The Truth Revealed!

I'm pretty positive this is true for many of the people who start using RPG Maker for the first time, myself included!

Just a quick example, My first project was on VX called Save The Princess. While it had some humour in it, the mapping was just too... really bad. I can't remember it much, but it was dreadful. Monster encounter rate was too high, with the same slime monster over and over again. At least each dungeon had a different monster, but only one enemy/troop per dungeon. I was not using enough tiles when mapping either!

Yet I realize somehow it was so bad, both the mapping and the gameplay, and I never released it over the internet.

So there you go, and I'm sure there a lot of people who's first games were not so good, too.

I'm not saying everyone first game is always going to be bad, but it's usually us experiencing with RPG Maker for the first time, so you have to learn certain things first.

But it's good you can always learn from it, for your future projects!

No thanks.

At this point, I think you'd do better moving forward with new projects. ^_^

I still have the backup files, if you would all like playing a bug fixed version in the future. (IDK if it could pass RMN's standards though.)
No one's first game project is worse than mine. No one.

I know I do! It was RPG Maker 95. It never got finished and is lost to time. I didn't bother backing it up, tho I kinda regret that now, as I'm curious about how bad it was XD
Don't worry, pretty sure almost everyone has a first game they never released on the internet and don't talk about.

You might have noticed (I bet you haven't notices) that I have been leaving suspicious clues around my recent posts hinting at a possible deep secret I have been keeping. Zero Gear Fighters was not my first game. Surprising,I know. My very first game was a unreleased title known as Chronicles of Light, known in it's files a simply chronicles. I'm sorry I've been lying to you this entire time. Chronicles of Light was just REALLY REALLY BAD. Like, if you thought Zero Gear Fighters was bad, broken, and unplayable, well you haven't seen nothing yet.

When I first got RPG Maker VX Ace in the Christmas of 2015, I went straight to work on my first "dream game" without any prior knowledge about the engine. Big mistake. I went to work making some original characters though Ace's awful character creator, and solely used the pre-made assets in the database with maybe a couple stat changes to make the game actually possible to beat. The game was super linear with horrible mapping that could make Zero Gear Fighters cry. Every dungeon was a maze using the same chopped wood, stones, and various other things not make the hallways.

I didn't know about basic events like Door, Chest, or Transfer, so I had to make every event myself. This culminated in the greatest flaw of this game. Instead of setting up switches to delete events, I instead used the eventing command "erase event" to remove unneeded events. This seemed to work, but had disastrous consequences. As you may know, the "erase event" command does indeed erase events, but for only as long as you stay in that map. If you leave the map and come back, the event will reappear!

Technically, the game was still beatable, unlike the infamous Philip and Omega Town glitches in Zero Gear Fighters which soft locked the game or made it impossible to progress.

The final sin of the game was about halfway though developing it, I came to the conclusion that my mapping was indeed crap, and to circumvent that instead of getting better at mapping, I instead used sample maps for the rest of the game. Also the usual pitfalls. RTP music, the attack attack heal strategy for every battle, the text not fitting, and various other pitfalls that many early RM games fall into.

Overall, I hope you had a bit of insight into the development of my first game. I may share further details about the plot, characters, and world of my first game and Zero Gear Fighters which I started developing immediately after "completing" my true first game, Chronicles of Light.
