I don't know why we allow disgusting creepers and overall shitty people to have more than an hour to thrive on this board.

We can all agree the comeback line was stupid. I hope we can also agree the outrage over the discomfort the topic brought was too strong given the circumstances as well.

As libby pointed out in the thread .. it was an h-game and people who KNEW this fact pursued it further and pointed those facts out and got enraged about it.
What did you expect as a comeback? I actually think it's very healthy to just own the fact you like certain things in fantasy and liked that game.

The question is not whether they like a certain thing (like different genders~), but whether they behave nicely outside of that. You can argue whether or not rape fantasies or what are good for you, or whether engaging in media including them is really healthy, but fact of the matter is: it comes down to how they behave as a person. That's their responsibility, not ours.
Outside of that fantasy. They might be alright they might not be unrelated to that.

Why is it such a big deal? Why does it devalue a person? If I admitted to a certain fantasy, would I suddenly lose all my value to you guys? I doubt it.

There was a clear context and reason it ever came up. There was a game to find. This site is related to games and that's why it was posted here for people some of which may be into h games as well, who knows. There's nothing to lose by doing that. They might've put the h right into the title, but who cares.
If noone took the contents up they likely would not have commented on them at all.

If they bring it up everywhere, make people purposefully uncomfortable .. that's an entirely different thing. And I hope you guys realize that.
People getting salty when people are enraged over them is a natural reaction, so if you try to base it on that instead it .. still is wonky.
I'm curious about the effectiveness of a moderation team which, first and foremost, just wants to be left alone

and the constant reorientation of this sort of thing from 'this person behaved this way' into 'that's just who they are, don't kinkshame' is useless. when people are calling out specific cases, pretending that they instead have a beef with that person based only on who they are is bizarrely defensive.

if you're going to give all the benefit of the doubt in the world to people doing shitty things, and then assume the worst of people troubled by that, that's not really my business -- but don't pretend this is 'even-handed' or 'objective' or whatever.

who gives a fuck besides the loudmouths
Good point! Thankfully noted.
1. posting just to say how much you don't care about a topic is pretty unconvincing and bores me to tears besides

2. I've seen this come up a couple times but literally what is up with the 'well he wouldn't start talking about sex slaves or ranting about 'libtards' if no one had engaged him so it's their fault not his' line

that's not how this works
Yes, that was stupid and uncomfortable.

I was wondering where the rage BEFORE that came from. Not after. I can understand the after. I don't get the before. It's not as bad before tho, so I do get your point better.

It just makes me feel really uncomfortable to know people would start screaming at others for the fact they like a certain thing. I really can't get behind that idea. It's just very counter to how I work.
I mean ostracizing someone completely for wanting some bad anime porn is a little beyond the pale I agree but I don't think that kicked up in earnest until he started on his budget 8chan shit

and in liberty's case treating everyone who said anything afterward as though they're only upset that this person was looking for hentai and not at the loads of shady shit that came afterward is disingenuous
Well I'll throw in my two cents.

I don't really care about what porn that guy wanted. People get turned by weird shit, whatever, it doesn't make them a bad person. but at the same time, is it something we really need to know. Do I really want to hear about what porn someone is into? I tend to see that as the sort of thing you should keep to yourself and to your close friends. Or to places that cater to that sort of thing. Not a public forum. Also doubling down and calling people names doesn't exactly make you too many friends.

As for Max well. If I recall correctly, his first ban was caused because he derailed a conversation so he could spew hate speech. When it was lifted, his response was to double down and join online hate group. Then later, he derailed another conversation for basically the same reason. Then claimed that the reason people were annoyed with him was because he had a "reputation that was beyond his control". Which suggests a complete inability to accept responsibility for his actions.
It would be one thing if he showed a real interest in having an actual conservation, but his actions strongly suggest that he doesn't. As a result, he's been a consistent problem in every discussion he participates in.

He's just a person who has ideals that I (and many others on the site) don't personally agree with and his way of posting is definitely very in your face and confrontational, but he's just as much a shitty person as anyone else who is in-your-face demanding about stuff and not letting shit go.

This really understates his actions.

This status alarms me to a significant degree, especially having been posted by someone I like and who's opinion I value. On this site, we tend to present ourselves as open-minded, making this appear to be a safe space, but that thread demonstrated otherwise. Max McGee's thread was one thing. His behavior was very bigoted and offensive, and our response while aggressive, was non-degrading, and barely addressed him, instead opting for a very healthy response. The thread in question here was a very different matter. The poster asked for an "H-game". S/he was delicate about how they asked, and thread quickly escalated into something that any newcomer to this site would have every valid reason to find very disturbing. The OP in that thread was not being a disgusting creeper. The respondents were being prying nosers. When it started, all we knew was that the op was looking for an H-game. By the time everyone had their say, we knew s/he was looking for a hentai game, "masturbated" to strange things, and was a "disgusting creeper" and this happened almost entirely through no fault of x/er own. Of course, s/he might have had the sense to shut up about slave porn, but when a conversation is heated, people tend to say things they shouldn't.

Well, I've got news for you. Pizza is a furry. Does anyone have anything to say to him about it? Does that make him a disgusting creeper? Corfaisus is, too. He's also into inflation, and I've seen what people on this site think of that. It doesn't bother me in the slightest, because I've got my own creepy interests, and I'm not even going to tell you what I'm into, and I'm pretty sure it'd knock the creep factor out of the park. Of course, I'm not on this site to talk about that, but if I were ever looking for a game about it, I might. Where else would I go to find such a game, anyway?

What happened was not the OP's fault for asking. It's not like s/he was posting images of tentacle porn.

You know, I wonder if we would be such sick, "disgusting creepers" if half the people on the internet weren't such Puritans about everything, and just fucking get laid for once. The peanut gallery in that particular thread was full of people I never imagined in a million years would be there. I don't even know what to think about that.

Looking through the thread again. Yeah that looks like the forum jumping people when they shouldn't have. There wasn't a need to pry open what that poster was into.

I decided to stop following the thread, but I'm just going to say here that I'm being characterized as "prying" for VISITING THE LINK HE PASTED INTO THE OP (granted, via a different source).

Here is the link, which says up front what kind of game it is and lists all the fetishes included.

How does clicking a link supplied in the OP count as prying?

ETA: I'm also peeved that I explained EXACTLY what my problem with the query was, but it's being chalked up to "OH NO PEARL CLUTCHING PURITANS!"

Like if y'all REALLY can't see why asking a general use site for a specific fetish game is a really weird idea, I don't know what to say. There's reasons for objecting to this beyond "I don't like your taste in porn."

Well, you're going to have to know what the game is before you can tell him anything about it, aren't you? I mean, Misery is a very common name. I know two completely different movies with that name. The one with James Caan based on the Stephen King novel, and one starring Bill Pullman, Nicole Kidman, and Alec Baldwin about a wife and a house guest trying to murder the husband. On the indie scene, I don't even want to think of how many Miserys there are.

So, since you had to know what the game was, apparently the proper response was to degrade him for his taste in games.

I'm sorry. I'm looking for a game that I can't find, but I can't tell you anything about it because that would make me a disgusting creeper.
People are into weird shit. Life goes on. (Though saying to you would like to own a slave falls under "shit you should probably keep to yourself.")

It's fucked up that we can't just not berate eachother for our differences when i know for a fact that ratty and others would strongly advocate for people's equal rights.

Y'all are just a bunch of hypocrites. That's the truth of it.

Literally, put them on fucking ignore if they bother you or just keep quiet about it. You want people to be able to feel comfortable in posting but your very basis is that people shouldn't post what they seek/want/like.

people's issues were with his behaviour. I don't know how much more often I'll have to say this.

it's literally the easiest thing in the world to see someone offput by someone being a weird creepy asshole and go 'well YOU'RE the hypocrite here' and feel better about yourself, and I'm real fucking disappointed that so many people are taking this shortcut

on the offchance that this even-handed air you're all putting on isn't utterly fake, I look forward to seeing this newfound bodhisattvah-like patience that you'll all engage your fellow forum members with from here on out

OK so hypothetically, I want to find a porn movie. Doesn't matter what it's about, it's a porn movie.

SHOULD I ASK ABOUT IT IN A GROUP OF PORN ENTHUSIASTS? OR SHOULD I ASK A GENERAL MOVIE GROUP ABOUT IT?

This is my sole problem- dude assumes it's both a good idea and appropriate to go into a general audience area and ask after porn, AND THEN expound on his fetishes.

I don't give a shit what his fetish is, I give a shit that he's asking about something in an inappropriate venue.

And that's all I care to say on the topic.
It looks bad all around. He shouldn't have asked here in the first place. It would have been better to have it locked quietly.
I'd just like to see, once in my life, people exercise their holier-than-thou attitudes by effecting positive change in, say, the many threads about social issues which have invariably seen the OP shouted down for being critical of gaming culture or whatever.

that's literally impossible to discuss here at length due to hand-wringing about 'caring too much' or far nastier conjectures about the person's attitude, and I sure as hell didn't see any of you helping then.
