Game developers that don't... like making games...?

If you knew me in real life, I'm a blazingly passionate guy when it comes to game making. I would gush for hours on end about ideas that could be shoved into a game. The idea of creating games excites me to no end. Which is why some recent events really confused me.

School has a mandatory internship module, so I've been interning at an indie game studio for about 2 months now. I thought I would be having a ball of a time, I've been waiting for this moment my whole life. But I've never felt so out of place.

During lunch breaks trying to chat with people I came to realize nobody here really likes making games. So far what I've heard from them is 'It's just a job'. The games they're making doesn't seem to be built on ideas they think are fun, but ideas they think that work out so far and they're tacking it on. No one here really discusses the game or has remotely any hype about it.

I'm in a perpetual state of disbelief. Games are such a fun medium, I didn't think anyone who got into the industry and stayed there would continue thinking 'it's just a job'. But now I know people like this do exist.

I know it's probably unprofessional to gripe about a job I'm being paid for but it's... it's a big culture shock to me. From being around RMN and other sites, I expected the world out there to be 'This game is great!' and 'Let's work together to make this!' I know that probably I wouldn't always meet people who are as passionate, who wouldn't spazz over E3 uncontrollably like I would, but I didn't expect apathy towards it. Maybe my hopes were set wayyy too high.

What do you guys think about the thought of a portion of the game industry just in it for the lucrative market over the enjoyment of making something exciting?
My best friend once warned me 'If you make something you love your job, you will come to hate the thing you love' and I fear that. Do you think out there, it's true?

Man. Jobs are scary.

[RMVX ACE] RPG Maker VX Ace Deluxe Difference

Is the Luna Engine in the bundle a more updated version than the one we can buy from the web store though?

Just watched Avengers: Age of Ultron and it was just okay

I felt that Avengers 2 was just a fanboy-present to the fans of the comics.
I didn't get anything in the movie more than half the time.
Vision appearing out of nowhere.
Iron Man blowing up all his suits in Iron Man 3 and still getting a new one.
(yea Iron Man really lost coolness once he had so many suits in Iron Man 3 and he just started treating them all as expendable)

And I think my biggest quip was
Captain America being OP now
Back then he was just like a super buff guy that used an indestructible shield, fought enemies with tactics and smarts that you don't see from Iron Man or the Hulk with their super punches and laser beams.
In Winter Soldier he still had to defend from bullets with his shield.
In Avengers 2 he dropped his shield and took an Ultron laser to the chest and brushed it off like it was nothing, and punched Ultron bots into bits in one hit.

Also if the mini-bots are just Ultron's consciousness copied into all the bots why would they freak out and run away while he didn't.

I have so many gripes over this movie cos' I looked forward to it so much.
Hawkeye was the best part of the movie being the 'most powerless' one but kicked the asses of enemies that kicked everyone else's ass.

What's your day job? Talk about it!

Don't know if it counts as a job, but I'm interning at an indie game company at the moment.

Outside of that I part-time at kids events where I am the gatekeeper of the Bouncy Castle and I get to tell kids when to get in and get out.

So... IGMC 2015

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA browsing through some of the crazy entries are one of the activities in IGMC I enjoy the most.

How well do you think a Simulation RPG game would do within the 1 hour time limit...?

So... IGMC 2015

Seems like more veterans will be in the competition because of all the other engines available.

But at the same time, I think the number of newbie RPG Maker entries would be less, because RPG Maker was a lot cheaper in the previous IGMC.

[RMVX ACE] How to export an RPG maker VX Ace to play in android?

Last I heard, the Terms and Conditions of RPGMaker doesn't allow exporting to any platform other than PC... so they could be doing something illegal...?

I did wonder myself sometimes, when I stumble across quite a few mobile games that seem to be made with RPG Maker. Hope someone can clarify.

EDIT: Or was it that RPG Maker needed Windows files to play, and would require a substantial amount of modification to work on any other platform, which would need you to modify the files within RPG Maker and thus going against the T&C?

So... IGMC 2015

AAAAAARGH, I WANT TO ENTER AGAIN THIS YEAR BUT I'M INTERNING
WILL I HAVE TIME

McBacon Jam #1

@CashmereCat:

( I have flair for UI? Since when? XDDD )

Archeia's being really chugging through most of the heavy stuff, UI, sprites and scripts, while Marimo's been arting lots of amazing stuff.

These two are so amazing, all I did was a few characters, I'm barely keeping up! :P
The appreciation should be redirected where it's due ^^;;;
