Thank you both! The character in the center is Professor Iwasaki Namihei. Unfortunately he's flipped there so the Kanji is backwards, but the kanji it's written with makes his name translate roughly to "waves beyond the rocks" :D

The only thing I could think to suggest is that it changes who is 'right side up' based on whose side of the story your 1st save slot file is saved on. (or last accessed save slot?) Pretty sure scripts exist that can do at least one of those things.

I didn't think that would be an issue when I pitched the composition o<o
