New Persona 5 Teaser

Going to TGS via school trip to see them showing it in person RAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I, for one, would like to have a slightly more gritty setting. I liked Persona 3 over Persona 4 because of the theme of it, that you could have lively characters in a dark setting.

Well, sure, I mean, Persona 4 did have the whole murder thing going on, but it felt kind of detached to the story. Like 'oh no, people died. Let's play at the basketball club yayyy'

Still, as one of the last surviving bastions of turn-based RPGs on console platforms, I hope whatever it has can still survive in the harsh environment increasingly being tailored to real-time battles.

How DO you price your work?

I've always wanted to start doing commissions and opening an art shop, but I never really figured out how to price my artwork, so I kept putting it off and never got to it.
(I did have a small art shop on Gaia Online but that was ages ago lol)

I'm still schooling, so I barely find time to hit up RPG Maker, but I'm sure I'd be able to wiggle out some time to do concept art or face/bust shots, so I thought it'd be a good use of my small amounts of time every day. The idea of being like an artist mercenary-for-hire for projects is pretty cool too HAHAHAHA

How do you guys price your works? Do you ever worry about being too expensive or too cheap? Is there like a benchmark?

Tumblr - How does it work?

Tumblr is a great way to waste time and procrastinate by reblogging funny pics lol

If you'd like, my art blog's http://nivlacart.tumblr.com
but I'm always open to people following my personal blog
http://itz-nivlac.tumblr.com too.

Beginners Unite! Lets make a game!

A few words of advice, macblo.
Gotta take note that nobody is ever JUST the 'idea guy'.
You got ideas? So does that programmer, and the artist, and the spriter, and the mapper. Get to the back of the line.

These were words told to me by a Game Designer at a seminar, it really struck a chord.

I know the feeling though, everyone after playing a game would at least once in their life go 'I could do that.' I'm no different, that's why I'm here.
But the thing is: life isn't like a video game where you have a finite amount of skill points to add in various game designy stats. "Oh I'm sure that artist probably has like zero points in story writing."

Game Design's a dream world, being able to create any world you want with any rules you desire and any characters you see fit. But it's not a wish granter, or a vending machine you insert idea coins in and get a fizzy can of perfect JRPG. To survive in this world, you have to be able to create. Anyone can have ideas. But when it comes to making a game, only the people with skills to make it come to life are worth keeping around.
Partly also because they know how hard it is to create that their ideas would probably be more sound.

Granted there are a few specialist story writers in the industry, but man if you've seen their work, it's definitely a lot, a LOT more than your typical novel-ish Microsoft Word document. Every detail, every quirk, thorough enough to build the exact image they have in their mind in yours. The amount of practice they've gone through to make their ideas stand out much more than anyone else's is hellish; it actually seems a lot easier to pick up programming or starting to practice art.

It's a good thing you recognized your folly, macblo. Next time, be more conscious of your skillset. Hopefully soon you would've come up with something amazing.

tl;dr Don't make other people create your thing for you, do some of it yourself.

Your First Game

I had made tons of paper and pen games (played kinda Dungeons and Dragons like) but my first game was probably a side scrolling game called Dragon Escape made with Game Maker on a school trip to a school that taught Game Design and was holding a small course.

Flying dragon that can shoot fireballs, travel through mazes, dodge hazards, fight bosses which were sprites taken from Fire Emblem.

I was so proud of it. I even made a sequel. Maybe that was what started it all the way to here LOL

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

Designing and modelling out a character for my school's Studio Project. Supposed to finish the whole project by end of next week. Hopefully I can rig it and make a gameplay video or something with it in time cos' so behind time XDD

What are you thinking about? (game development edition)

Now I'm thinking of a game where the importance of debilitation replaces magic elements.

I've always hated how bosses in all RPGs are immune to status ailments.
So I'm trying to figure out how to make debuffs feasible as a common form of fighting.

Under the Dog Anime Kickstarter

They aren't doing very well with the fundraising.

Just imagine, you, with creative ideas and huge passion, trying to share them with the world but no one would fund it enough to get to appreciate it.

I'd give up. That's terrifying.
So I contributed lol

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

author=nurvuss
I hear Chaos Rings is a decent Mobile RPG series. I cannot vouch for it myself, as I find playing games on my Android phone to be too much of a hassle. It's made by Media.Vision, who developed the Wild Arms games back in the day.

I spent most of my weekend playing the newly-released Tales of Xillia 2. Yeah, it's not fantastic. Battle system is as fun as ever, and I expected the recycled content, but every time the plot seems to be getting interesting and daring, it plays it safe and goes in a lighthearted direction.

The new main character doesn't have much rapport with the old cast, and it seems like they're just sort of tagging along with shaky motivations for doing so, rather than really having a reason to join him.

Chaos Rings is a really good RPG on the phone, although there isn't much content and it is bloody easy. It's also pretty pricey.
It's probably one of the best games on the mobile network... although considering most games on the mobile network are pretty bad... there isn't much competition.
(if only RPG Maker games could export to the phone market :\\\)

I was planning on getting Tales of Xillia and Xillia 2, but I had my doubts ever since playing Tales of Graces with its bad storyline and terrible I-have-to-save-everyone main character. I kinda lost faith in Tales' ability to deliver, which is upsetting considering that I FKING LOVED Tales of Eternia back in the day. Would you recommend it?
