What can you do with squares? (VX RTP Mapping Contest)

author=Ben_Random
I still haven't got much feedback on my submission, but then again, nobody has so I'm going to make mine official.

Nothing much to say really. The map looks good and nothing seems out of place. Wait... was the grave dug up? o_O

Tale of Exile Act I Review

I loved the game :D i wish i could the CBS system like you do; that was amazing

Um... you missed a word there. I have no idea what you meant to say.

Tale of Exile Act I Review

Well, thanks anyway.

This game is BEAUTIFUL.

It definitely is. However, as I did mention, there were a large number of passability errors that I found. I should have given graphics an 8, now that I think about it. I really loved the game, it is one of the best RM* games I have played. I didn't really want that to come in the way of my review. I guess I overdid it though.

The INTRO was about 20 minutes.

OK. My mistake. I completely overlooked the intro because I replayed the game a lot and would skip it on every replay. Oh well.

Like I said though, a very fair and balanced review for a game sorely needing one. I don't want to discourage that.

Gee, thanks. I was expecting harsher criticism. If you have any, just say it. It will definitely help me in making future reviews (if I ever do). I'll probably have to take notes next time every time I find something worth mentioning, that might go a long way in improving quality and depth.

No-Star Reviews: I did, and you can too!

http://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/8900

That list is not even exhaustive. There may be a lot of good downloadable not-reviewed games which never got into the list. Those games will be lost forever, shrouded in the mists of time...{/dreamy look}
And imo, a majority of those games could be crap owing to a crappy plot, crappy graphics or crappy gameplay. These may also be the reasons why they were never reviewed. rmn land vs. no-star land will be quite a challenge.

Tale of Exile Act I

if anyone ever finds that damn cat

Go up the city wall. From the inn go right until you reach the wall. You'll see stairs that can take you up. Once on the wall keep going right until you reach a door/opening. Go in and you'll find yourself in an area with a chest. Grab its contents, then go right and up and you'll find the cat. Did you get the house? I think you become a local and get access to the temple. And the 5,000 pounds job was shit hard, but it felt really good finishing it.

Games with a download without a Review

That list... is huge.
There's a game which is not included : Tale of Exile Act I (Completed)

Tale of Exile Act I

This game is just too good. The tactical CBS and CMS are really well-designed.

What RMN game are you playing now?

Tale of Exile Act 1. Awesome gameplay with tactical CBS.

The Customer Is Always Right - Perception Of Designer & Player "Responsibilities" In Amateur & Commercial Video Games

Sometimes I post stuff in the spirit of "Hey guys look at this cool thing I made" not "Tell me what's wrong with this."

Something of this sort happened recently and it did not end well for the simple reason that the person who got criticism was not expecting it.
There's no way anyone can display stuff from their games without expecting criticism/feedback, because there can be people who may not like it for genuine reasons, and they will voice their opinion. Ultimately, its the developer's choice whether to change it or to keep it.

The Customer Is Always Right - Perception Of Designer & Player "Responsibilities" In Amateur & Commercial Video Games

Part of the reason why amateur games are judged harsher than commercial games is because the amateur games have a playerbase that is much smaller when compared to commercial games. As a result, the players assume that the designer is obliged to listen to their complaints and act on them, which commercial game companies will never do unless a large number of players seem genuinely dissatisfied.

If players gripe about game difficulty or accessibility of goodies, the amateur game maker will probably say "OK buddy, I'll look into it and see what I can do." The professional will probably reply (that is, if he replies at all) "Its supposed to be the way it is. I have thousands of gamers who aren't complaining so you must be doing something wrong." The professional has an excuse to blame the player. The amateur normally does not.

Players also have low expectations from amateur developers. They jump the trigger at the slightest perceived abnormality without thinking that the developer may have wanted to concentrate more on quality and less on spoon-feeding, in order to provide a more wholesome gaming experience and a true sense of fulfillment on finishing the game.
