ there are multiple ways to accomplish this.

In MV there are two plugins for this, Fallen Angel Olivia's "Anti Stress" plugin which has the feature easily built in and HimeWork's "level up events" plugin where you can set up one or multiple comment events to play when you level up. In MZ visustella's core engine comes packaged with Fallen Angel Olivia's anti stress features and you can use Fossil MZ to use MV plugins in MZ as well. Tho the original files/upload for fossil have been lost. You can find a repost of the newest version on RPG Maker Web if you have an account there, as you can't download stuff from that site without one.

But in whatever "Wolf RPG Editor" is? I have no idea and I don't think that's possible especially if there's no scripting capabilities.

The DeviantArt Purge (Over 100k pieces of art lost forever)

So, you all probably don't know this, but the site DeviantArt is currently in the process of a massive site-wide purge. This is akin to the great Tumblr purge and exodus of 2018, only on a slightly smaller scale. Basiclly, overnight without any warning, multiple major artists in the genderbend art scene got their entire accounts nuked and permabanned. The reason was according to DA for "posting content sexualizing minors." They did nothing of the sort. What they ACTUALLY did was post (mostly) SFW or heavily censored NSFW images of transformations involving FICTIONAL underage characters. And no, I do not mean lolis. I mean fully physically developed anime characters that just so happened to be canonically underage. Like, in the 15-17 age range. This most infamously includes the majority of human characters from Pokemon and My Hero Academia, who have been the main target of the mass purge. The purge is growing in size every day and I'm not completely up to date of how many users have been permabanned, but the list is growing and it's growing fast. The art isn't even NSFW (mostly) and the characters aren't lolis/shotas, just people transforming into dawn, misty, or serena from Pokemon or a genderbend comic about Deku from MHA turning into a girl. Once again these characters ARE NOT REAL and DO NOT LOOK LIKE KIDS, yet DA is going after transformation artists and SPECIFICLY transformation artists and using these characters as a crutch to mass ban that genre of art from their website. There is also the fact that the majority of these artists are also trans (mostly trans girls) so this may be a purge based on transphobia and other forms of hate.

If you didn't know already, I use DeviantArt frequently (my @ is/was KrimsonKattTG) and post a decent amount of genderbend art on there. I have around 800 followers on there. The problem comes that I have posted multiple genderbent arts of Pokemon characters and other "underage" characters according to DA despite them being not real and looking and acting like adults in canon, and are only underage because anime is wildly unrealistic age-wise. DA also does not accept excuses of "aging up characters." If they are under 18 in canon then they are banned. The worst part is that a lot of these post I made involving "underage" characters (which were SFW mind you, no nudity or sex) were commissions. People paid me to make and post them and now I'm being banned for them. Once again, THE ARTWORKS WERE COMPLETELY SFW. The only ones I did that was even mildly NSFW was the ones I did for Pyra and she is over 500 years old. (mental age is unknown, though she certainly isn't a child)

In short, I need to find a new website to post my art, but I don't have many options. Twitter is a hellsite run by billionaire man baby Elon Musk and is currently in the process of imploding, and Threads is too early in it's life to be reliable. There's no way in Tartarus I'm posting on a furry art site like FurAffinity or Weasyl, as I'm not a furry and neither is my art. Newgrounds is probably the best option, but that site doesn't have a mobile site or app and is very laggy and unpolished, heavily limited reach since the majority of people only use social media on their phones now. Tumblr is a no-go since I'm not sure what the status of their infamous NSFW ban is, and Insagram and Facebook are also off the table because my family is on there, uses it religiously, and all follow me. I don't know Japanese so sites like Pixiv or ArtStation are also out of the question. And there's no way I'm posting on a porn site like R34 because once again, 99% of my art is SFW. I have no idea what to do. I need to leave DA ASAP and repost my art somewhere else, but I have nowhere to go. I obviously can't post it here since this place is for free indie games, not for art of a mildly erotic manner. Anyone who has any experience with art, where should I go to post my stuff? Any site I should know about so I could switch? Thanks.

An ODE to Final Fantasy

author=AtiyaTheSeeker
While I partly feel this may fit better into the Creative Corner, everything else thinks this is great. I shall provide a better reply when I have time to do more than skim but for discussion, here's a first impression.

Personally, the games I want to make and the art I do are living tributes to everything I think is cool. It's often not just a specific franchise, but that's also not to say that Dragon Quest doesn't inspire me like Final Fantasy does for you. But like my main man Mark Twain once said, all new ideas are existing ones that get jumbled up into something new in creators' brains. So I am happy that classic FF is something that's inspired you, wanting to create something with personal meaning and ambition for a loved one.

I'm also the sort of person who can see games as art, especially indies making their own games. From a skim, I can agree with you that the series hasn't quite been the same since FF9. Much as I feel FF10 has its worldbuilding merits and FF14 feels like an MMO celebration of the series, I think FF9 was the last triumphant hurrah of what it means to be a Final Fantasy game.

Also damn, you've got a phoenix tattoo? I've wanted one for years, and I'm to the point where I feel I've earned it. Just need to save up. :p

Don't diss my man FFXII like that. While not exactly "feeling like final fantasy," FFXII is an amazing game with incredible gameplay, intricate strategy, great mechanics, and an interesting if heavily undeveloped story. The amount of freedom of exploration you have in that game is unparalleled, especially to all the other post-PS1 FF titles. The license board system is miles better than the sphere grid of FFX and some of the secrets and hidden quests in FFXII are insane.

Though I don't recommend the PS2 version, x2 speed in the HD versions alone turn the game from a 6/10 to a 10/10 easily. The game was always meant to be played at a higher speed IMO, ideally 1.7x speed since the base 1.0x speed is far too slow while x2 is a bit too fast. But 2.0x speed works fine and makes the game a million more times enjoyable with no longer having to deal with the mollases pace of the PS2 release.

In my mind, Final Fantasy only really fell off with the switch to HD with FFXIII. Before that Final Fantasy was focused on classic turn based gameplay and wide open worlds, minus some deviations like FFXII's real time strategic combat and custom AI/gambit systems. Then FXIII came and the focus went from the series roots to flashy action and good graphics rather than making fun, engaging RPGs. Now Final Fantasy has completely lost it's identity, and has been in a massive rut since Spirits Within bombed and killed the franchise. That was over 20 years ago, and Square still hasn't recovered.

How to generate bigger/unzoomed character profile picture

The face images made with the RPG Maker MV/MZ generator are meant to go with the "show text" command where you can also show a face go along with the text. These "facesets" are in a 4x2 grid and feature 8 faces each. Each face image is 144x144 pixels, while the full faceset image is 576x288 pixels. The generator generates one face image at a time. All face images generated using the character generator are cut off, and the actual assets used in the character generator found in the source files for the engine are cut off as well.

Meanwhile, the character images in the "pictures" folder are bust images meant to be used with the "show pictures" event as an alternative to faces. These images are referred to as "busts" in the community. Busts cannot be created with the character generator in either MV or MZ, so you will have to create them yourself or commission someone to make them for you. I strongly recommend against the use of busts for for your first game, stick with the faces.

If you want to "zoom out" the faces so that they aren't cut off, you will either need to draw completely original facesets using a separate program such as Aesprite, Gimp, or Clip Studio Paint or to copy the generator assets to a personal folder, edit them to have them not be cut off and have both the lighting and the base images combined, and then place the face assets manually using photoshop, gimp, or any other layer-based image editing software to create your own custom assets. I also recommend against doing this as well. Just stick with the default faces for now. They serve their purpose fine and are great for making simple OCs for your game instead of using the generic default actors, especially the MV generator. (the MZ RTP, or default assets, are really bad IMO)

Most Overrated OSTs?

OSTs for games that are widely claimed to be amazing, but in your opinion either don't live up to the hype or just suck. Here is mine.

The World Ends With You + Neo. This is one of my hottest gaming takes. Personally, I think the OST is TWEWY and it's sequel are god awful, literal ear poison. I've heard the OST for those games is an "acquired taste" but I thought they meant something like Persona's engrish, not ear-poison lyrical and rythumanic nonsense. I can't really describe what I hate so much about TWEWY's OST, it's just loud, random, and obnoxious. Here are some examples of what I mean:

It's completely off tune! I hate it!

This one isn't as bad, but something is just... off. Like, the song is slightly off beat or just not "complete." Maybe there is some sort of story significance to the music being so bad that makes the entire thing genius, but based on how much people "love the OST" I'm guessing not. Like, if I could hire some guy to rap (Lotus Juice?) and my brother to do mixing I could probably remaster this song to sound actually good with minimum effort.

As for other OSTs I find to be really overrated, Omori and Pizza Tower come to mind. Their OSTs are just beyond mid with not truly standout songs. Like, they're fine, but nowhere near the top of the list for best OSTs in indie games. I also think most Zelda OSTs are really overrated with really only 1-3 really good songs per game while the rest are either reused songs or just really mid. Gerudo Valley and all the final battle themes in OoT, Stone Tower Temple and Final Hours from MM, Ballad of the Goddess from SS, etc are all incredible top tier songs don't get me wrong, but when they're surrounded by so many just "passable" songs I can't say with good faith that Zelda as a series has one of the best OSTs in gaming. That honor would have to go to Sonic, Persona, Kingdom Hearts, Octopath, Bravely Default, Megaman, Xenoblade and Castlevania. Those series absolutely DEMOLISH anything from Zelda, Mario, or Kirby in a heartbeat.

The music in Fire Emblem games is the most mixed thing imaginable. In the Kaga Era the only game with good songs were Genealogy and Mystery of the Emblem, with the rest of the games having OSTs being mid to bad. Then we had a long era with heavily mediocre OSTs with the only standout songs from that era being from The Sacred Stones which was heavily limited by the GBA's bad soundchip and even then weren't amazing, the CD version of "Distant Utopia" from Binding Blade, and one of the map themes from Tullius. (I think it plays in Chapter 9 of PoR?) Then, awakening came with a largely mid OST once again but with one, awe-inspiring stand-out, "Don't Speak Her Name," a god-like track that's arguably the best song in the series that has never been toped and likely never will. The rest of Awakening's OST was quality, but not amazing. Definitely better than the GBA era and dark age tracks though. Then, came the holy trinity when it comes to Fire Emblem OSTS, Fates, Echoes, and Three Houses/Hopes. All absolutely amazing OSTs both in terms of battle, map, and cutscene themes. So many good tracks, including:
-Thorn in You (Fates)
-Road Taken (Fates)
-Alight (Fates)
-End of All - ENG Mix Ver (Fates)
-End of All - JP Mix Ver (Fates)
-Contest of Pride (Fates)
-End - Lost in the Waves (Fates)
-The Scions Dance in Purgatory (Echoes)
-Twilight of the Gods (Echoes)
-Tearing through Heaven (Houses)
-Chasing Daybreak (Houses)
-Apex of the World (Houses)
-Funeral of Flowers (Houses)
-God Shattering Star (Houses)
-At What Cost (Houses)
-Literally every original theme in Three Hopes

Meanwhile engage just goes back into mediocrity with no good songs minus the desert map theme, what a shame.

Anyways God of War and TLOU1&2 also have extremely mid music. The only good song in either of those series is the God of War main theme and that's it. The awards those games got at TGA for "best OST" are blatant proof the TGA has extreme bias towards Sony and their "cinematic" slop than games with actual effort put into their OSTs. FREAKING OCTOPATH TRAVELER ANDCeleste lost to GOSH DANG READ DEAD 2? You know, Octopath? The series with the literal best OSTs of all time? Octopath 2 literally made a sequel to god shattering FREAKING star and yet this year it will probably lose to Spider Man 2 or something stupid like that, if it even gets nominated in the first place. (which I doubt.)

TLDR: Everyone's music taste is bad except for me /s

How to Make a popular RPG Maker Game

Step 1: Have a unique artstyle.
Step 2: Add horror stuff.
Step 3: Have no rips and sell for $15
Step 4: Pay a big streamer to play your game.
Step 5: Profit.

This goes for any indie game really. All you have to do to become insanely popular is to have a unique artstyle and have horror elements. That's it. Omori is the most popular RPG Maker game of this era and yet it has incredibly barebones mechanics and gameplay. People only like it because the art is unique and it's edgy. Pizza Tower, while not an RPG Maker game, is the same. It's literally just Wario Land 4 but only the chase sections. That's it. That's the game. And then people say the OSTs are "fire" and post non-stop remixes/mashups/rips of those songs over and over again 1000+ times (PLEASE STOP POSTING 100 SUNNY TIMMYTURNERSGRANDDAD IM SICK OF IT) while other series get completely neglected. There is only one active user making Xenoblade remixes on a consistent basis and he ONLY does Xenoblade 1 stuff because he refuses to play XB2 or 3 because "they would never live up to the hype of XB1." And then when he does do XB1 remixes he does songs like Tephra Cave instead of bangers like Engage the Enemy or Zanza the Divine/God Slaying Sword. It's really frustrating how everyone in the music community hyper-focuses on these subpar indie games with incredibly mid OSTs instead of games with amazing OSTs. Octopath Traveler 2? Never heard of them. Literally anything SMT related? Shin me-goo-me what? Way better indie games like Crystal Project, the Spark Trilogy, and Rabi Ribi come out every month yet no one cares. Everyone is all about Pizza Tower or Omori or whatever just because they have "unique artstyles." I'll say it again, graphics do not matter. The only things that matter are gameplay and story and everything that goes along with it. As long as the graphics aren't eye bleeding or intrusive to the gameplay, I couldn't care less what a game looks like. If Pizza Tower was 8 bit with megaman graphics or if Omori used default RPG Maker MV assets literally no one would care. Undertale/Deltarune proved it's worth not by fancy graphics, but by amazing music and characters. Gameplay in UT sucks IMO, but Deltarune's gameplay is significantly better especially chapter 1. Chapter 2 felt way to railroaded. But both games have pretty bad graphics and yet UT is beloved to this day with DR is one of the most hyped indie games ever for the full release. But then why is this sentiment not repeated with games with shallow gameplay but "unique" graphics like Pizza Tower or Omori? I'm just sick of people obsessed with these games instead of broadening to more obscure titles both from indies and the big companies. No one played Octopath 2 and that game was a 10/10 masterpiece. Even less people played something like Crystal Project.

Edit: If Chronicles: The Lost Page had no rips and more "unique" graphics (mainly a van-goh paint like artstyle), it would have 100,000 sales instead of just around 150/200 and I would be a millionaire. That's how easy it is to make a popular game, just be spooky and have pretty graphics. You don't need to have a good story, or good characters, or good gameplay, just nice graphics and creepy stuff.

Edit 2: Sorry about the rant, I'm not feeling the best recently.

Baldur's Gate 3 lets you frick a bear... no, I'm not making this up. How is this allowed?

author=Irog
We reach the same conclusion: characters need to keep human sexual traits to appeal to humans.

Professional game developers wants to increase their revenues by using edgy content to build buzz... or because they think some bears will buy the game.

Of what I've seen it's worked out for them extremely well. Baldur's Gate 3's full release is selling incredibly well and getting extremely high praise in spite of all it's edgy/perverse content. Appealing to the furry degens who are into bestiality (not all furries are degens fyi, I'm only talking about specific ones) only helped matters and the casual audience either didn't care since the bear sex is optional and hard to access or didn't even know about it since they didn't follow the news surrounding the game.

[RMMV] How would a superboss fight against Mewtwo work?

Never mind, I figured one out on my own with a bit of brainstorming. So the fight goes like this:

Mewtwo is the main enemy in the battle who possesses two arms, both additional "enemies" on the field with their own turns. Each hand has two moves. The left arm has "Psycho Shot" which deals severe almighty damage to one foe while inflicting every non-lethal status effect and "Psycho Blast" which deals unreal almighty damage to all foes that lowers all stats. The right arm has "Psycho Boost" which buffs all stats for all allies besides itself while dispelling all debuffs and statuses and "Psycho Heal" which heals all allies besides itself based on remaining AP. (my version of MP, since it's not just for magick)

Mewtwo has 4 weaknesses: Spears, Guns, Force, (which is wind+earth+poison spells, basically a nature element) and Dark. When the left arm is active spears and force are protected, while when the right arm is active guns and dark are protected. Since this game uses the Octopath Traveler battle system, exploiting weaknesses is very important in order to break the enemy's shield, stunning them and opening them up for big damage. So your priority at the beginning of the fight is to get rid of the arms ASAP.

Meanwhile while you're fighting the arms, Mewtwo's main body is using two different skills, Hypernova which deals unreal almighty damage to all foes twice and Nightmare Eclipse which does dark damage to all foes equal to 50% of their max HP. So not only do you need to destroy the arms, but you also need to keep your HP above 50% so you're not instantly wiped out by Nightmare Eclipse.

But once you destroy the arms and open up Mewtwo's weaknesses to start breaking his shield, it's far from over. Once you get rid of the orbs Mewtwo will use a skill called "Omnidrive," beginning to charge up for his ultimate attack. You may think this would be the perfect time to break his shield and deal big damage, but think again. While in Omnidrive Mewtwo not only protects against all weaknesses, but also has his ultimate attack powered up based on how much damage he is dealt. Once the 3 turns charging are up, Mewtwo will use "Realground Shattering," dealing almighty damage to all foes based on the damage taken while charging x4. And if you thought of avoiding attacking Mewtwo at all and just healing and buffing while he's charging, once again, think again. Because if Mewtwo takes 0 damage while charging Realground Shattering will be powered up to max level and will do a garenteed 9,999,999 damage, spelling instant defeat. The trick with dealing with this attack is using an attack item that all do a set 100 damage and then don't attack again, which will bypass the move's 0 damage flag and cause the move to only do 400 damage, almost completely nullifying the attack.

However, even if you manage to survive Mewtwo's ultimate attack, it is still not over. At this point Mewtwo summons three orbs, a fire orb, ice orb, and thunder orb. Each orb uses a powerful magickal attack based on what orb it is, Rexfire, Rexfrost, or Rexthunder, each spell dealing unreal damage of their respective element to all foes 4 times. After 5 turns of being active, the orbs will self-destruct, with each orb using a different skill when slain that gives Mewtwo a different buff. The fire orb uses "Last Rites" upon death which gives Mewtwo HP Regen and temporary reraise/auto-life status. The ice orb uses "Frost Shield" upon death which gives Mewtwo +20% armor. Not defense, armor, meaning that he gets +20% damage reduction from all types of damage. And finally the thunder orb uses "Thunderous Brine" upon death which gives Mewtwo +25% physical and magickal armor pierce.

If the orbs self-destruct on their own, Mewtwo will do another round of Omnidrive before immediately reviving his hands again. However, if the orbs are defeated manually, Mewtwo will be open to attack for 6 turns completely uninterrupted before summoning the orbs again. After the orbs are destroyed for a second time no matter if it is done manually or they self destruct, Mewtwo will revive the hands restarting the pattern.

How do you like this idea for a superboss? Pretty cool, right?

[RMMV] How would a superboss fight against Mewtwo work?

At the end of the post-game in Pokemon Red and Blue, you fight Mewtwo, the game's apparently "superboss." However, due to the simplistic mechanics of the Pokemon battle system in a non-competitive 1v1 setting, defeating mewtwo in battle is incredibly easy. The hard part is actually catching him. But what if Mewtwo was an actual superboss in a RPG with a far more complicated battle system? Like, an actually challenging encounter with unique and difficult mechanics similar to any of the superbosses from final fantasy and various other, more challenging JRPGs? What mechanics would Mewtwo have? What sort of attacks? What would the strategy be for taking him down? What sort of strategies would the boss employ? Can someone please think of a neat battle structure that would fit Mewtwo is he were a legit super boss? Thanks. Serious answers only, because I know some smarty pants will say "make him immune to everything except bugs, which only do 10 damage." Haha very funny gen 1 Pokemon is broken haha. Can I please get examples of how a superboss fight with Mewtwo would play out in a modern JRPG like Octopath Traveler or SMT? Thanks,
