LIBERTY'S PROFILE

I enjoy playing and creating games (mostly RPGs) and have a love of story and characterisation above graphics. I've been into RM* since '96 and have used all makers - started on the PSX makers, found and used a patched version of the SNES RM, then moved to RM95. When I found RM2K I finally decided to join some forums and I've been a part of the community ever since.

[Event] RMN Mascot

It's come to my attention that everything is being gijinka'd - from Earth, to washing detergent, to Internet Explorer. So why not RMN?

Gijinka - an anthromorphic representation of a thing, usually taking the form of a cute or badass character design that represents said thing in various ways. Usually using colours, shapes and designs already inherent in the design of the thing. It's Japanese, of course, because of course it is.

So, let's have some fun!

Everyone who takes part in designing a gijinka/mascot of the site using the official colours and various design pieces to represent what RMN would look like if anthromorphised will get a badge. Then we hold a poll to see which design is the most cutest/awesomest/neatoburritoest and the winner of the poll will get another badge on top of the participation badge!

You don't need to be a great artist to take part, and pixels, sketches, paintings, drawings, etc are all welcome!

To join in post your version of RMN in this thread! Remember to keep it rule-appropriate!

Also, a handy little cheat sheet of the main site colours and some design aspects.

FAQ
Dimensions of images?
800x800 should be more than big enough for when you submit to the page, but any sized canvas is fine for drawing on. Just make sure to shrink it down to at least 800x800 when submitting a visual image to the page. You can, of course, throw links to larger images for the use of promotional purposes, just make sure one of those images is 800x800 in size. >.<)b

Examples?
Here's some links to other site gijinka to give you an idea of what is meant by the term. 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5

Date end?
10th October. That gives about 3 weeks to play with. Can't rush art and all that jazz~

Styles?
The image can be any style. All that matters is that it reflects and embodies the site. Like, you can look at it and go "Yes, that looks like RMN would as a character!"

[Poll] Spoopy Skeletons and Wicked Witches

Every year we run a month-long game making event for Halloween. This year is no different, however this time we're giving you guys a choice in what event we end up running. So vote on what you'd most like to see ran for this Halloween!

Fractured Fairy Tales
Retell old fairy tales and add a horror twist. Whether it be Hansel and Gretel being demons who vandalise a poor old lady's house or Little Red Riding Hoodlum stalking an innocent wolf through a city-scape forest, taking something and messing with the pieces to make something new is definitely a tried and true way of creating interesting works.

Dark Indulgence
Make a game with a dark theme. Your choice what you make as long as it is thematically dark in nature.

Meat Puzzle Madness
Collaboratively create a puzzle game with horror twist. An escape-based puzzle event where you make horror themed puzzles (a la Saw) which get stitched together at the end of the game to make a cohesive whole. You'd get 3 weeks to work on the game and 1 week for it to be put together, hopefully in time for Halloween.

They Walk Among Us
There's a lot of things that go bump in the night - real horrors that others have witnessed. True stories to make your skin crawl. Taking inspiration from actual true stories, make a horror game!

Blacktober
Red, White and Black. Three colours that work quite well together, creating a stark contrast to each other. Create a game using a palette of only monochrome colours and reds.

Little Nightmares
Gather together bad dreams that members have had in the past. Then everyone picks one of the dreams from the list made and uses it as inspiration to create a spooky game.

Revive the Dead, Beaten Horse
Bringing dead games back to unlife. Pick a game you stopped working on at some point and try to finish it over the course of the month. Zombify them gams!

RMN dreams of RMN

Ever dream about the site or people there-on? Share your dreams of RMN with RMN!

I'll start:
I had a dream where I was at a wedding. I didn't know the two people getting married at all, nor anyone at the wedding. Then LockeZ turned up and demanded we play DnD. He pulled out piles of dice and told me I had to pick one. I just grabbed one and rolled it and got a natural 1. Then I woke up.

>.<;

Another one I had included a bunch of people from RMN just turning up at my house at random and asking to stay for a while. That was all good and fine. I was showing them around a hill in the area but they kept getting lost so I kept having to run around and grab them and drag them back to the car we were in and shove them in. Think 20 clowns in a car. A few times I had to chase some of them when they slipped and started rolling down the hill in the middle of the road. >.<;

I can't remember everyone who was in the dream but I do remember there being Kloe, kentona, LockeZ, Craze, NeverSilent, Unity, Red Nova and maybe Ozzy? It was weird - a lot of the time my mind was just lumping everyone together as 'people from RMN' instead of specific names. Really weird dream.

But yeah. Ever dreamt a little dream of your fellow RMNites? Share~

Tabletop RPG Stories

Some of us play Pathfinder, DnD and the other iterations of 'roll dice, do shit' games. Let's share stories!

ITCH.IO SCANDAL :: CHECK YOUR NAMES AND GAMES!

So a concerned member PM'd me earlier today to warn of some games that might have been stolen from the site. I looked into it and found something very concerning.

Images, names and details of games from RMN have been added to itch.io, either under the original developers' name or another members' name. These profiles have downloads added that have malware in the form of bitcoin miners and other viruses.

This means that someone is using our site and the content there-on, as well as the names of our members, to spread virus-laden projects.

Leafo, the owner of itch.io, is looking into the issue, but he's currently helpless to figure out which are real and which are fake. Thus, we are asking for your help to deal with this.

What can you do?

Search on itch.io for your username and game names.

Any hits that you didn't put up yourself (or give permission to put up to others), report. Put something along the lines of "This was stolen from RMN and is my game and may possibly have malware."

Leafo and his crew will be on the look-out for any reports about these stolen games.

Help us protect you, and each other! If you notice someone else's game/s or name/s on there without appropriate details, post either here or to them via PM so that we can check this out. Quite a few people have already reported stolen content (including myself), so keep an eye out!

Let's ship the site, yo. Just ship each other with each other for fun. Be mindful of people saying they don't wanna ship, tho, okay?

Secret Santa 2017 {SIGN UP}

It's that time of year again, folks! Time to get your share on~

What is this?
Why, it's Secret Santa, of course!

OH MY GOD! WHAT IS SECRET SANTA?!
It's a simple thing, really. Throw your name in the hat and get one in return. You are that person's Secret Santa and must keep the name secret from anyone! Then, before the due date below, you get them a present. On Christmas Eve, you will receive a gift from your own Secret Santa and happy fun times are had by all~

What counts as a present?
We usually like to keep it site-centric so stuff like reviews/media for games, short games that cater to that person's tastes, something for their game (resources/scripts/etc), something you think they'd like... that kind of thing. If you have a hard time coming up with ideas, you can ask me as intermediary to ask them what they'd like.

If you have another idea for a gift, PM me and I'll let you know if it's fine.

So, how do you get in on this action?
Easy! Just give a holler in a comment below before the cut-off date. Simple, eh?

Rules are as follows:
- First rule of Secret Santa club. Don't talk about Secret Santa club.
- Second rule of Secret Santa club. See rule #1.
- Sign up below by leaving a comment that lets me know you're joining in.
- The cut-off date for joining is the 8th of December.
- You will have until the 24th of December to send me via PM the gift for your Secret Santa.
- I will be posting who had whom in this thread on the 26th so don't go spilling the beans before then!
- If you suddenly need to drop out, PM me ASAP and I'll do some rearrangements. It would be preferable that you don't drop out, though.
- You do not require a game to join! It can be something small, cute, and personal, just for that person. Or, you know, related to their games too. ;p
- Please make sure your gift is of a decent quality. Put some thought and/or effort into the gift.
- Please do not include illegal or pirated items in your gift. Especially pirated games. I didn't think it needed to be said, but apparently it does.

How to submit
- For video submissions, use a free-hosting video site like VideoBam, flikr, Break, GorillaVid, Veoh and DailyMotion.
- Send me the link via PM before the due date.
- For reviews and artsy stuffs, send me the text/image/etc via PM before the due date.
- Do not add your reviews, arts or videos to the site until I say so in this topic.

[CLOSAT] A is for Action

~ CLOSAT ~
A is for Action

What is this?
This is the fifth of a series of Creative Writing exercises. There will be seven (7) topics/parts to the series, this being the first, and all are aimed at creation.

This fifth episode will focus on creating a action.

What are we creating?
This time, as the topic header states, we'll be creating an action. Each person who joined previously will be tasked with making one.

You'll do this like so:
- Go for a walk. Take a pad and pen with you.
- Find a few places to set up and people watch for a while. (If you can't actually get somewhere there are people or can't go outside for some reason during the week, watching some live footage of sports games, news or the like and taking notes on that will do.)
- Note down any interesting actions that you see people do.
- Pick the one that was the most unusual and use it to base an action on.
- Post that here (you can also post your notes).

- This Friday will be the deadline. That's the 29th of September.

Once your action is done, it will be added to the topic. This will be referenced at a later date. You don't need to add your observations, but you may if you wish.

- Little girl quietly plonks herself down in the middle of the sidewalk to force her mother to pay attention.
- Girls swinging plastic bags almost hit another girl in the face.
- Motorbike driving past startles an older lady so much that she drops her walking stick.

Chosen action: Swinging heavy plastic bags.

[CLOSAT] S is for Situation

~ CLOSAT ~
S is for Situation

What is this?
This is the fourth of a series of Creative Writing exercises. There will be seven (7) topics/parts to the series, this being the fourth, and all are aimed at creation.

This fourth episode will focus on creating a situation.

What are we creating?
This time, as the topic header states, we'll be creating a situation. Each person who joined previously will be tasked with making one. Just one, mind you.

You'll do this like so:

- Look behind you. What you see first will be your word.
- Using that word, create a word web* of at least 20 words.
- At the end of your web, take the last word and create a situation with it.
- Post it in this thread.
- Profit?
- I'll add my examples in the situation section.
- This Sunday will be the deadline. That is September 17th.

Situations can range from creative or uncreative - whichever you like.
In this case a situation is something that causes an event or conflict or moves the story onwards. The situation itself can be an event or conflict, but it would be of large significance in the story. For example: Falling off a cliff or missing the last train or accidentally breaking your date's nose. These are all different situations.

*A word web is a brainstorming tool where you start with one word and connect other words to it, then more others to those words. Eventually it ends up looking like a messy spiderweb. A few examples:

Once your situation is done, it will be added to the topic. You don't need to add your word web, but you may if you wish.
