Triple Triad Minigame - I am at a loss (Help?)

author=InfectionFiles
Maybe this is too small a prize or if it's even viable for this game but what about stuff for your room? Like pretty superficial stuff, giant snorlax, big nice game system or tv's, dolls or posters. Basically they remodel your room into something awesome and unique you otherwise couldn't get.

Seems too small but just throwing it out there

Interesting! It certainly sounds more achievable than the other options, though maybe it could be supplemented with a prize that offers more immediate gratification. By default, winning a Triple Triad game either gives you a random card, or a card that I can specifically specify. Maybe that + Prize money + room decoration would also work?

I think special pokeballs would be cool. Maybe full restore and other top line products like max repel could be won, too.

Exclusive Pokeballs could be a neat idea, though generally I feel like that wouldn't have good staying power throughout the game, especially if players manage to accrue tons of money to buy those items anyway.

Well, perhaps having a combination of both the hold item thing and the hidden place? Have the triad masters say something like "Okay, here's your item. Also, here's a mark on your membership card/trainer card. Get X more marks and you'll be let into a part of a secret place."

The held item is the immediate reward, and then "Secret Place? WHERE? HOW? WHEN?" is a delayed gratification reward. You don't have to worry about getting a power boost too early; likely these unique trainers would be goddamn gods compared to where you are now, even if that is before the elite four. Maybe also have high-level Pokemon in this secret place after beating a triad master who you can only reach after an X point.

This is actually interesting, and atm I don't really have held items as set-in-stone as others, plus I think I have an idea on how to pace everything after taking a second look, thanks!

If you don't want both, perhaps have this "Secret Area" be accessible via a key item or ports in many places so you can visit it earlier on and be curious about it, with some slightly rare Pokemon in some of the first rooms you can enter, and eventually, as you beat triad masters you explore more and find more kinda common Pokemon but also recognizable famous trainers who say "Hey, you look pretty tough. Come back in ten years after the elite four and I'll see what you really got".
This secret place could have post-game leveled wild Pokemon too accessed after the elite four of course where even tougher triad masters reveal themselves, or a mini-battle resort where you fight a select few trainers repeatedly to level up to fight the famous trainers (these repeat trainers can be our own inserts).

Goddamn it so many possibilities, I should just make my own damn game or something. *sigh*

Maybe a bit of both would apply? Though going with key items might kind of clutter the item space a bit. These are all good ideas.

@Seiromem & Neversilent: The idea of a secret room sounds interesting! Especially the promise of battling trainers with official Pokemon. I only wonder how to make it immediately interesting or promising, since players will have a chance to experience Triple Triad before the post-game.

Blobofgoo: Shinies come off as too great of a reward, especially since I want to create pacing with this: there are TT matches easier than others.

Hold items is something to consider, though.

Breaking Out released! (again)

Thanks, iddalai!

A lot of my reluctance to go back to this mostly just comes from me being a noob with Stencyl and I still need to discover how I can fully utilize this engine's potential.

As for the title music... I can't say I blame you. I composed all the jingles in this game, and I'm probably one of the worst musicians.

Thanks for your feedback, though, I appreciate it!

The story of my woes and frustrations in creating this game

So my initial idea was to make a clone of Snake because that was easy to do, right?
Yeah, after doing a few of the tutorial projects in Unity, I decided to try making a Bomberman clone, because that would be fairly simple, right? I could knock it out in a weekend if I was focused and lucky.

HAAAAAAAhahaha...

Yup. Just because a game has simple gameplay doesn't mean it's easy to program, as I keep constantly learning.

The Demo is Complete! :D

When I was talking with the PR guy for Remnants of Isolation, he gave me an interesting piece of advice that changed the way I thought about commercial RM games:

Cool guy
It's true that people will be more inclined to get the free version if they are aware of it, and I think that you should keep it up. If people are going to buy it, it would be to support YOU, the developer, as much as the product itself, if not more.

Now, anyone who knows me will be incredibly surprised by me saying this, but I am kinda a fan of unity's work and wouldn't hesitate to support her if she decided to go that route.

Just something to think about.

That is great advice. I think we do place commercial development on either too low or too high a pedestal, when ultimately, the same principles pretty much apply whether you are developing a free game or not: People are going to support and play your games when you show your merit as a developer through making great games.

Devlog 2: Skills are Boss

ANNNNNA <3

Anyway, I'm amazed how Mirror Boy doesn't seem to have a reflection skill... or does he?

Random though

Hehehe. Burn-out is a bitch, ain't it?

As someone who is also going through a similar road, my best advice to give you is to lower your scope or take a break.

Don't be afraid to start on a simple (and I mean REALLY simple) project on the side, too, as long as you remember you still have this one to work on. xD

It's just good for satisfying that game-making itch without tiring yourself over the same. damn. project. for months. and months.

IT'S TESTING TIME! :DDDD
