A question about the release date function.

I was wondering just now about how the release date function effects how a game is actually released on to the site.

My question is, how does it effect the Latest Games area on the main page? If i set a faraway date just to hide a game for a while, then cancel the date, would the game appear in that field like it was brand new?

Not Able To Use A Skill In RM2k3.

So, I've been busy setting up all the things I need for battles in Neo Lescia. I've finally gotten down to skills.

In the game, there are two skill subsets, "Cast" and "Tech". Cast spells are given by levelling, and Tech spells require you to equip an item like so:

Now, when I created one characters effect magic, it worked fine, and allowed me to cast a status condition on a party member. But when I made another characters attack magic, it glitched out and prevented me from using it in battle. I didn't screw around with anything, I just made it like I make every skill, and set up the common event piece of it. The skills page looks like this:

I don't know what the source of the problem is. When I go into battle, the necessary switch is activated, the character has enough MP, the monster isn't immune to the attribute of the attack...

Does anyone know why it does this? I've have this problem in the past, and I solved it by recreating the skill, but that didn't work this time.

Cliff Spriting Help

Okay, I really need some help here. I'm trying to sprite some cliff tiles for a chipset I'm in the middle of making, but I am ridiculously terrible at it.

Thats the tile I have made, next to the effect I want. I can get the bottom to look decent , but I can't get the top to look any good at all, and the bottom definitely needs improvement. Any ideas?

Also, I'd like some general advice on how you spriters out there do other types of cliffs, cause I really need to learn.

How do you like your world map?

Now as you know, there are quite a few ways to make your world map when constructing a game. You could make a giant and epic world, full scale, that loops and everything. You could seperate the regions down and get a little more personal with the culture and geography. Or you could do away with it entirely, replacing it with a screen of the map that you can use to warp around, or make passages and trails that connect the cities. Who knows, there may be more that I don't know of.

I personally use the region way myself. I love detailing the world, and getting into seperate geography, weather, etc. It makes the world seem large and much closer to the size an actual planet would be, much closer to the level of detail and actual planet would have.

So, how do you like your world maps? Furthermore, how do you go about filling them in? Do you prefer landlocked, with giant continents, or a lot of water? Do you just have the story situated areas and nothing else, or do you stog your map with optional zones?

iTunes Album Copy Problem

I've had this problem for a while, but now it's really starting to bug me as I can't seem to find a way to fix it, or find any cause for the problem.

Basically sometimes when I put new music on my library, it looks prefectly fine and all... on list mode. When in grid or cover flow there seem to be multiple copies of the same album, even though everything like album name, artist, genre and so on is the same. I don't usually use grid or cover flow but It's annoying, since I like to look at all of it sometimes. Also this doesn't happen on my iPod with cover flow.

Heres what I'm talking about:

Also I don't rip music from CD's, I torrent it. I'm willing to bet that might be the problem.

Racial Diverstiy In RPG's

Something I've been wondering about recently. Why are there so many white people in RPG's? I'm not exactly complaining, but the only two black people that I remember from any game are Barret and that guy in FF8, and I can't even think of an RM game that has one black guy in it. I just found it really odd that there isn't at least a balance between black and white people in any RPG. Is there really any reasoning behind this (I hope not), and do you think it even matters?

Also I want to know if you have racial diversity in anything you are currently making or have made.

Spriter For Hire

Alright, so basically I'm looking for something to do with some free time that I have. I decided that since people generally like any graphics I make, that I like making graphics, and my current project doesn't use them, I can get someone to hire me as a spriter.

I use a very Earthboundish style of work, since that was one of my main inspirations for the way I do them. As for the type of work I can do, I'm comfortable doing any chipsets, FF4/5 styled charsets from scratch. I can resprite monster graphics and make them fit, since I am unable to do anything from scratch in that area yet. I can also do FF4/5 battle characters.

Some examples of previous work:

As for what I expect, if anything:

I expect to have a creative reign over many aspects of the graphics, not being told to do something exact, but more general. Things come out better this way.

I also expect to be credited for my work. (Obv.)

So, PM me if you're interested and I can talk with you about contact info.

Cheers, Lennon.

RPG Maker 2003 Message Code

Hey, I used to have a list of message box codes for RM2k3, but I cannot find it anymore.

The codes I'm looking for are the ones like:
\| - for pauses in dialogue
\c - for text color

Stuff like that. I need the rest of them, and one in particular, the one that changes text speed.

The list would be more helpful though.

Neo Lescia

Copied from the game page here.
http://www.rpgmaker.net/games/1065/

I'll just discuss some of the main points of Neo Lescia here. I wont get into the story because I want that to be a complete mystery to the player. Well maybe I'll do a breif outline or something.

Setting/World

I've tried to avoid a generic fantasy setting for the game, by using a half cyberpunk half steampunk mixture for it. "Cybersteam" as I like to call it. Basically the world does run largely off of steam, but computer-ish things are around too, such as cryogenic chambers, one case of an ancient computer, neon signs, and power plants. This is reflected abit more in the game play, but I'll get into that later.

The world at large has many mysteries, as that is the main theme of the game, the mystery of the world. That being said, I want the presentation and music to reflect this, which is why I chose an epic/orchestral sundtrack (Lost Odyssey)for the project. I'm using rudra chips with this because: a)They are detailed, and a certain level of beauty can be obtained by using them, b)I'm fairly skilled at rudra mapping, and c)They give me an opportunity to make the environment better, which is another central theme.

I also plan for the world in Neo Lescia to be largely un-inhabited, sort of in a developing area, where small colonies exist along with big cities, and people are starting to migrate further out into the wild.

The Lore

I'm giving special attention to the lore of Neo Lescia, in that nothing in its world wont have a backstory. Everything you can come across can be researched at bookshelfs/historians, and by talking to NPC's.

I also plan to divide the culture of the game into denominations, where different continents will live by rules based on real world cultures, such as Japanese, Greek, European, African, etc.Even the monsteres will be divided, being based on the mythology of the aforementioned groups.

I may forget to include a backstory for some things in the making of the game, but with its release it will come with my notes of the locations/lore.

Story Goals

I don't want the story of this game to be a generic good vs evil kill the demon sort of thing. Instead, there is no clear villain in the game. I will attempt to drive the player on the desire to discover more about the mystery of the world. Of course, there will be small conflicts, but the larger scale of things will be kept a mystery.

The story itself is centered around a stone, the Monolith that has been on the planet since the beginning of life, and why it is there/what it can do. The story is also centered around personal demons, as the characters in direct contect with the mystery will change and become different people altogether.

Gameplay

The gameplay will be for the most part driven on mystery (once again), as the environments will be open and diverse, and sometimes interconnected in ways you normally wouldn't see in an RPG Maker game.
For the atmosphere, I've decided to not make music the most prevalent thing in the game, rather, I will use sound effects to create ambience, and have music low volume in proportion (If there is any music in that area at all).

As for the battles, I've taken to using a front veiw system. The talents of the player come from "Neon" or, the colors of the world. Each character has their own crystal grid which you can set various color coded gems to, to gain color coded skills and traits. Each weapon will be also denominated by color, usually having the color in its name. The same goes for armor and acessories.

For info on color traits, see the color traits grpah here: http://gamingw.net/item.php?id=78085
