[SIGN UPS] Mystery Mafia - House of Bones
The game can't really start until we receive PM's that tell us what roles we have. Or a proper game thread, for that matter.
Saying that, I hope everything is alright. "Family emergency" sounds pretty serious to me!

Visual novels are ok too for suggestions, the important thing is they are translated in English, as I haven't learned Japanese yet, even though I am going to.
In that case, I'll go ahead and suggest this game. I'm pretty sure you don't have to worry about translation on this one!
The Master of Souls
My best guess is that you'd go to the "Downloads" tab, and select the Act 3 patch. That should give you the game up to Act 3, with whatever bug fixes that were applied.

Childhood friend romances
I'm very much aware of a visual novel that has this, but, yeah, doesn't sound like what you're looking for. Though, when people ask about RPG Maker games with romance, Romance Walker is usually put forth as a suggestion. Might want to look it up!

I feel like I'm missing a word (title help)
I'm thinking "inadvertent" could be part of the title. It approximately means "by mistake", or "by accident". As for getting involved in something bigger than oneself, I can't rightly think of a word or phrase that relays this concept.
*Edit: Actually, the phrase "in over one's head" comes to mind. Not sure that's the kind of thing you want for a game title, though.

You should probably put a space after that comma, buddy! And maybe switch it around?
I feel like "Demons to some, angels to others!" is a better delivery of that line. Of course, I don't know the context.
Darigaaz, that Excalibur quote ("A dream? To some. A nightmare to others!") just keeps coming back to haunt me.
Gameplay Dialogue
Personally, I was thinking about "floating text" from the older Fallout games, but the newer ones have people say random stuff without being prompted.
