LOST_CARCOSA'S PROFILE

I'm Lost Carcosa, 3D artist and sometime game dev.

I love telling stories and game development gives me a change to tell ones that couldn't be told in other formats.

I've entered a few game jams and found my happy little niche in the RPG Maker adventure game space.

Memoriam Review

Hi, thank you for giving a detailed review! (Sorry for the delay in responding, I've had a few things going on.)

Glad you thought things looked good! I can confirm that Chaos (the team's artist) managed to put all the assets together in the weeklong period. Those of use in the writing/design areas were making prompts and requests throughout, and he always came up with the goods. I suspect if you feel anything is 'off' about the bust design it might be a consequence of him trying to minimize the amount of redrawing. Definitely something that can be refined in future projects!

Writing-wise I can see how the development of the narrative in the 'happier' endings might seem a bit abrupt. It's always a bit of a tough balancing act when you have to limit your content but want to retain a decent amount of weight to the conclusion, so it might be a case of going a bit overboard. Of course the best solution would probably be more content, haha. (But we can definitely work on that one!)

Sorry about the text. It's a little unpolished in places. As one person working in the engine I was transferring a lot of google doc script that wasn't necessarily formatted to suit the engine, and editing on the fly. The result is a little messy. It's a good reminder to put that consideration into formatting dialogue.

I feel like the puzzle difficulty might have wound up a bit inconsistent (not just from your own thoughts but a few people who have played it.) It's something for me to think about.

Thank you so much for taking the time to give your thoughts! Critique only helps us do better in future projects. Cheers!

Memoriam Review

Hi there, thank you so much for giving a thorough review!

I'm glad you enjoyed your time with it, despite some of the flaws. They're mostly down to me, as the in-engine person of our team, though also the last in the chain, so to speak, so I was bumping against a game jam deadline when I did a lot of the setting up.

Might have to jump back into the project and fix a few of the minor mess-ups with NPCs wandering into walls!

I do also agree the puzzles were a little simplistic, mostly as they were worked out in all of an afternoon, definitely something to be given more time and thought in future!
The objects using the same tile objects was also a very good point, and something to look at dealing with in other projects, so thanks for the heads-up.

The music was actually composed by one of our team (Forsaken_Waffle) specifically for the jam, which would explain why it was unfamiliar. The regular sounds are regular bundled assets for the sake of time, but the music is all his.

Thank you for playing and letting us know what you thought of it! We all worked hard to get it done in the timeframe, and despite the bugs scattered about I'm glad there's some merit to it. Cheers! :)

Name: Memoriam
Link: https://rpgmaker.net/games/12369/
Status: Complete (Finished in 7 days!)
Genre: Adventure/Puzzle, Mild Horror
Estimated length: Around 30 minutes-1 hour for a playthrough, possibly more depending on how easily you take to the puzzles, and whether you want to try for more than one ending.
Small description: Memoriam is a short, narrative-focused game where you play as Luca, a young drifter who becomes trapped in derelict shrine that attracts those lost and forgotten, and must find a way to escape, perhaps even bringing other lost souls with them.

Special requests: Memoriam was completed by four of us in one week for a Game Jam, with a couple of days allowed as a 'polishing period' to tackle major bug fixes. As a result there are a few minor bugs and most likely one or two typos.

As our team are hoping to work on more, less time-limited projects, we'd love to get some thoughts on the more creative sides of the game. Did you enjoy the characters? Was the writing a bit too wordy? Do the tiled assets look good and is the mapping pleasant to look at, and what could be improved making similar titles in the future? General opinions that we could potentially use for improving future offerings would be amazing. :)

A Slightly Belated Hello!

Hi there!

I will admit this is my second attempt at making an intro post. I began my first attempt, shortly after discovered my first submission had been accepted, and got so excited about this that I completely forgot my original goal.

So, I am Lost Carcosa! Lost or Carcosa are fine!
I'm a 3D viz artist by day and aspiring game developer, project co-ordinator and usual 'party face' of a team of four of us who love making very atmospheric, narrative-driven horror-y games.

I got into game development in 2020 for...pandemic-y reasons, and got into game jams. Did a few with a Unity-based team before deciding narrative-focused games were my thing, and dropping into RPG Maker as a result.

Aside from that I do a fair bit of 3D art, I enjoy writing, hiking and tabletop RPGs.
