Because it doesn't matter if something else is buzzing. Some part of you wanted to make a game exist; a void needed to be filled. Fill it.

Do we need to do one of those Craze vs LockeZ style rival-games? XD;

I can't be blamed if it turns out he was crazy before we collaborated XD ;)

Being serious here, the last thing I'd ever want to do is hurt anyone's motivation for game making. There is plenty of room here for all of our games, and you shouldn't give up hope! Please, luiishu, don't give up!

Like the only thing I don't see the point of is trying to read all those messages. That is too many messages.

I know it is difficult, but quit comparing your stuff to other stuff! Ask yourself, "Why do I think it reflects badly on me if I don't get this level of attention?" Because honestly getting few to no notes is more standard protocol than a sign of something bad. (And, of course, most of us dwell in the Morass of No Real Fame.)

It'll be OK even if you never get to that level. Just remember what makes the whole thing fun for you. And, hey, if getting attention was the only fun thing, that may be a sign that it's time to find a more fulfilling hobby. No sense in spending your free time on something that's not making you super happy!

Uni, don't be so hard on yourself, ok?

Another thing probably worth pointing out is that feeling of being happy for a friend but at the same time feeling like shit about yourself. This is something I tend to suffer from and the only real way to deal with it is to keep going. Giving up is not really an option because then you hate yourself even more.

Haha, professional (and hobbyist) envy is so easy to succumb to. Even if you've made things! Even if you've made great, popular things! I see people do it every day, haha.

But, y'know, the only thing you can do is the best you can. If you make something that people enjoy and it makes people happy, that's a start. Keep at it, and I think sooner or later you'll find happiness in the things you create and in the people who enjoy it.

Lacking so much self-awareness that I truly believe I'd be fine with nobody playing my games, or being so arrogant as to believe that my games are such unique, special snowflakes that they're legitimately filling a void.

Well, I definitely won't pretend that I wouldn't be incredibly bummed if no one played my stuff. But I absolutely believe that most creations and can fill a unique void - even, like, the third Avengers movie. Like, it's another silly action movie with the same heroes and a cliche plot, but that's gonna be some kid's favorite movie. Even if you make something small and only 100 people play it, someone's gonna pick it up and play it and take something from it, and maybe use it in their own work!

It doesn't have to be some sort of absolutely unique and out-of-left-field masterpiece to have a great effect on people. Mere Uniqueness doesn't do much on its own.

---

Anyway, honestly, I'm totes jealous too. I'm gonna try my best to use it to fuel my adventures into further gammiking and make the best games I can! That's the best I can do, haha :P
Okay, but did you let other big name games get you down like Pom Gets Wifi and Dreaming Mary and Hero's Realm and The Way and ...?

I'm gonna say 'no, no you didn't'. So what's different now?

I meant a void within oneself (or something like that), but, I'm not gonna peruse an argument.
I feel like this a lot.

My solution is to just make what I want in the world. Something that, even if no one else wants it, I would be satisfied to have it myself.

That way I know for sure that the audience is at least one.
I don't know if it was obvious that this was a little joke. You guys motivate me, you really do. However, I am actually scared about showing off my new games/projects I am working on. It's probably better to just fade away and come back as a new being with stuff under the belt.

I am a very stubborn person and I DO believe in myself, but at the same time I don't. I'm afraid of making the games I want to see in the world. It's truly a hollow feeling.

Not that obv. given that the sentiment is p. common among creative types. And... I'm not really sure where the "joke" part would come in. :/?

It sounds like you believe in yourself, but not to some unrealistic degree that you can't bring yourself to meet.

There's nothing wrong with perfectionism and wanting your projects to be amazing, but you can't get to the point where you can't be proud of your work at all.
if you logged in more often, then there won't be so many notices at once.
