LIBERTY'S PROFILE

I enjoy playing and creating games (mostly RPGs) and have a love of story and characterisation above graphics. I've been into RM* since '96 and have used all makers - started on the PSX makers, found and used a patched version of the SNES RM, then moved to RM95. When I found RM2K I finally decided to join some forums and I've been a part of the community ever since.

DOING IT! - WEEK FOURTEEN

DOING IT!

Week the fourteenth.

DOING IT! is a community event ran each week where a prompt is given and those who wish to fulfill it post their work here. It is entirely optional, you may join at any time - even after a week has finished. Feel free to post as many pieces as you like. Feedback is encouraged.

DETAILED EXPLANATION/QUESTIONS/SUGGESTIONS HERE

RULES
- Post your work in the thread, preferably with some small explanation about it. Whether that be about any troubles you had fulfilling the prompt, how you went about it or how you think it turned out is up to you.
- Feedback is highly encouraged, but optional. No flaming please. Constructional critique is preferred. If you see a piece without feedback, consider leaving even a line about it. Keep feedback polite.
- Keep posts on/in topic. Try not to get too off-track, please.
- "Borrowing". As these threads may include both original graphical and musical creations please ask the creators instead of just adding them to your 'collections'. If authors don't mind adding full works, go ahead, but partial works are also encouraged. If someone states in their post that they do not want their work used, please try to refrain yourself from grabbing with your grubby hands. It makes you look like a fool and a thief when others' point it out. People have been given bad reputations and ostracized from communities for doing this.
- You may add to this topic at any time. A link to this and the other weekly topics to come will be added to the main topic each week. Feel free to add new work to any of them at any time.

If you have any questions, suggestions or ideas for prompts please see the
original thread.

PROMPT: BATTLE ROYALE
In most RPGs battles are a large part of the playing experience. Take one of your battles and try to spice it up a bit. Perhaps add a new skill for an enemy, or better AI. Maybe up the pace a bit, mess with in-battle dialogue/actions or fiddle with graphics. Once done show either a still-frame, a video or a description of your battle.

PROMPT: SOUND BYTES
Sound is something that can both help and hurt a game. Annoying sounds can get very old, very fast whilst proper application of sound can help create great atmosphere. So, what's your favourite sound effect? Do you use them often, or not at all? Count up how many sound effects you have in your game. Which is the most used/your favourite?

PROMPT: TALKIN' 'BOUT IT
Dialogue is a large part of your game. It is what enables your characters to come alive and can be a great device for giving information. So let's work on that this week. Take a few conversations you're not happy with and work on them. Take into consideration the flow of the conversation, any repetitions made in it, characterisation and information. Post up something you're happy with and something you're not and let's work together to make better dialogue~

PROMPT: ARMED TO THE EYEBALLS
A staple of most battle-oriented games are the weapons and armour that you equip your character/s with. So this week lets talk about them. Numbers, effects, skills, looks - anything to do with weapons, armour and equipables. This can include sketches, descriptions, numbers, skills, systems and/or anything else that catches your fancy when it comes to equipment.

BONUS PROMPT: Take five equipables and post up the in-game description that you've given them. Let's see if anyone can guess what they are just by reading said description. ^.^

PROMPT: CARTOGRAPHY STAGE II
Maps are integral to most games, as we already know. So how do you go about mapping in your project? Do you make it up as you go along? Plan a diagram of the map out on paper/in your head? Or do you jot down every idea and thought? Do you randomly add events to the map or calculate where everything goes beforehand? What do you think makes a good map/dungeon/town/etc? Let's discuss our maps, mapping methods and anything else to do with mapping, layers and events this week.

WEEK 10 BONUS PROMPT!
Take a look at a random map in your project and describe it here in ten words or less. Try to really give a feel of your map or at least a good description. Be cryptic if you want. For an extra challenge try not to use these words:
- cave
- forest
- desert
- town
- city
- mountain
- tower
- castle
- village

Numbers, where would we be without them? Well, we wouldn't have computers for a start... So let's pay homage to those digits that keep the world (and our games) turning. Trouble with VX - Shop sales

I'm having a bit of trouble with VX. Every time I go to buy or sell something from/to a shop it's set at $0. I've re-entered the cost amounts, fiddled with the scripts I was using (Yanfly's Shop, Shop variable costs, Beastiary and item description scripts - there were others but they didn't mess with costs or items), readded the scripts, deleted the scripts, closed the program and readded them again but I can't seem to find what the problem is or where it originated.
It must be part of those scripts, but I can't find what's doing it! I also tried the scripts in a dummy project, but they're working fine.

Any ideas?

PROMPT: SPOILING THE SCENE
Two prompts this week! Firstly, open a graphical creation program and sketch a scene from your game. It matters not how good or bad you are. The rougher and more obscure, the better. Any scene - whether it be something you've yet to finalise or one that is basically complete - as long as it hasn't yet been shown in-game/demo/is known about by others - and post it here with no explanation.
Second task? Take someone elses picture and try to explain what you think is going on in it. Try not to get caught up in preconceived notions about the game itself when doing this. See how close you can get to being right.

EXTRA CREDIT: Make a quick sketch of your main character. Be as detailed or vague as you like.

Items. Every game has them - whether they're little yellow dots you need to collect to finish a stage, pieces of meat to give you ULTIMATE POWER (TM) or shards of broken crystals that somehow allow you to change your job. One way or another you will need to create at least one item for a game. So, let's share a few of our items with each other - graphical, description, ideas-of or statistics. Whatever you feel like.
