Punch Bears Review

Anyway, ALL THAT ASIDE, it's nice that this game is no longer my highest scored game. Because that felt surreal no matter how you shake it.

I know that feeling too well. I still think "Chrono Trigger" (fyi it has nothing to do with the SNES game), is still my most downloaded game. >_>

People seem to love mindless trash that we never intended to be good.

Yeah, I understand the score, but it's just that I couldn't understand some of the comments, esp. Ones that just said "0/5 RTP music aaaarg" without going into detail on why those were actually terrible choices. Some RTP music fits well.

I agree. Dyhalto, you could have been a bit more specific about your thoughts of the game in general.

Heck, the RTP music isn't even that bad objectively speaking, it's just overused.

Bro, this review had me rolling. Not because of the developer's lack of ability, but because it echoes a familiar time for everyone, including myself. Even in my first game, I had the player delivering milk. Friggin' milk. Man, the memories... Anyway, I hope the developer takes from your critiques and makes better, if only slightly, games in the future.

We've all been there. :P

I don't think I've ever had a character deliver milk in my games, though. Possibly because I've personally only played a handful of RPGs outside of RPG Maker. I did have a turnip-collecting side quest, if that's close enough.

Wasn't this a joke game, by and large?

Super RMN Bros. 3 Review

Hedge, the overall problem with the level's design and your reasoning is that you are expecting players to play in a very specific playstyle that is neither well-hinted within the level itself, nor conventional in a Mario game.

When players see trails of coins leading to a specific spot, they interpret it as a hint to a path, not something to "stand on top of at all times," because that's the way the Mario series and many other platformers direct their players.

The concept of the level could honestly work if it was a non-hazardous "bonus" type of level where you aren't punished so much for not aiming in the right direction, but in "Watch That First Step!" you are. Enemies are nuisance in the level particularly because it throws off the momentum generated by falling in the level, thereby throwing off your focus and leading to easy missteps. Mario's downward physics in general are way too fast to adequately control, creating a level which relies solely on trial-and-error and not so much the player's skill.

Lastly, remember that you will always have a bias towards your own level and you will carry on your own playstyle when testing it. You have the advantage, you know precisely where and when to move around because you designed the level, but to a player who hasn't seen your level before, it's going to be a lot harder than you make of it.

Super RMN Bros. 3 Review

Thanks for this review! It's nice to get an opinion from a non-SMBX savvy person since it offers a completely different perspective on what's considered fair level design. You seriously haven't played Megaman, though? :P

Oh, and the levels that have some kind of auto-scrolling function don't have checkpoints because they either won't work at all (a quip with SMBX), or their existence would compromise the entire concept of the level. In a good level, we'd work around that by making levels short enough to complete, but since this is Super RMN Bros...

I'm amazed Kentona isn't all over this game.

Wow, you definitely got farther than I did with this game. I pretty much ragequitted at the goblin king boss.

Hey, thank you for the review! It was for a one week gaming event and I rode the line pretty hard so I didn't have much time to playtest the grindiness. Not sure if I'll try to pick up the pieces for this game, but if I do, your input is greatly appreciated!

I'm glad you are taking all of this feedback well! I can definitely understand how the limited timespan can almost inevitably lead to a lack of polish in certain areas. However, I kind of think this game would need a bit of an overhaul in order to actually be engaging and fun to play.
