Something happened to me last night when I was driving home. I had a couple of miles to go. I looked up and saw a glowing orange object in the sky. It was moving irregularly. Suddenly, there was intense light all around. And when I came to, I was home.

What do you think happened to me?

Vacant Sky Vol. 1: Contention Review

Thanks for playing and for the detailed review! I'm glad you enjoyed the game overall.

There's no particular point on which I disagree, although I fear that you might not like the Complete Edition, because it adds a significant degree of branching to the story beginning in Act II (and is largely the reason it's taking so long). If I may ask, what about the branching didn't you like?

Final Fantasy Essence Review

There are actually people who enjoy random encounters, believe it or not. At the end of the day, it's his/her (their) game, and no matter what they choose, they will have an audience either way.

That's not my point. My point is that people who enjoy random encounters are unlikely to not play a game because it doesn't have them, whereas people who don't are. It's limiting your audience needlessly.

This got me thinking. Is there anybody out there who legitimately likes random encounters? - We tolerated them for a while only because they came with the rest of the package, and the words 'Final Fantasy' actually meant something cool before. And nowadays I guess that feeling of nostalgia we're all looking for isn't complete without a pinch of masochism... But to dismiss what's fundamentally wrong with the system with an "Others have done it that way" or "Is a matter of opinion" unless the message is delivered with kitchen gloves on is kind of worrying.

The whole idea is to give more control to the players and leaving them less at the mercy of whatever obscure formulas are at work... And the only Pro that I can think random encounters have is kind of on the practical side, since you don't have to make so many monsters graphics and stuff; but with such awesome visuals this game has that sounds almost like we're missing out on something cool. xP

My way of thinking of it is like this:
Sometimes players feel like fighting battles and sometimes they don't. Sometimes they just want to explore. If there are visible encounters and the player wants to explore, then the player can evade them and continue having fun uninterrupted. If the player wants to fight, they can engage the encounter.

On the other hand, given the same scenario with random encounters:
* The player who wants to fight is rewarded with a battle.
* The player who wants to have fun exploring has what they were doing interrupted by a battle they didn't want to fight, and has to waste time either winning or running away so they can return to what they were actually enjoying.

Having touch encounters satisfies the needs of both types of players, whereas random encounters satisfies only some players while annoying the others.

Most people are like "oh random encouter! let's complain about the rate! yay!" without even undestanding how it's works.
Who cares how it works when random encounters are just terrible to begin with? Most people don't complain about the rates, they complain about the system itself... the rates just exacerbate the problem.

You seem more interested in justifying the use of a shitty system than listening to criticism of people that are actually interested in playing your game, and taking into account that, while FF6 may have used them, it doesn't make them good and you probably ought to rethink your system.

This. I thought this game sounded very promising and I was excited about playing it, but as soon as I heard it had random encounters, I was immediately turned off. There's no excuse for using such an antiquated system in a game anymore. I really, really wish you would consider changing it.

As for the graphics, some are custom~ so it's not an all straight RTP game~

Wow. That makes it even more impressive. How long did you spend on the game?

Princess Princess Review

A 2.5/5 is average.

Princess Princess Review

That's a valid question. How much of the graphics score should be quality of the graphics and how much how well they're used? I would think that quality should be a sizable portion of the graphics score. Isn't the point of the graphics section to answer "how good are the graphics?"

Princess Princess Review

I'm not trying to raise a fuss or anything, but is a 3/5 in graphics really appropriate for a straight RTP game?

Wither Review

This is a pretty fair review. You can nitpick at it all you like, but his points are solid and well-justified.
