RM Games to the Big Leagues??
Just had a completely random thought pop into my head and wanted to see what you guys though about it.
Basically...
What RM Games out there do you think would have a chance at becoming a full-fledged console game? And by this I mean the idea, story, characters, plot, and pretty much everything except the 2D graphics (and possibly the outdated standard RPG battle system, as in replacing it with something new).
2D graphics would naturally be replaced by 3D, unless it's like a DS game or something with intricate, custom sprites.
The immediate games that come to mind are..
The Way
Kinetic Cipher (Again)

Here's some crappy sounding songs I made
Here's some songs I made. Personally I don't think their that good, but I could be being to critical on myself...
They were both made with midi maker and then converted to MP3's using Hamienet.com
"The Unknown"

I DESPERATELY Need Someone to Teach me how to Use Game Maker!!
Please...
Someone help me...
I have the pro version of Game Maker. Why I payed for it, I don't know. But now that I have, I really should use it. The problem is...
IT'S TOO FUCKING COMPLICATED!!
Is there anyone here that knows how to use it well? I'm trying to make a platformer game... (okay, yeah, a mega man-style game)... I just can't get used to it, everything is so weird.
Does anyone know the basics of Game Maker. Maybe can you tell/teach me what most/all of the event commands are and do? I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Point-and-click Adventure Style Game! (or whatever the hell those games are actually called...)
I'm sure many of you folks are familiar with point-and-click adventure style games...
"Shadowgate" for example (for the NES)
Well, that's right, I'm planning on making one! I will admit most of the inspiration IS coming from "Shadowgate", I just love that game!
If you're still dumbfounded, check out this youtube video of the game...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xAVMnNiY3c
Yup. So here's the deal; in order to reduce criticism, I'm not making a "fan game", but the game will be HEAVILY influenced by Shadowgate.
Here's a list of the similarities (or differences) my game will share with "Shadowgate":
- The game will, pretty much, be played exactly like "Shadowgate": point-and-click style gameplay, collect items, and simply just make it to the end.
- I am eliminating torches. You will not die by having you torch burn out, simply because I'm excluding them from the game.
- Except for battle sequences, I will be using music from "Shadowgate"
- I am not excluding automatic deaths (i.e. doing something in the game will get you killed, bringing trial-and-error into the mix.) However, I will attempt to make them more obvious that "Shadowgate" did, hoping it will not be too frustrating. I will have a significantly lower amount of automatic death locations that "Shadowgate", though.
- There will be battle sequences, which will be the main way to get killed. I will be implementing forced battles, in which the player must win to continue on (this does include boss fights), as well as undetermined "random battles". I say undetermined because I'm not sure how "random" they will be just yet.
- There will be cutscenes.
- The game will be divided into 5 chapters. I would like the player to take no more than 10 to 30 minutes getting through each; I will try to not make the game TOO long, that is if you know exactly what to do. The chapter titles are named after the area your exploring...
1 The Catacombs
2 The Castle Part 1
3 The Castle Part 2
4 The Tower
5 The Demon Realm
- In order to be successful in battles, you will need to find new equipment as your journey continues, as well as healing potions.
I'm not exactly sure why I'm putting this in the help and requests forum (please move it if seems necessary)
...except that I'd like you all to give suggestions, tips, and comments. Suggestions or questions mainly.
As soon as I begin to work on it, I will post this in the game adverts and feedback section.

What is your opinion on "Filler"
In many shows, mainly anime, as well as...well, anything that involves a plot-driven story, I suppose, the creator will often times throw in a "Filler Episode" which, if I'm not mistaken, refers to an episode or series of episodes that seemingly do not follow that main plotline or story.
I put seeminly in italics because I sometimes disagree with why they should not exist.
A great example of this is in actually in my favorite anime, Bleach. There are two immediately examples...
(1) The entire Bount arc is usually considered filler because it was not originally in the manga. It was added for the anime only. Because of this, people think It is not needed.
MY OPINION: While I did actually hate the Bount arc strictly because I don't like the Bounts themselves, I don't consider it filler. Why? Because Tite Kubo created it. Enough said. He made the anime/manga, he has the right to do whatever he wants to it. I am a writer and create stories like this myself, so I guess that's where my opinion comes from.
(2) In the middle of the series there was an episode or two that went back to Ichigo's family in the world of the living, which had nothing to do with the conflict going on at the time.
MY OPINION: Hell fucking yes these are filler. WTF!? Why go off on a completely random side-story that doesn't pertain the main characters in some, meaningful way!?. Sure, they are about Ichigo's sisters, but they are unimportant characters; we saw enough of them in the first 10 episodes!
The only type of "filler" I approve of, one that does not pertain to the current conflict at hand, is when it further's character development or a personal character's history. Or something like the bount arc, in which the protagonists are in a conflict with an enemy that does not have to be the main enemy of the series (in Bleach's case, this mean's Sosuke Aizen).
I look at a couple of my stories and I know there are parts that people may consider filler; again, screw you. I created/wrote it, I have the right to do whatever I wish to it.
EDIT: Also, many people consider most of Naruto filler (I don't watch Naruto, so correct me if I'm wrong about this). This is, from what I gather, because the main conflict deals with Orochimaru and Sasuke being evil. After a certain point, they kind of disappear, I think, and a multitude of new enemies and conflicts emerge.
MY OPINION: Not filler. So what if there not dealing with Orochimaru and Sasuke, it's still a legitimate part of the show; shut up and enjoy it. Again, though, I could be wrong about this, but those extra conflicts should't have been like, a shit-load of episodes long (is that right?), I will agree there.
So...
What's your opinion on the matter?

What can I use to make Chiptunes?
I was wondering, if there is a program out there (preferably free, but I may pay for one if I want it that badly) that I can use to make chiptunes?
Like NES style music; Megaman, Zelda, and whatnot?
Do you guys know of any and where I can download them?

Is There an Equivalent Alternative to this Problem...?
A little while back I was having trouble with RM2K3 and a glitch in the DBS I couldn't fix.
I'll put it here, since it's kinda lengthy...
I have not been able to solve the problem.
So, I decided, maybe I should just think of a less glitchy was to do this. With that said, Is there an alternative way for me to implement X's Power Shot into my game, one that won't glitch up...and still makes sense Megaman wise?

I'm having a problem with a glitch that appears in my game "Megaman X: The Return of Wily". If you've played it, you probably know what it is. So this is it.
In battle, if the player goes into their item menu, goes back, and attempts to use X's "Charge" Command, the game glitches and closes itself.
When the "Charge" command is used, it accesses this in-battle event.
<> Play Sound: increase
<> Change Equipment: X Weapon Unequip
<> Change Equipment: X Power Shot Equip
<> Change Condition: X Charge Inflict
<> Call Commont Event: X Used Charge
Let me break it down for you...
First, it plays a sound effect.
Then, it unequips X's weapon, which is "X-Buster"
Next, it equips X with his power shot, so his attack animation will be different.
Then, X is inflicted with the Charge condition, so he will look as if he's charging up a Power Shot.
Finally, the common event changes his battle commands, allowing him to do nothing but fire a Power Shot, use an Item, or Flee.
When it glitches, the message says, "Event referenced and item that does not exist", but I can't quite figure it out. I'm thinking the source is either when it changes X's equipment or when is proceeds to the common event, but I'm not sure.
Is there anyone out there who can help me?

Dragonball: Fans of the anime will be apalled
I just found out about the live-action Dragonball movie coming in April. So I get home and watch the trailer...
Holy...fucking...shit...
Just take a look yourself...
I hope I speak for all hardcore DB/DBZ fans when I say the trailer makes the movie look terrible. Seriously. I know that they are trying to make it look more realistic, but come the fuck on; they've deviated from Akira Toriyama's masterpiece way too much.
I am apalled. Yes, I still will go see the movie. Best case scenario, I actually end up liking it going in with such low expectations and am bewildered. But I highly doubt that will be the case. But...(sigh)...damn.
Here are my complaints...
- 7 "mystics" did NOT create the Dragonballs. Useless there will be a sequel that will explain the true creator of the dragonballs, this is stupid.
- They said they are keeping the "futuristic" look to the cities, yet I beg to differ.
- Bulma's hair is not blue, though while this didn't bother me that much, it still opens up the door for more mistakes to be made by the producers.
- WHERE THE FUCK IS KRILLIN?!?!
- Roshi isn't old enough.
- WHERE THE FUCK IS TIEN!?!?...and I guess Chiaotzu.
I have more complaints, trust me. Let me sort them through and I'll edit this post.
What are your thoughts on the upcoming live-action Dragonball movie?

Does Anyone Not Finish Games They Purchase?
So I'm sure this terrible affliction has befallen some of us here, and that affliction is...
Are there any games you've purchased, for any system/console, that you simply have stopped playing before you beat them?
I hate it when I do this. I REALLY hate it. There a handful of games that I've bought, yet have not finished, games that I like too! Arg! It just really grinds my gears.
So let's compile a list of the games we haven't finished.
Games Mitsuhide_The_Vagrant has bought, yet has not finished.
Advances Wars: Days of Ruin (DS)
Final Fantasy 4 (DS)
Chrono Trigger (DS)
Magical Starsign (DS)
Resident Evil 0 (Gamecube)
Resident Evil: Code Veronica (PS2)
Dynasty Warriors 6 (Xbox 360; haven't unlocked all the characters)
Obviously, this is more common for me on the DS, why, I don't know; that is actually over half of by DS games...tragic.
I'll edit this post if I ever beat any of them.

Anybody Playing Street Fighter 4?
So, yeah...I got Street Fighter 4 yesterday and have played a good bit. I haven't unlocked all the characters yet, but I am enjoying it...well, at least as much as you can enjoy a fighting game.
One of the main things I've noticed so far is that, to me, it is extremely hard. There are, like, 7 difficulty settings: Easiest, Very Easy, Easy, Normal, Hard, Very Hard, and Hardest (I'm not sure if these are correct though). I set it to easy, thinking it was the easiest mode, and yet I got my ass kicked by Seth, the final fight in arcade mode, at least more than 20 times in a row; no joke. By the end of the night I was horrendously pissed, punching the wall, and yelling out obscenities.
Despite this, it's a fun game that lives up to it's predecessors. If your a hardcore Street Fighter fan, go ahead and check this out.
EDIT: I will say though, since it is a fighting game, once you've completed all the challenges and unlocked all the fighters, the game will, more than likely, lose it's appeal. Also, I not sure if this is worth $60, maybe $50, but that's it.
So...what do you guys think of the game? Discuss.
