Looking into putting together a trailer. Anyone know of any decent video editing software for a guy with a ramen noodle budget?

Movie Maker doesn't come with Windows 10, and there's a scam program circulating around the web, so I'm not sure which source to trust.
If you had asked a couple of days ago Humble Bundle had a software bundle that included Vegas Pro I think. But it seems that bundle is over now.

Generally I find googling "free video editing software" brings up enough lists for me to get a start on researching.

From another forum:
"DaVinci Resolve is free if you want a full scale non-linear editor including offloading, metadata entry, industry standard color grading, and the absurdly powerful Fairlight Audio platform, for only the cost of a learning curve to rival Dwarf Fortress."

"Resolve is a special kind of hell that made me happy to pay for a student license of Adobe CC just so I never would have to open it again."

So probably avoid that one. :V

I found a few, but it'd nice to hear personal accounts from people here to get an idea of which way to lean. Or which ones to avoid. Like Resolve, for instance.

Openshot is an easy to use and minimalistic non-linear editing software. I used it for my last video and it's good enough for basic shooting, but it lacks various fancy options of Avid/Sony products.
I think that you can still download a trial version of vegas/movie studio pro. That one's easy to use and offers a load of options. You should be able to cut your trailer in 14 days.

I guess Openshot might be unstable on windows.
Resolve isn’t all that bad. It’s actually the closest to being like Adobe Premiere actually. And it’s the easiest powerful free video editor to learn out there (note the word powerful). It has a very fluid timeline and intuitive editing.

Also, you don’t need to learn Color Grading/Fairlight etc. in Resolve to do simple editing. You don’t really need all those anyway unless you’re really into editing.

This is speaking from experience btw since I mainly use Resolve for my video editing for my YouTube videos.

Also, I’ve posted this video to Red_Nova on Twitter, but I thought I would also share this video with you guys. Very nice insights from this reviewer.
