RMN is a rather befuddling place, so...

Riiiight. "What will that achieve" was what I chose, and that is the landmine <player> trips over. I'm not sure why I thought it was the other one, especially since I had the freaking file right in front of me to reference.

Comments on Megumi, under hide-tag:

To be honest, I didn't really have strong feelings for the character until I hit the SOUL-check. I sorta knew it was coming, thanks to having the story-file on the side (Bad Marrend!). I was randomly pretty close to the target number anyway, but it seems like a slight case of "Guide Damn It"? As to her reaction to the fail-routes, they rub me the wrong way. Let me attempt to articulate my issues. We are told about her short fuse in respect to the story she relates about Kioshi (where she says that he has a big mouth, and got what he deserves), and the event with Sota, (which I didn't take very seriously). However, I didn't really understand how short a fuse it was until I hit a "landmine". For me, it was Such STORY 18's BRANCHes. I think players really need to know what the heck they are getting into. Being "told" might not be enough, as was my case. It has to be "shown" instead. This is a difference that would make this character shine more, I think. The scene in question may even have a "Gee, I better not piss this girl off" comment from <player> for good measure.

Ugh. I know Masako has a "landmine", because her tachie doesn't even appear unless you can pass her first check, and if you don't make that check, fat chance, buddy, she's gone. Though, I do provide a clue as to how to pass that check. I'm still more than a bit leery about portions of the above comment.

Anyway, speaking of "landmines", with the other event, I chose "Don't do anything reckless.", thinking that <player> would attempt to provide some kind of "If you beat them up, wouldn't that ultimately prove the rumors they are spreading?" line. Except that never happens, Megumi over-reacts, and <player> is not allowed to say any more, and, presumably, the route ends in a fail-boat. I feel like <player> is doing what I'd do in this situation by letting it go in this manner, and it comes off wrong/weird/out-of-character. I feel like <player> should, at least, attempt to get Megumi to understand his point, even if she doesn't immediately appreciate it. If you must, do a PERSONALITY (and SOUL?) check to see how well <player> articulates his argument. Though, players would appreciate some kind of warning that a check is coming, and avoid an(other?) instance of "Guide Damn It".

Saying all that...
...I really like her background! The best way to describe why is that it's like Shoko's, only with enough spirit (spine?) not only to recover from being ignored, but outright embracing the friendship of others.

[Poll] So, there's a new Final Fantasy VII game...

I thought this thread was going to be about another game like Crisis Core (which I didn't mind too much), or Before Crisis (which I never played).

You wanna reserve an ID? Dozen is our custom content overseer, and has the final say in who goes where. Though, I've taken a few IDs, and have not had any complaints from him. Yet.

Anywho, before I would accept it, how about providing a bit of information about this character, outside of her name? You don't have to tell us everything, but, a sample tachie, and some kind of description of her main personality traits would be nice.

Saying that, I am vaguely aware of what a "waifu" is, and I could attempt to imagine how relevant that concept is in her story, but, it's merely a guess.

As for a BGM length, I don't think there is supposed to be a hard limit? I'll go searching through my files again to see what the longest track I've used was.

*Edit: Emiko's got "Day (Fionnhodgson)", which is 4 minutes, 44 seconds, with a runner-up in Joruri's content, "Ozarka is the Devil (MattJohnson817)", which is 4 minutes, 6 seconds.

[Poll] Three and Valve

Before Half-Life 3 I'd just like Half-Life 2: Episode 3

This, pretty much. Though, I wouldn't mind another Portal.

True. No other error popped up after making that change. So, the content can be played after making that change. I, uh, just, er, haven't gotten around to the part where I play the content yet.

Big Problem! Main character is invisable.

Assuming you set the walking graphics for the character slots you wanted to use, check the "Starting Party" (System tab), and see if it's empty.

Did a quick skim of Megumi's file. I found something odd that I didn't think would work (but does anyway), and one thing that returned an error when I tried to run her.

Let's get the error out of the way. In STORY 17, it has a "PLACE = Class A", where it should be "Classroom A". Minor technicality, but, yeah, the parser can be pretty finicky like that.

Now, the odd thing. I didn't think it was possible to have a PLACE command inside a BRANCH. I've never seen this before, and it just struck me as something that should not work. Except that it does. I don't know how long that functionality has been there, but, I have to wonder what other kind of header commands we can use like this that we (or maybe just me) don't know about.

2014 Indie Game Development Contest: $10,000 Grand Prize!

I'm not sure how the submissions are handled for this event. However, if the download is from an RMN gamepage, editing a pre-existing download would allow you to keep the same link for your game throughout the life of the submission period, and afterwards. Note that, if you do work on it after the official submission period is done, I would recommend having another download for it, out of courtesy to the event.

Though, if you find a need to do a quick-fix, or what-have-you, after the submission period is officially over, you'd best ask a judge if there is a "grace period" for updating your submission.
