Spirit in the Mirror Review

Thank you for your time to review Spirit in the Mirror. I appreciate the input you gave.

I understand that RPGMaker 2000 is a limited engine. This project was a personal challenge to me to make the best use I could with these limitations. In the future, I will use something more modern.

Also, I realize I have left out some critical details of the story. I had a plan for an alternate (and happier) ending, but I can't promise that I will find the time to implement it with life being busy. It would answer the questions you have about Anthea.

I am now at the point where I am the soldier and have a boat and can go to 4 ports - but I've been everywhere and have know clue what to do next - any help ? Thanks - Dennis

Head to the Kithali Beach. You currently can't enter through Port Rausen (guards block the way). Head north into the Kithali Highlands and pass through it to return to the capitol.

I'm really sorry about that.

I should've more thoroughly tested this on a Windows installation without the RTP before releasing this. I will do it when I have the time.

But in the meantime, install the RTP for RPGMaker 2000. You can get it here: http://divinelegy.com/rmt/utilities/rm2k_rtp.zip

That will fix the bug.

Spirit in the Mirror

I apologize about that! I have made a fix to the map. I'll go fix the download, but if you don't want to download the entire thing again, go here:

http://rpgmaker.net/games/5226/downloads/4750/

Just download that file and replace the Map0118.lmu in the game directory.

Thanks for pointing that out! I'll take a look!

I am writing a guide right now. I've been delayed but I'll try to get it up as soon as possible.

Spirit in the Mirror Review

Thank you for your review. I appreciate the time you took to play through the game, and write up your thoughts. :)

Can you tell me which scenes you felt were hampered by the sound effects? I will be doing a second release of this game in the future with an alternate ending, and I plan to take care any bugs that were found and any common complaints. Also, what was the bug you found? You can PM it to me if you'd like so there are no spoilers in the review.

Again, thank you for your time to play and review my game! I greatly appreciate it!

Spirit in the Mirror

Thanks Leaniality and raikenjenova! I truly appreciate the playthroughs. I will start assembling a guide, since some of my friends who played this reported difficulty finding some things. I'll try to get it up ASAP.

I've been playing for an hour or two and this is actually really good. That's all I got right now :p

I'm glad you're enjoying it! Let me know how you like the ending. :)

I'll be happy to answer any questions if you have any.

Start with story or start with world?

To be honest, I don't think it matters. One thing is that the story could be shaped to fit the world, or the world could be shaped to fit the story. If anything, I like Dyhalto's advice: start with a theme and go from there.

Your story and world will change as you flesh it out. And that's perfectly okay. Just get started and write, not worrying about how good it is or if it'll work. Then, go back and adjust. You can always iron out the inconsistencies or parts that don't work well.

An idea for a game

If you're interested in platformers, there's a lot of tools for creating those. There's a popular one called SMBX which creates Super Mario World clones with a bunch of other graphics mixed in. I never used it myself, but it's an idea for something to get started on if you have no programming knowledge.

You technically don't need programming knowledge for a lot of RPGMakers anyway. A lot of it is just point-and-click.
