I want to, but I am actually afraid that people will take my ideas and claim them as their own. On the other side, I'm not sure if this is something really new or just something done often.

First of all, I guarantee it has been done a thousand times.

Second of all, your ideas aren't good enough to steal.

Third, if your ideas are good, you should be extremely glad if other people use them too. Every good idea should be used in as many games as possible.

Fourth, if you don't discuss it with people and get feedback and work out how to make it work well, it definitely won't be good enough to even use in your own game.

Fifth, you're an idiot for worrying about something like that in the first place, no one does that shit.

Sixth, and perhaps most importantly, why the fuck would you even post this if you weren't willing to talk about it?

This is something I've thought a lot about and I've come to a similar conclusion. It's why I have no qualms with discussing any mechanic I'm working on at length (that and LockeZ's forth point, as getting feedback on these sort of things is super valuable).

If someone else uses the idea and makes a cool game, then good! You've helped them make their game better. It doesn't lessen your own game. One thing I love about this community is how big we are on sharing and helping each other.

I don't mean to pressure you if you don't want to talk about it, but I find it really refreshing to be able to say "Hey everyone, here's my idea and how I'm implementing it. What do you think?"
I agree with you guys, but if someone comes across someone else's idea, it's very likely that the person will claim it as his/her own original idea and sue the original artist. Also, the idea that the original artist came up with will no longer be new and unique/fresh if someone else uses it before the medium is released. It's probably best to remove the idea/mechanic from the game then, or perhaps it's even better to just cancel the entire project.

When I think about this again, I saw something a bit similar in CT, so I better not bring this up for discussion after all.
I understand your concern, but I don't think anyone is really going to steal your idea and much less sue you for it. xD As a general rule, people who steal ideas can't make shit of their own; That's why they steal ideas... At most there will be drama. And I don't blame you if you want to spare yourself that. But I think the benefits outweigh the risks. See LockeZ's post.
