STATUS

Hey not to be an asshole but this forum is kinda dead, could you guys reccomend some active social hangouts (in forum form) that you like? My topics of interest are: Idle chitchat, pixel art, music composing, casual game making.

When i joined this place had loads of posts but it all seemingly went to shit as most people who handed out the casual talkings were either shooed away or something of the sort. I'm not here to discuss the whys of this though, i think that has been explored already with no satisfying conclusion and i dont want to rant about it because i don't want to be subjected to a collective stoning by the "what are you talking about there's nothing wrong here" crowd.

I'm not saying i'll outright leave (i most definitely wont) but everyone finds the use of the welp forums as something bad and that kinda gets on my tits since i don't really enjoy most discussions going on in the other forums. I'm not as well versed in game mechanics and design as most serious developers here and i'm frankly not interested since this game making business is only enjoyable when i'm taking it as less seriously as possible. Is a side thing, a hobby that should be fun but frankly seems unfun lately.

I still intend to contribute to this site but having somewhere else i could go to have a casual talk that doesn't look like a graveyard sure could be nice. I'm referring of course to casual chat, not srs business. Forums, preferably, since i like to hop in say something, and then switch to another tab for two hours to then come back and leisurely take my time reading the replies that didnt go anywhere while i left.

Tigsource is dead too..
RMN is the most active forum I'm a part of. The other forum I most often frequent is Spheredev, where we do talk about and share our pixel art, music, and game maek talk, but if this forum is too dead for you, then Spheredev is already in the ground.

Forums might be dead right now because it's a busy time of year. Final exams are around this time, and Spring break. Businesses are preparing for summer.

People have lives.

Also, we're in McBacon Jam 4, which most of the active users are participating in.

I'm willing to give that forum you mention a try, even if it's to change the taste of the water. The water here tastes bitter.

I didn't see any forum suggestion in your post piano, as i said i'm not interested in discussing the whys. Do you have a cool place to hang?

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Part of the issue with RMN is that it goes out of its way to direct people away from the forums any time it can. As a result the discussions happen in other places on the site, not on the forums. Even right now, you're saying "this forum," but you're not posting in a forum. You're posting a status update on your user profile.

If you don't want to be bombarded with all kinda of activity about things you aren't interested in sorted by last-comment-date, and instead just want to be able to look up the exact content you're interested in, then I recommend looking through the other parts of the site, or perhaps watching the Latest Posts section to get ideas of where the talking is happening.

If you don't want that, and just want a constant source of noise so that you don't feel lonely, then try the RMN Discord. It probably has more of the kind of activity you're looking for than the forums. People are very active there all day; it gets hundreds and sometimes thousands of messages per day.
Mirak: It's primarily Sphere-based, mind you, but people do share their work in other engines from time to time (there's a subforum partially aimed at it), and if you are mostly sharing pixel art and music it doesn't really matter: forums.spheredev.org

Of course, if you do choose to try Sphere, everyone there would be quite willing to help you out, too.

Forum suggestions, pretty please?

Honestly for crying out loud if another person replies with anything other than what i specifically requested i'm oficially considering this a lost cause and a waste of time. Disheartening as usual, but not surprising. Also as usual.

Trust me on this guys, i've been here for a good enough while to know what features we have and what features we don't, the kind of people we have and the kind of staff we have. The amount of activity we have and the amount we don't. I'm asking for another place that is not rmn or *anything* rmn based for a good reason, that being that this place has astonishingly little to offer to me. I'm hoping this changes in the future but right now it doesn't. I don't hate you guys, i just want an alternate place that has different kinds of people while you guys sleep or "have lives". Maybe you guys know something i don't in regards to this specific thing i,'m asking for? I want that knowledge! Give me the courtesy of reading the words i write, please! Thank you!

Someone suggested the pixelation and pixeljoint forums in a pm, also noting that this might be against the rules because it counts as advertising? I don't think it does, but if anyone else feels uncomfortable posting suggestions here feel free to pm me.

I'm ok with small communities btw, as long as they don't make me feel uncomfortable or unwelcome! I have lots to give. ;D

Edit: shit i triple posted, sorry i meant to edit. My phone's screen is old and small and my finger pudgy and large

Grow up. A status about the activity of the forums leading to discussion about the activity of the forum, well fuck me, who would have guessed that.
I'm not really on much forums anymore. Though from what I've heard isn't RMW (or whatever it is called) basically this forum but with more activity?

Forums tend to... not be just random. Usually they are focused around some site or activity. I casually browse the Fear The Boot forums from time to time (because I'm a listener). The same with the Idle Thumbs forums. For casual gamemaking, but focused on AGS there's the AGS forums. I haven't been there in years so I don't actually know how active they are.

And saltw still exists I guess.

I guess there's probably also a bunch of subreddits dedicated to whatever interests. I assume those are kinda the free invisionboards of today.

EDIT: Yeah I forgot. itch.io also has a community thing. That might be worth a look.

Well, it really depends on your interests. Like for me, I usually hang out more often in Visual Novels Subreddit's Discord channel than here nowadays (the community does talk about general stuff too though). But I've also been busy with other things.

Even if I knew of another forum like this one I wouldn't direct you there. I'd direct people who are there to this one.

Though I'm confused because your complaint was right after both I and FlyingJester suggested alternate social hangouts.
Sounds like you want to hang on Discord

I am aware of discord thanks but it's a chat client and i'm lookimg for a forum, i understand that knowing the key differences between forums and chat clients is not a subject they teach in school, but it is a pretty important one for the purposes of this request.

Those are all good suggestions, i'll go check them out. Or a few of them at least.

The reddit interface confuses me a bit but it might be a good time to learn to use it, since as you said it seems to be brimming with activity on so many different topica. I also plan to join the sonethingawful community since it looks super fun. First forum i've seen that requests payment for membership but based on the few threads i've read it's worth it.

Edit: Itch.io!!! Of course!!
