Plus, this is a little bit of the nature of game development communities overall. We're mostly introverted, a large portion of us being neurodivergent and investing little time into sociabilities by virtue of our creative pursuit (that's all me btw) so yeah. BTW RMN, thank you for all the dang sweet memories. You guys rock.

Having gone to a school for game design, with prospective devs, being taught by people working in the industry and living with a person who wanted to make games like myself, I can say that yeah. Pretty much all of them were at least semi-introverted sarcastic assholes on some level. You just had to find it.

I can't speak to the entirety of it but in my memory this site seems basically chill as hell compared to how things used to be 5 or 10 years ago. I'd tell people to come here if they were making RM games or whatever (if I knew any that weren't here already), but I think I'd assume that at that point they'd already be aware of what they were going to be getting into.

Besides, I see new people in the Discord every month or two and they're always treated well when they're not going out of their way to be a problem. So. ???

Goaling It 2024

This is the first year in a long time I bothered having any goals or "resolutions" specifically. Mostly because they're more like general reminders of things I wanted to do, but were being held back because of my alcohol addiction. Now that I'm sober I can actually work towards doing some of it:

1.Stay Sober (that's pretty important)
2.Read more books
3.Watch at least a FEW more movies than usual
4.Get some actual gamedev done for once
5.Keep losing weight (kind of a double with #1 for obvious reasons)

They may seem a little silly, but I mean, I collect movies and have tons of books I've been meaning to get around to, and not to mention game(s) I SHOULD be actually working on since its important to me personally, but just ignored all of that in favour of slurping down poison every day for the last few years.

I think also the books and movies are kind of important to getting myself running again with the gamedev. It's all like learning how to actually be inspired again, or to break things down and understand them again, or something. Maybe just to enjoy things again.

2024 is basically about just figuring out how to be a real person with goals and experiences again, at least ones that don't revolve around the the next bottle of liquor. It's been hard to figure out but I feel better about it more and more over time, like I'm getting it again in small bursts.

Best RM series to play all the way through?

Darken
The Way

I'd have to second this if only because it's the only RM series I've played the entirety of. That was ages and ages ago but I remember it being very good.

I should check it out again tbh.

2023 Gaming Diary

Playing the newly released Dragon Quest+ by our very own Ljink and loving every bit of it so far.

Also picked up JJBA: The 7th Stand User. I guess Ljink is getting me around to cracking open some RM stuff finally.

Playing Fallout New Vegas for the billionth time too, but there's nothing to say about that.

Just wait until Skynet becomes self aware and poisons all the Coca Cola

Fair enough. I don't know a lot about voice synth stuff so it seemed like a weird situation to me.

I think I get what Frogge is saying (cause it would be trained on a single voice?) but then I struggle to think why and how you'd be able to get consent to train it on a voice and not just be able to use the real person at that point?

To be fair the kind of people going to AI, based on what I've been seeing, seem to find "try and do it yourself" an incomprehensible, alien concept, let alone "try to collaborate with someone else".

I have literally done the weird robot voice thing myself before, takes about 5 seconds of messing with Audacity so I don't even know if you can claim the AI is easier

This thread has been an excellent source of people's excuses as to why they NEED an AI and also simultaneously a perfect example of why they absolutely don't, ever time, and it's wonderful to watch tbh
