Yeah, one should be like, "Eye Candy", a clear distinction of most prettiest game.
But another should be like "cinematography" or like, one of those bullshit, art categories, that you think you understand, when you hear it, but you don't?

I dunno, just something, that's clearly an award for "best art style" but sounds funny when you say it.

GotY is the Gold Medal for a lot of folks out there.
Even if it isn't in the whimsical spirit of the Misaos, I still think it's a disservice to the RM community to remove it.

I was so stoked when Kentona and Clyve were talking about this game back in the RMN chatroom years ago. It's so wicked to see how far this game has come along. Everyone on RMN is gonna feel the same way.

[Poll] Why You No Nominate For 2015 Misaos Yet, RMN?

It's been attempted in the past. Twice (I tried organizing it back when I had the energy to organize things). It ended...badly. It played out exactly as the Misaos did, in the sense people got all fed up over the results, but instead of directing their ire at some amorphous anonymous entity like 'Tumblr', it was directed at the judges themselves. Not unsurprisingly, there was little appetite to do it again.

basically, what I am saying is that on paper the idea of a committee of judges to highlight and praise games/endeavours is a great one, but in practice things tend to go to shit. But that was back in the Time of Yore (2009) so maybe it won't be so bad if we tried again. I ain't organizing it though.
Cool, cool no worries, I would really love to be involved with this, if possible.
What I was thinking more of, wasn't so much an educated rank choice awards or a staff choice awards but a community based choice awards. our community, RMN.
(Like, I'm still trying to think of how we'd narrow it down, though but I kind of want to avoid that.)
But, the idea is that, it would be the award ceremony, that the misaos weren't able to cover - (the notables games that don't get mentioned, would get mentioned)
It'd be committee/community based, where we'd either be working off misao nominees, games through word of mouth or community members that we feel deserve an honorable mention within RMN's community, for that year. ( and if we somehow forget someone or something, we'll mention them next year)
The idea is that, at the end of this award ceremony, we'd have a much grander scope of RMN's involvement, particular members who stand out and have contributed within the community and this really great list of games to play through, for that particular year, that we can continue refer to as reference:
Like for instance, in the 2013 Misao Awards, Fey(by Ashes of Emeralds) lost the Technical Prowess award to The Drop (by Deltree) right? Two very different games, made in two entirely different game engines, tackling two entirely different genre's of RPGs - even though Fey lost, it should still get an honorable mention from our community, because it's a real achievement to create a relatively good action rpg in rpgmaker2003, in an engine that was never really intended to create action rpgs with - So that next time, someone asks,"...how would you go about creating an action rpg in rpgmaker2003?" we would refer them to Fey and they'd see this award, for that particular year.
Like, the idea isn't so much to pick the best games, but to highlight certain games within RMN's community for that year, (kind of like those year end editions, you get with Magazines around new years, or even kind of like a year book.)
Because like, there's a lot of great stuff here going on within RMN, a lot of really great articles, a lot of really great media, a lot of really great community members and games, that not a whole lot of people even know about by simply looking on what's the on front page.

Like, this award ceremony would acknowledge those contributions and personal achievements within our community, because honestly, you guys deserve it.
Like, it really amazes me, how much content everyone proceeds for this site and how everyone from all different walks of life and different parts of the world continue to contribute and be apart of this community!

Honestly, I quite like the Misaos (although choosing to permanently drop anchor here right as last year's one concluded probably had something to do with it.) It certainly provides an insight into the psyche of RMN's visitors that year, if nothing else.
Then, fact that "Tumblr" nominees often win is in many ways a good thing, as it keeps us from becoming too insular. In a way, the question might well be not "why the masses of Tumblr et. al. ignore our games?", but "Why we ignore them?". I mean, HOME had been the frontrunner in several categories last year (before ultimately ceding ground to Oneshot like everything else), and it continues to get attention nowadays. Yet, not a single one of its reviews was written by an established user on here, as far as I remember, and I found that quite strange (I suppose I should get on it myself...some day.)
This is interesting. This is interesting because, I never thought of the Misao's this way. But more people probably should, as it would reduce the outrage, the drama and the anger that has come from, the importance of this award ceremony year after year.
So the Misao's is kind of like, "the people's choice awards" right? An award ceremony, voted by the public, for the public. Perhaps this is what the Misao's should solely be seen as, due to it's often outside involvement, outside of RMN's community.
But, rather than trying to replace the Misao's as some may have suggested, perhaps there should be a second award ceremony, one held during the month of RMN's inception, that would highlight our very own community's achievements.
Because, there's been A LOT of progression here, a lot of technical achievements and lot of community involvement, that not whole lot of people realize outside of this community. It goes unrecognized, and we really should take a month or a day or whenever the date RMN was created, to recognize those achievements.
Because guys, really, it may not seem like it, but we've come a long away. The stuff we do here on RMN matters, it really does, some people may not think so, but it does.
Think about what you would be doing right now if RMN didn't exist - and that's why we need to celebrate it.
We need to have a separate award ceremony or something celebrating RMN's success and our very own community members.
...Like, there's probably some community event that you guys have here yearly, that I don't know about, making my point invalid or whatever (...and I totally apologize for that.)
But Jesus Christ Man! Liberty works her butt off! Ketona works his butt off! So many people work their butt off to manage this fucking site and their games and holy shit, that needs to be recognized!

Time to liven this thread up again!
I've been testing Kazesui's Mode7 plugin, and got pretty far in a few days.
The FF6 airship is a placeholder for now. Since making that video, I added in the other 12 frames of animation (moving forward and backward shows different variations). As you might be able to tell, the coastline is all messed up due to autotiles not being rendered properly in the plugin yet. The sprite scaling isn't perfect either.
That blue fade in the background is made via pictures at the moment, but I'd like to try to do that in DynRPG instead so I can dynamically change the colors without having to copy & paste like 30 event commands (one picture for each alpha value :/ ).
Mind Blown.
