Anyone interested in comic reviews?

I've just started a blog based on reviewing some trade paperbacks that I own. And yeah, I'm kinda trying to plug it. I'd like to get some feedback from anyone interested. Please check it out at:

Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks.

"Mature" games?

I look on a lot of internet forums and comments on gaming articles. The word "mature" often comes up when talking about different games. Problem is, I'm not sure what a lot of people mean when they say "mature".

For me, mature suggests a depth of understanding, an ability to look at the world beyond it's black and white representations and an ability to handle problems in calm, logical, manner.

That's not the message I'm getting from a lot of games meant to be "mature", where the term seems to be a synonym for "inappropriate for children". In my opinion, you're talking about different things, there. The "Fast and Furious" movies I would absolutely say are inappropriate for children, but the paper-thin plot, the instant gratification and sloppy writing of the films make it far from being mature in my eyes.

Which is why I want to take it to you guys- what really makes a game mature? Is it extreme content, or depth?

Games we need to get over

I know there are games that we consider "classics", but sometimes all they do is keep us back from appreciating games that come after it, because the older games are hailed as perfect entities that can never be improved upon.

For me, these are the two biggest culprits:

Final Fantasy VII: I like this game. No, I love this game. But I get sick of it when a FF topic comes up, and all anyone talks about are Cloud and Sephiroth. The idea that every FF game has to basically be the new FF7 is the reason why big swords feel cheap to me now.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time: Again, I love OOT. It was a great game. But what it did to the series fanbase is near unforgivable. To those other fans of the series- remember what happened when everyone found out what The Wind Waker was gonna look like? What a mess. And the worst part is, when that game proved to be excellent in its own right, people still kicked up a fuss when a related style was used for Skyward Sword (which, by the way, looked closer to Twilight Princess, just more "arty"). The zelda games of the last 6 or so years, as excellent as they have been, tend to get sidelined because the crybabies want more OOT.

Okay, now I've vented, keep in mind that these are my opinions, and you are entitled to disagree.

I would like to know, though, what games you think we need to "get over". Suggestions?

What do we remember?

RPG Maker in all its forms has existed for a while now. Good games have come and gone. I want to know if you guys have fond memories of any old RPG Maker games that now are hard to find (or don't exist anymore) on the internet.

What do you remember?

Hey hey hey, it's me

I've been here for a while now, and done no formal intro, so this is it.

I've been working with RpgMaker since I discovered RM95 when I was 14. It was a bit of a love affair since then which hit it's peak when I discovered the ABS on GamingW.

Yep, I'm an ABS guy. I love playing the DBS, but making ABS systems really feels special to me.

I got into RPGs by firstly playing Pokemon. No matter how kiddy you think it is now, you gotta admit you at least liked the idea once. Since then I've played Zelda, Donkey Kong and came to worship Nintendo to a scary degree. I've played and loved the FF games from 4-9 and I have loved most of the RPG maker games I've played.

I signed up so I can share my latest project, Company of Hearts, with as many people as will bother to play it.

As for personality? I'll let my posts over the next few months define that.

Looking for a game

So I've been trying to download "Fenrir: First Operation" for a while, but the RMN link to it is dead. Anyone know where I can find it?
