OWMEEYE'S PROFILE

Hello! I'm OwMeEye, I played with rpg maker 98(or 95, don't remember), 2000, 2k3, vx ace..., make your own estimate as for how long. Not so much of the others (a tiny bit of XP, but it's barely worth mentioning)

I felt like starting something completely new so, this year I'm learning to voice act a bit, gaining a pretty-sounding voice, and speaking to the crowds, so, follow me on my twitter and youtube

I also played with wolf rpg editor, flash, html5, unity... a little bit.
Haha, I also know some ruby and javascript and some other languages...
I can also draw, I mainly use sai and photoshop, but also used gimp and inkscape, inkscape is pretty cool for vector art. Pixelart is cool but it takes too much time to draw. If I know you, I might share one thing or another, but I probably won't.
I know how to use blender, a bit, I like blender, but my pc doesn't like it, cause it's an old pc.
I mostly try to use open source and free stuff.
I can make music, I'm ok at it, but I'm no pro.
I can also write stories, but I'm not good at writing long stories.

I'm pretty good at some of the above, and so-so at the rest. I also used to visit renpy forums a lot (also know some python), but under a different nickname. I can do many things, but that is a story for another time and another place.

I bring you two more parts of the let's play, part 24 and 25

This aside, I have just finished playing this game. I did a long playing session of 10 hours and finished it up, I think with about 56 h clocked on the save file. The ending was amazing as expected.

I watched through most of the bedroom scenarios, the only ones I didn't watch were, i think, The two greyger scenarios with him and with the other succubus. And one or two scenarios with Azriele.

Also, I found all the scenarios except the second scenario on the first page, any help on where I can get that scenario?

I completed the final battles in the castle with pandora at lv 37. The battle against athena was rendered extremley easy once i switched from lanith(only used her for story's sake really) to demora(she makes every battle easy). Use magic reflect every turn and athena kills herself super easily. Clashes a little bit with the dramatic plot when pandora says how she can't defeat athena, but in both phases she can be easily defeated by just having Demora constantly cast the anti magic.

Castle was a bit unfinished, and what was with the angel construct defending an empty bedroom? I guess it's the unfinished part of the game? There was also a glitchy sprite of some guy inside the castle, you'll see on the video XD.

Nonetheless I went back proceeded to the final battle and it was pretty great. Although I agree that more closure would be nice with the heroes in the dungeon, the nun and guy who was sent to roam the abyss, or even something like, lanith finding out what happened to her little sister, so things like that would be really nice.

That said, the game was amazing, and the ending was pretty great. The after-ending made me feel sorry for Lumielle, hope we get to help her out in the next game? :)
For the whole game I was very invested in the characters and the story too, including a bunch of the npc's. It also posed some fun philosophical questions, which is always nice.

Will take me a while before I get to upload all the videos.

Be careful dude, posting more than one time in a row is against the site rules, and it looks like you have 3 there. If you want to add something before someone had posted after your latest post, you can edit your previous post and add to it. I just don't want the powers that be dropping the hammer on you.

Heh nope, sorry. The only orbs in the games are key items, and they shouldn't be able to be bought or sold. I've fixed the second issue you mentioned for the ultimate version. Strangely enough, I like the slime quest the way it is now. It's designed so that the player won't grind up draughts and become super OP until a certain point in the game.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to scrambling for my life to get this bacon jam project done.

Been trying to avoid multi-posting myself. Which wasn't too hard, cause it's easier to post less.

I've been playing further and you know, sometimes there are stories written in such a way that they move me emotionally at a really deep level, this are rare gems to me, and your game certainly has done that many times. Just went through the 3 Serene dungeon scenarios an oh my, that was emotionally powerful.

That aside, I have 4 more videos of the let's play here

I think I already have a backlog of like 20 episodes, but uploading many hours daily just isn't a great idea, so it has to be this way. Btw this game is really long, my save file already shows like 37 hours. I mean, I know I have been taking my sweet time, milking every single piece of dialogue I can find, but I am curious how long this game is. I guess if I were to deduce from the amount of locations, then I think I only have like hmm, a few more locations to explore. I think there are the two forests, the demon's gauntlet which is still closed, the capital city, that other place west of Reddin and I think there was still one cave or something. So it would seem I am slowly getting closer to the finish line? But I'd predict that with my current pace I still have at least 15 more hours to go. That is, unless there are many other locations beside the human realm which I don't yet know about. I am convinced by now that this is the most impressive rpg maker game I've seen. And the amount of detail and length, and the quality of writing, easily compares to the best cult rpgs I've played.

Writing which can get me invested and move me emotionally was always something that I care very strongly about, and your game delivers splendidly. You are an excellent writer.

I agree with what you mentioned earlier that the version that I'm playing may encourage a bit too much grinding. I've been grinding quiet a bit just to get my various summons up to level 20 when pandora is level 30. And it's even more so because some of the summons require a lot more exp to level up than the human characters do.

Also, demora's party status shielding skill feels way overpowered. It's hard to justify using any other summon for group battles when demora can immunize all statuses, and on top of that with another skill to reflect spells, it's pretty extreme. Also managed to trap demora once in an infinite loop battle between her and the mosquito in the arena, it reminded me of the epic pokemon magicarp vs magicarp battle ;p I cast the regeneration thing on demora, her attack is super week, every turn she auto heals, the mosquito attacks her for about 70 damage (and heals itself with it), battle goes on forever, neither of them can outdamage the constant regeneration, there is no way to get any of the killed. I got bored of it after about 15 minutes ;p had to restart the game to stop it, but it was pretty funny.

But it will take a bit of time before I get to upload those episodes ;p

The power balancing is a bit weird. I think so far the battle against Odin was the hardest, but then the heroes were fairly simple, and then the thief after that was super easy and gave me less exp. Doesn't stop the game from being amazing. Haha, I hope the ending isn't to depressing cause all the characters are pretty lovable, both the protagonists and the antagonists, well, most of them.

And the next part is up, part 19, in which I learn about the joys of being a necromancer, and experience the joys of impersonating the ghostbusters. Fun :)

Oh don't worry, I'm not going to mess with the stats that much, I just want bosses to pose more of a threat and have a little more staying power. I'm not touching that one battle with you-know-who though. That guy is as tough as nails, probably one of the hardest bosses in the game.

Chrono Cross was brutally hard for me, since I usually overlevel myself in order to win. In that game, you couldn't really grind up levels, which is what eventually caused me to quit. You win this time, evil talking cat man. On the plus side, the battle system and attack animations were downright cool.

Heh heh, you gotta be patient with that room and use shift to run at the end, or you'll end up french fried, as I'm sure you learned. And to think I believed I was being generous with how long it took for those fire pits to flare up.

Difficulty is indeed a hard thing to gauge, as different players have different skill levels and ways of playing, but I'll tell you right now that you are currently hilariously overleveled. I'm surprised you were able to gather up so many summons before even heading to Lindale. I hate overpowered enemies myself, especially one's that can kill you in a single hit. The healing in Umbral Soul is extremely limited, so I took care not to make any one enemy capable of one-shotting your party unless you're extremely underleveled.

Still, I'm glad you're able to take a breather from bring eaten in one gulp by random treasure chests, and even gladder (that's a word, right?) that you continue to be entertained.

So yeah don't worry, I don't plan on giving this game the Dark Souls treatment, but I do plan on providing players who want a bit more challenge with an opportunity to test their skills.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I always have a good laugh when you criticize Ranarok and Pandora for their stupidity.

Never played chrono cross so I cannot speak about that one. But after playing chrono trigger a few times, my current tactics of playing that game is reach the mountain where I find the item to cut my MP usage by 75%, put it on chrono, and then grind the monsters there for a hour or two until chrono can cast luminaire... and then I can one shot kill most things for the rest of the game without taking damage because chrono also gets pumped up with speed so he starts every battle first and spams luminaire to one-shot-kill every group of enemies...

I'm not surprised I am overleveled in Umbral Soul, I'm a completionist, I want to be through when I play and I want to find and do everything I can and to explore as much of a game as I can (if I like the game anyway), so it's not so much me wanting to overlevel due to the enemy encounters (with my current levels, they have mostly been a breeze to me, and I do feel I am overleveled), but more due to the fact that I want to solve every single sidequest as it comes along. I feel I will be grinding a lot for the slime-evolution-instructor-battle quest, been working on that one currently (although I don't know how far I would have to over-level that slime to defeat a dragon, even after I got it evolved to it's final form it seems like it will need a dozen more levels to defeat that dragon... may give up on it for now and revisit that quest later). But I want to finish that sidequest now that I can evolve, so it feels like I have to grind my slime to do that, but I cannot level up the slime without leveling up the rest of the party. If anything, I feel this is the issue. Even the experience item gives exp to the whole party rather than one character. So, to level the slime up to level 15 I had to over-level pandora and damien and they are already at level 25. Personally I would prefer to have a more balanced party if possible. Maybe an item which gives experience but only to a single party member rather than all of them? (There's the other items which increases you by a whole level, but I can't buy that one)

I definitely feel like I keep overleveling pandora because I want to level up the other characters or pandora's summons. I also notice that experience in your game is very linear. Fighting the wasp encounters from the initial forest, if you include the massive 350 gold you get for ambrosia, and the character who sells you the 600 exp for every party member items for 500 gold, fighting these encounters ends up giving you... potentially more experience than any other enemies in any other dungen further on, even 25 hours into the game, with the exception of the enemies which drop demonite or whatever it was called (worth 425 gold), maybe that needs to be balanced more? I thought that item was a one-person exp thing, and I still felt fighting the bees was giving as much exp as the encounters 20 hours later into the game, but now that I learned that it's actually a whole party exp thing, It feels like I should go back to grind the bees even more...

If I do a little math here, a group of bees has the potential to drop me 700 gold plus I think 120 exp.
If I do some simple math here, fighting a single group of bees has the potential of granting me 700g/500g(cost of potion)*600ex(from the potion)=840xp + 120(?) of direct exp, that's a potential 960 exp for each of my 4 characters from a single wasp encounter! And, because this is a whole party exp thing it forces me to overlevel pandora as long as I want to solve the sidequests which require my summons to be leveled up (plus I'm curious what their skills will be or what they will evolve into etc. so I'm inclined to level them up, but pandora is forced to also level up.) Defeating the ghosts actually gives you less potential exp, but it's a more consistent exp because the 700 2x ambrosia drop from wasp/bee doesn't happen every time. I think the crystal demon things were something like 600xp + the 425 gold demonite drop (sometimes 2x) but I'm not allowed to revisit that location. What I would really enjoy seeing is some system to use all these drops to craft something rather than just sell them. I already have like 30 ambrosias, 20 demonite and my net worth from just these two items is like 20 000 gold. And I have a bunch of other items too. The gold from the other items feels very low compared to these two items. For example ectoplasm (already have 40 of those...) is only 87 gold despite being a fairly late drop, and the enchanged stone/earth from golems is worth even less.

I'll also grant you that given difficulty in games, I prefer to play them either on easy or normal, I very rarely see games which I would like to play on "hard". In that sense I feel I'm more of a casual player rather than a hardcore one. You could always attempt to have a difficulty setting of some sort, although that may be a lot of work to implement, especially in rpg maker. I browsed and there are a couple of difficulty setting and enemy levels related scripts out there for rpg maker ace, you could always test if one of those doesn't work.

Evil truly is stupid sometimes, and I've enjoyed berating it for it XD, but to be fair the good is often even dumber. I'm curious to find out more backstory on why Ragnarok hates Lumielle so much.

Skylide-Yeah, backtracking tanks. A lot of rpg elements like having poison persist after battle are traditions that have been carried throughout countless games, yet I've always found them annoying rather than fun. My rule is, it I don't think it's fun, it's not making it into my game, tradition or not. I'm making leveling up and acquiring gold easier in the next version, since it can be a little tedious in the current one. But hey, I'm thrilled you're having fun!

reggird- Congrats on beating the game! Bust out the confetti! Break open the champagne! Microwave the celebratory pizza bagels! "One of the best rpg maker games you've played in your life," huh? People keep saying that, but I can't believe them. My brain can't process that level of joy, so it just defaults to disbelief instead.

I had that bug with the shift button brought to my attention a little while ago. I think what I'll do is scrap insight and have Ragnarok reveal info on each enemy from the beginning of the game. It'll be like carrying an evil, fiery, one-eyed player's guide with you wherever you go.

About that last scenario...

After completing the succubus sidequest, talk to the black haired woman outside the inn in Arcfall to unlock it.

And about the...

Kraken. Yes, attacking twice a turn is the Kraken's gimmick.

Seems like people grinded up to unanticipated levels, which made most enemies a breeze. In the next version, Pandora won't have her healing spell, and the bosses will be tougher, so it won't be quite as breezy. In general, I want players to rely more on their summons in the future.

Soo...sorry about that gaping hole in your soul, but there's more content on the way, so you can look forward to playing that. Thank you both for making what was already an awesome night even better!

guillaume- Whoa dude, spoilers! If you're going to talk about major story elements, you need to hide them in a tab. To hide part of a comment, highlight whichever part you'd like to hide and hit the third form the last icon. It's the eye with the red line going through it. If you could hide that first comment of yours, I'd appreciate it.

Of course we can avoid that problem entirely if you just send all your questions through e-mail like you did before. I'd rather not discuss plot points on the game page anyway, but sending me an email is always fine.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I'm surprised someone finally recognized Ran!

Glad I"m playing this version then, cause I've had more than enough unreasonably difficult rpg maker games lately, this game is providing a great release of all my bottled frustration from the other games with random encounters which constantly one-hit kill my characters even after an hour grinding. Really, If I would want to play I Wanna Be The Guy then I would play that >.> Seriously, I made a thread on a forum and in half of the games there's been annoying tedious grind followed up by sudden death mimics pretending to be chests, and me having to redo chunks of gameplay, not fun! I wouldn't call your battles easy, to me they've been just the right level of difficulty to have fun while playing. I think the epic boss battle with Reinhart was the most difficult so far.

Granted, if I want to keep the comparison to chrono trigger going, then chrono boss battles did certainly kill me, I think I died a couple of times in most of chrono trigger's boss battles. So maybe if you added a bit more difficulty it would still be ok, hard to say. Buuut, it's really hard for me to imagine these battles without pandora's group heal, they weren't exactly easy (except a few of them). Also, I have been enjoying a bit of grinding in your game, because the grinding here feels very rewarding and not very tedious.

The only weird segment so far was the fire temple, I haven't died a single time up to that point, and then I died like 10 times in a random fire puzzle. Not exactly difficult, but a bit out of the blue.

Difficulty is a tricky thing, sometimes frustrating difficulty can be engaging and in a sense fun, but it's tricky to do, and it's easy to go a step too far. For example I think I played through the whole VVVVV, which was super frustrating at times, but kept me engaged enough (but also it's a short game, can be finished in a few hours, and if you have a game where difficulty continues for a long while it starts to grind on you until your frustration is too much and you ragequit, and your game is really long.)

Another game which I found frustratingly difficult but in a fun way was Fortune Summoners, the enemies there, very frustratingly vicious to battle, but struggling against them kept me engaged.

Both of these games were action platforms.

Btw, here's more videos. Includes pandora's and lanith's cuddly backstory which was a lovely breath of fresh air in between all the unfolding tragedy, solving of the legendary monster egg quest and bird issues, and entering the haunted crypt.

rhb84- Note to self. Cross off "annoyingly difficult sound puzzle" from the checklist of my next rpg.

Bungholio- Thanks for the tip off about the chimera, bro. Being a completely unreasonable perfectionist, I'd want to write entirely new dialogue for Rozalin if I were to make her a permanent character, which would mean adding at least another 16 scenes to the game based on the player's party combination. In hindsight, I do wish there was a way to give Rozalin more screentime, since she's one of my favorite characters.

guillaume- Shops, weapons and armor are all crutches for weak heroes, so I made them intentionally bad. A real villain can claim victory using their own resources, and their own strength.

I almost forgot. Ragnarok can speak to anyone telepathically through their darkness, much in the same way Lumielle used to speak with humanity.

Owmeeye- Ha! Wow, you're really getting into the world, aren't you? I've spotted some more glitches thanks to your let's play, which I've already fixed for the next version. Thanks again for posting this awesome series.

Two more parts of the let's play today ^_^ Playing with slime and entering the Abyss.

Yeah, I've gotten quite into it, the game is very engaging. It's possibly the best rpg maker game I've every played, out of a 100 or so. And as for what I've seen so far, right now I feel out of all similar styled rpgs the only ones that I still feel are better are chrono trigger and golden sun, but your game is quite close behind. The writing in your game is quite phenomenal, but what really makes a masterpiece is all the little touches that most people miss in creation.

All the little details, like letting me skip walking when I finish a boss (and often I'm still asked about it), when I defeat the quest and then the book becomes my weapon. The puzzles which are just the right size, grinding which is done in a fun and engaging way, battles don't take too long or too short. Different locations on the map having hero's graves and memorials. All the little story elements which flow one from another in a logical way, a little girl who talks about her imaginary friend, but then you meet the boy who is not imaginary. The writing is excellent, the music really fits the scenes.

The maps are full of details yet they aren't needlessly spacious, but they aren't tiny either, it's all really well polished. It's done in nice, subtle way as well, the necromancers who gradually become insane and kill their friend, but then in the dungeon we have this ghost who is trying to posses pandora multiple times, it feels like it is that killed girl. We have these souls deteriorating but trying to hold on. We have nicely set up skills, like having a special skill which takes lots of TP but lets you freeze bosses for a short while. We have these really dramatic backstories and visions of the past. We have a party full of creatures which feel very unique and with unique skills, a wasp which is defensive, or a succubuss which has skills that only work on males. And then we get that really cute scene with pandora's and lanith's and bed stories. The flavor, the detail, damn, even stuff like having little ceiling lamps (?) in classrooms.

Or the fact that a nun from earlier revisits me and stops me on the way to the school to point me towards a side-quest, it's wonderful detail. For that matter, I have not yet felt lost at any point of the game, you do a wonderful job at leading me along the way, while still allowing me to roam around to a degree. Never felt lost, and the puzzles were never too long or to tedious so far, and that is not an easy thing to do.

I've been enjoying a lot about this game, and I've been enjoying this game loads. Probably the only thing that I'm missing in this game is some elaborate crafting systems which would let me use all those items that I'm gathering from monsters, because I really love crafting systems... I loved that about rune factory.

Haha, chrono trigger wins when it comes to writing/plot ;p but that's a pretty high bar there. Yes, I just compared to chrono trigger :D. And golden sun has worse writing than your game (but it scores points for stuff like, allowing me to use skill to read people's minds and hidden thoughts and doing all sorts of other fun stuff), more importantly it has better puzzles, golden sun had some damn good puzzles, if a bit on the tough side. Your game is really well written, and writing is always very important for my engagement. It may not be chrono trigger, but it is still an amazing game! Your dramatic writing is absolutely excellent, and excellently combined with music as well. What I'm saying is, your game is comparable to my two fav rpg's of all times! I think it's that's good. You went well beyond a "good" game. This depth of detail and effort is a rarity.

Hmm, the fact that the characters really are evil and tend to be massive assholes does tire a little over time, but it is at the same pretty refreshing to have and the excellent writing makes counteracts this. I do wish at times the game would give me more control and stop with all the "but thou must" from Ragnarok whenever I want to check some place out. But the excellent writing, again, counteracts this, as well as the enjoyment of playing with all the different summons and their different abilities. The amount of work and effort you put into this game is phenomenal! Also, it seems like your game is reaaaaaly long, no idea how long this game is, but, it seems like I'm still far away from the end (currently at the school of magic / tower with golems)

I will have yet to see how the story unfolds and where it will go to. As of right now I think I'm something like 25 hours into the game, and I only want to play even more.

I will say that while I don't want to flood with videos, I have already recorded 18 (uploaded 10) cause the game is really engaging and makes me want to play more. The amount of dialogues and all those little descriptions in this game is extreme, and I try to go through every single one, including chatting every person multiple times to milk it all for my entertainment :3 That backstory with lanith reading pandora bedstories that comes later was really adorable and very refreshing given the constant tragedy and evilness everywhere ;p Also, on another, evil really is stupid, and that will become a constant trope of this let's play further on XD With me constantly calling ragnarok an idiot. Also, I shall never stop berating Pandora for stupidly sinking down a ship with 5000 of my gold, and that's after she was complaining about it being a lot of gold. Pandora, you idiot!

lol XD

OwMeEye- Thanks man! Your let's play has been so thorough it's allowed me to catch spelling errors I didn't notice before, so you've already been a huge help. Unfortunately, helping kindly townsfolk is a job for a hero, and your party is kind of...you know, evil. (Or at the very least, severely misguided.)

And yeah, Ragnarok is like that one nanny who keeps you from eating anything with sugar in it and spoonfeeds you castor oil instead. I've been following your channel like a chick following a momma duck, loving every moment of your videos.

gothicmiriel- Grettings flgkshjnlhlrnhkbfaglk gal! (I feel like there should be a superheroine with that name somewhere.) I'm glad I was able to help introduce your friend to the wonderful world of rpg maker games. There's only about a billion of them out there, many of them are a lot of fun, and the best part is...most of them are my personal favorite price; $0.00! (tax included)The Fairy Tail music can be a little subtle, so here's a list of what I used.

"Celestial Spirit World Into Chaos"

"Dark Future"

"Tartaros"

"Fierce Fight of the Force of Mortality"

That show has some jammin' music. The sound clips I used for the demon lord came from the same voice actor who played Zeref in the english dubbed version of Fairy Tail, as well as Tales of Xillia 2's Chronos.I hope you continue enjoying the game, and feel free to ask any more questions you might have.

The game is very bug free for the most part, which is impressive given the size. I do come upon some rare bug sometimes, but nothing big. I have a few episodes recorded in advance currently, will continue to upload one per day. Hope you continue to have fun watching it like I'm having fun playing it ^_^

Here's part 5 and 6 of my let's play
In which I explore Riddin, and favn over every piece of it ;p

Your writing is really amazing in all the cities, I've recorded a couple of episodes in advance cause I want to play more, and haha, it really is a problem, cause all the people have their little lives and stories, you make me really want to help them all with their little problems... but Pandora just responds with snark and depression, and Ragnarok tells me no wehenver there is something fun to do XD Curses. I want to help all these villagers cause they are so nice XD (they keep inviting me to dinner and stuff and most of them are really nice people...) Like that sick little child and the the child who is sleeping, and the vendor who can't sell his wares cause of bandits.. even if he's an asshole. Or that family which can't get place in the inn... And that town with flower monsters taking care of a garden, it's all so nice. Almost every villager has his little story, and it's all very captivating and makes me care for them.

Of course our party of villains too, cause they all have these deeply emotional tragic stories, I want to make them feel better hah. Also I concluded that Ragnarok sucks at everything, he gets defeated by heroes, he can't cook, he forges shitty weapons and shitty armor that causes as much damage as a crappy soldier sword... ;p And even after 200 years he still hasn't learned that he should explore every location and every sidequest to gather more power, he nags, whines, and blocks me whenever I try to go somewhere or do something which he feels is a waste of time. haha, he needs to be more open minded or he is going to be vanquished again and he will only have himself to blame.

Ahaha, but, without further ado, here's the videos in case you're not following me on my channel.
