PROFESSOR_Q'S PROFILE

I've been a fan and follower of RPG Maker games of all sorts since 2012. My all-time favourite has to be "Love and War: Act I", closely followed by "The Way" and "Romancing Walker". (Yes, I'm weird that way!)

I'm not particularly good at game design, though I can write plot-lines reasonably well. While waiting for the rest of Love and War to come out, I've also written three full-length stories set in the Love and War universe, which you can read over at the Love and War forums. (I go by Professor Q over there, surprise, surprise!)

I also enjoy reviewing games, though I tend to write about games I enjoyed playing. If a review of mine sounds critical, it's meant to spur the developer to do better.

I'm also experimenting with RPG Makers XP and VX, so watch this space.

Legends of an Otherworld

This game looks very interesting. I'll have to check this out, even if the "high difficulty" description scares me a little... ^_^ (I belong to the Chrono Cross school of RPG design, for better or worse!)

Date Knights

Hmm, a rogue character called Armin? I'm getting me some Love and War flashbacks! ^_^

Nevertheless, I'm definitely taking a look at the finished product. Sounds like fun. =)

The Sun Is A Star

Looks interesting, I shall have to check this out. ^_^

Ah yes, Odin. Many a fine player has fallen to the wrath of his mighty beard, it's how he generates all that static electricity. I have confidence you'll be victorious in the end, though. Thanks for the props Prof, I hope you enjoy yourself all the way up to the end, and be sure to let me know if you have any issues.

And at last - victory! (It took me two tries, but that's part of the fun.) ^_^

The trick was taking an underlevelled Marcus out of the party and swapping in Damien. He's a sneaky little brat, but also a very entertaining one.

Who would've thought the mighty Odin was
that susceptible to poison?

Now Razielle is throwing a snit because one of his servants was kidnapped. Good guys Bad guys off to the rescue!

Umbral Soul

So I decided to start playing this game, and I couldn't put it down once the actual "gameplay" started.

And then I ran into a brick wall of "white magic" known as Odin. Managed to get him down to the last bit of his energy bar when - WHAM! - he hits me with That One Attack, and my entire party goes down.

I shall prevail next time! Kudos, Mr. Zero. ^_^

Adventure game with a heavy emphasis on plot. There are a few fights but they are extremely easy. From what I saw in the demo it is very linear but there are a handful of puzzles here and there. I've played a few other games on this site that are similar to this, though this game is rather basic. Not a bad game though, and if it does get finished I might want to play it.

Thanks a lot for the feedback!

I am working on making the game a little less "basic", and the fights do get a little more complex later on, but otherwise you've pretty much nailed it.

Things are going a little slower than I planned, but it will be finished someday....not too late, I hope. ^_^

Heroes of Alore

Oh yes, I'm checking this out. ^_^

One Of You

Checking this out now! ^_^

Wow...that was awesome. You've got a serious talent for writing.

Edit: Dag-nabit, that was supposed to be under the blog! Humbug.

Thanks a lot!! =) Inspiration sometimes strikes; at other times, I just have to plod on. Hopefully the writing in the game will be more of the former! ^_^

I'm very sorry for the late reply. I've never thought that I'll get a comment here. I've read your review and yeah, it is heartbreaking, but you are right. This game, until now, is too similar with To The Moon. Even though, it was inspired by To The Moon, I agree that it's not good to create something too similar to another game. I've realized my mistakes and I'll try to change the design of this game, but the feeling of the opening will still the same in this current version. Geez, I wish I'd read your review earlier. I guess, that'll be on my to do list in the next development process.

For the translation, it has got so many fixes in the grammar error. I have a translator now.

Thank you very much for your review.

Dear flakeheartnet, I'm sorry if my review has caused you heartbreak. I suppose I made one major error in writing it - not underlining the positives in your game. For what it's worth, here they are:

1. Excellent graphics.
2. Custom user interface, not the usual RTP / RPG Maker menu system
3. Smooth transitions and effects.
4. No unnecessary lag or slow controls despite the complexities involved.
5. Andrew's sister Sonia seems like an interesting character.

That being said, I'm glad you took my words in the spirit in which they were intended. This is all the more important because you're planning to make a commercial game. If this were a free fan-game or tribute, I wouldn't really be bothered - witness all the Final Fantasy and Yume Nikki fangames that gain accolades by the dozen in the RPG Maker community. But a commercial game is something that has to be original and distinctive (ideally, free games should work that way too, but this isn't an ideal world ^_^), otherwise it will simply get lost in the mix and dismissed by reviewers as "a To The Moon clone".

Good luck with your game! I look forward to seeing how it's going to progress from here, and I remain a subscriber.
