Hi there! I'm Michael. I live in sin city right now, but I'm all sinned out right now. Please leave a message.

I'm a teacher by trade, but my creative outlet is writing and game design. I've been an avid gamer since I was old enough to hold a controller, and that's not changing anytime soon.

I plan to start doing game reviews soon, thanks for checking it out!

Sempiternal Review

Thank you so much for taking the time to review this, aquatorrent! I appreciate it.

Over the past few days, I've addressed a few of the issues you mentioned (typos, bugs). I've added a left hand keyboard setup (using WASD to move) and a right hand setup (arrow) keys. I will add some documentation in the game folder, as this would be all be very cumbersome to show in the game itself. You should be able to do most everything in the game without the mouse. Unfortunately the alter system will always be mouse reliant, due to how I set it up.

Items will definitely be required to beat that boss you mention (at least on hard mode), and they are a core part of Kara's strength in combat. However, you'll eventually be able to take her out of your party if you're not an item fan.

I also did tone down the boss you mentioned on normal, if your version had him use an attack and then immediately follow up with another (3 hit attack) that was an error and unintended for normal mode. Apologies.

I'm working hard to make the next part a 4 or a 5! Take care.

Story writing tips (from me. But I mean, add yours or whatever)

Great post. These are all important, but I particularly like raising the stakes. Nobody (okay, maybe not nobody) wants to play a character who has an easy, breezy life. Being human is about struggle, especially in today's world. Your main character (MC) needs to struggle. Your villain should be more powerful than your MC for most of the game. Beat the living daylight (metaphorically, not physically) out of your hero. Make the player want to root for them.

I also think pacing is really important. Don't let the tension relax for too long. At the same time, when tensions are high don't hold it for too long. It's a really delicate balance.

I'm learning these things as I go, and it's much easier said than done. But, practice makes perfect. I agree with flowerthief that story and gameplay are equally as important as visuals. Unfortunately, visuals are how you grab people's initial attention. I wish I was a better artist. D:

The perspective here is beautiful!

Malevolent Virtue

I managed to understand about 50-60% of what I played. My mom will be proud! Haha.

Was pretty nice so far, thanks for your time.

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

I'm playing Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker and Tales of Arise at the moment. The newest Tales game is pretty fantastic overall, I'm impressed (I loved Beseria but I haven't played any of the other ones).

Looks like he’d be fun to play with/fight against!

Just finished the first part of Sempiternal and found it very enjoyable, can`t wait for the finished game. So far it`s 10/10 from me, well done!

Thank you very much! I can't wait to continue working on it.

There was a few minor bugs if you downloaded it this morning once you entered the forest. This was me testing different new mechanics and forgetting to delete them. So sorry, it should be working now.
