My art isn't the best, but I think I'm doing alright. *Reads tutorials on how to art better* Oh my god all my drawings are garbage.

'tis like aiming for the skies. You are doing alright, but the sky is just the limit my dear friend :) Doesn't mean the flowers on the ground aren't pretty.
We all have those moments we see how much you could improve, though. A little overwhelming. Many hugs to you!

Thanks. It's hard to look back at something you were once proud of and realize just how awful it really is. I mean, I'm getting better as I go along, but it's kinda hard to show that off when most people only see the older, crappier pieces.
Aye. I had a moment like that, altho in a completely different way, heh. Was so strange to see the huge success I felt then was just a little step.
I've also seen some artists showcase their drawings over time. Like, per month or per year. And these assortments are always so amazing, because you really can see big changes.
Well, I'm sure once that initial bummed feeling wears off the pride in your development remains. On to even bigger improvements :)
.. and now I want to draw some more, hehehe.

Yeah. The more you learn, the less you know. Quite a paradox, isn't it?
HOLD IT! Hold it right there! None of us here are great artists except Sooz but you are certainly one of the good ones. By all means, keep practicing new techniques, but don't think for a second that that means there's anything wrong with what you already do.

Welcome to life as an artist! You are doomed to never be satisfied for more than maybe a day or so! DOOMED!

Thanks, man! I just wish I could find the time and go back and redo all the stuff I already did for my projects because I know I can do so much better now. I probably will eventually, but until then, I have to suffer looking at those older, crappier pics.

You give me too much credit. I usually get dissatisfied with something a few hours after completing it!

I feel this all the time.
IT'S SO FRUSTRATING!!
I'm okay with my earlier projects still having their old, crappy art, because 1) If I get in the cycle of redoing things, then I'll keep improving, then keep having to redo old stuff, in a neverending cycle, and 2) it's a nice guideline to see how far I've come since then XD

This woman speaks the truth.
xD
It helps I don't really consider myself as an artist. So I just do things and say, yay, I did something!
.. it is a good process avoiding things... now to actually practice stuff. Like environments.. oh joy.
Love yourself for doing stuff. You are doing good stuff! You can do better stuff. But the important thing is you are doing stuff. And creating things from scratch is awesome.

You will never be satisfied with what you have or what you can do, and you never should be. Every single person that's better than you was where you are right now, and every one of them looked at the people they wanted to be and said to themselves, "I can never do that."
Some people said that and were right. Some people said that and were wrong, but gave up anyway. And some people said that, but kept pressing on.
Being that third kind of person is a choice you make. And that really is all there is to it.

That was a maximum estimate, not an average one!
I cannot understand artists who are able to decorate their space with their own work. I would spend my entire life curled in a little ball of cringe.

I do this, but it was more a result of using past drawings as references on projects were I need to draw the same character constantly and then being too lazy to take them down.
Hell for an artist is an eternity of people digging through their old sketchbooks.
Yanno, I have, on occasion, thought of starting a thread for people to showcase their REALLY OLD WORK, be it art, music, or whatever, and compare it to where they are now. I figured something like that might be good for newbies, to see that everyone starts somewhere.

That's actually a pretty cool idea.
Congratulations! Once you stop feeling like your art is shit, you're no longer an artist. Having lots of artsy friends, they always think they can do better or that x is crap, while I'm sitting here staring at their Sistine Chapels and going WHYYYYYYY?!?!
I've noticed that when an artist starts big-noting themselves and stops thinking negatively about their art, they stop trying and just get worse. So, yeah, keep thinking it's shit and keep moving forward. You're an artist now! Congrats!
(Even Nessy has lamented to me on various occasions about how much she hates her stuff and I'm there like 'GIVE ME YOUR TALENT'. I bet even the old Masters felt the same.)
I did that for maps once and showed off my shitty maps, but every other poster in the thread showed off all these 'old' maps that were like 'oh, this is my old work' when it was like, bitch, those graphics were only released last month. :/
I did it on RMW, so maybe the people there were too proud to show off their bad mappage for fear of being thought to be shit. :/

Because we can see the beautiful, shining, perfect version of things in the darkness behind our eyes, and the output of our sin-cursed, mortal hands is to that vision what a crescent of dog vomit is to a perfect rainbow.

Oh, yeah, most of us seem to be well aware that we are shit! :V

Haha, I didn't even consider that as something that would happen! Actually, the main reason I haven't done it is because I personally don't have anything new to show, and I figured it'd be kinda bad form to start the topic without actually participating in it.
If anyone else wants to start that, feel free.
