thanks for the feminism...!
Wouldn't feminists be O-fended by cute female mascots? They'd start some bullcrap like how it's a sexist objectification of women or something. XD

@DBAce9Aura - Oh, nice!

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

A friend of mine got me Sanitarium on GOG. I've only gotten through the Abandoned Innocence chapter so far, but I absolutely love it! ^^

Griever, that is adorable.

Also, I can't say I know which would make more money. And Megaman Legends 3 would have been awesome. I would love to have tried it. But I do agree that there are some, not all, who are watching Capcom like a hawk and blowing things like this out of proportion. Don't get me wrong, I'm irritated with Capcom too, but this Street Fighter Hello Kitty merchandise thing really doesn't have much if anything at all to do with these bad moves they've made. Really, they could easily develop a game AND make the toys given that game designers and toy designers are completely different people who are working seperately on seperate projects. They just happen to be working on behalf of the same company. So saying that they cancelled a game so they could make toys(not all are saying this, but I have seen a few who have) really makes no sense. It's not related in anyway aside from the same company being involved.

You realize that was actually intended to be a shoulder massager.

Sanrio can't really be blamed if other people with other things on their mind found another use for it. Very similar to the Harry Potter broomstick toy. It was meant for kids to pretend to ride around on and be goofy with. But some people realized 'hey this vibrates! I can do something else with it!'

Also part of an article on the product.

When Sanrio found out that the shoulder massager was being sold as a sex toy, they claimed to be disgusted, especially since the Sanrio name and Hello Kitty character were on it. They immediately contacted Genyo Co. and asked them to stop. The Hello Kitty vibrator had at this point gained cult status and was selling like hotcakes and Genyo Co. had no intention of letting a hugely profitable product be taken off the shelf just because people were using it to stimulate other parts than intended. Sanrio tried to revoke Genyo’s licensing rights, but Genyo refused saying they had a valid license that had been approved and had spent much money developing the product.

The fight between the two companies continued until Genyo Co.’s top officials found themselves in tax trouble for some shady business dealings they were involved with. This gave Sanrio the reason they needed to revoke the license and Sanrio took the “shoulder massagers” off the market. The shoulder massagers that were still in outlets were soon bought up and sold as collector items sometimes reaching over $100 on eBay

Am I the only one who'd want to PLAY as Hello Kitty in a fighter?
Don't get me wrong, it would be fun, I think. But it seems more like something a fan might make as a parody rather than an official game produced by Capcom and Sanrio.

The difference being that Ice Climbers and Kirby had to deal with monsters. Hello Kitty was never meant to fight. Just be cute and best friends with everyone. Just another reason I don't see Sanrio letting a game happen.
ROB and Mr. Game & Watch were never meant to fight anything, but they are in that game... Fighting.

As stupid as it may sound, I would actually enjoy beating up Hello Kitty in a fighting game.
They're also not really quite so popular among little three-year-olds. Most kids that young wouldn't even know who these characters are. Much like Snake, they're more of a throwback for older fans from the 80's. So they tend to be more popular with an older audience that would enjoy fighting games.

Not saying that Hello Kitty isn't popular with an older audience, but because smaller children are a large part of the fanbase, Sanrio is likely to be a lot more careful what they do with Hello Kitty.

Not to mention, Smash Bros still targets the same age group as the games the characters are from aside from Solid Snake who is really more of a throwback to the fact that the original Metal Gear was on NES. And that pleases the older fans who have been playing since the 80's. There's also the point that most games made by Nintendo sort of share a fanbase. It's easy to find a game library that contains Zelda, Mario, and Donkey Kong all at once.

So really, it is quite a bit different from if Capcom and Sanrio decided to make a crossover game. Like I said. Costumed figures are one thing. A full on game would be quite another. And it's not very likely.
