Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

My event structures are normally a mess, but I've been commenting on them a lot better recently, which is essential when I take such long breaks between working on my games...

... so I like to congratulate myself on being able to figure out what the hell is going on!

Climate change denial is also demonstrably wrong, should people go to jail for that as well?

Corollary: Failing to deal with climate change is almost certainly more dangerous to humanity than white supremacists currently are.

@Gourd:

There are many ideas that have been banned throughout human history that are now part of everyday life. A good example is homosexuality since this community has a higher-than-average number of non-heterosexual members, but other good examples include women obtaining the vote and African Americans overturning segregation. Banning those concepts didn't stop people believing in those ideals and that's largely because it's impossible to demonstrate them to be incorrect.

On the flip-side, white supremacy is demonstrably wrong. We can prove that a person's skin colour has no effect on their potential as a human being and we can prove that a person's nationality has no effect on their potential as a human being. As such, it's an ideology that will (and is) slowly go away. You don't need to outlaw it, nor will outlawing it hasten the process.

@Roden:

I agree with you that there are many problems regarding policing in America, especially policing of demonstrations and the inconsistency of such. I just don't think that banning ideologies or restricting free speech is a good tool for solving those problems...

@Gourd:

My point is that censorship isn't exactly stopping it. Education would be far more effective if properly used. The same is known to be true of radical Islam; that identifying those at risk of radicalisation and educating them otherwise is infinitely more effective than outlawing Islamist material.

I mean, it's not like it's fucking hard to find such "outlawed" material online if you look. Trying to remove freedom of speech and censor objectionable ideological material is, at this point, dumber than the prohibition was. And that was a really fucking dumb idea.

EDIT:

@Roden:

All that happens is that these groups get better at hiding their bullshit. The very same happened with political parties like the BNP in the UK, FN in France and the aforementioned AfD in Germany.

Eroding free speech is what Nazis and tyrants do. Only ridiculous ideologies require the law to protect them; others tend to flourish eventually regardless.

EDIT2:

RMN on a phone is hard.

What are you thinking about right now?

Educating people as to why an ideology is destructive is infinitely more effective than trying to ban it. Ultimately, humans are idiots, and you can't legislate against stupidity and gullibility. You can only educate against them.

Keep thinking that censorship and legislation does any good if you like. Legislative tools didn't work for the racists and homophobes in segregated America so the same tactic probably won't work for you, even though you are on the right side of history.

EDIT:

Reminder that Germany has a more thriving alt-right (AfD) movement than many European countries that don't ban swastikas in WW2 video games...

What are you thinking about right now?

Banning ideas and eradicating free-speech are far more dystopian than anything America's insignificant number of white supremacist dickheads are capable of achieving.

[RM2K3] how can i create a crafting system

That's a very broad question. The broad answer is using show picture commands to mimic an actual menu, but even a basic smithing system like that one will require thousands of lines of code.

You should perhaps give it a try using tutorials like this and then come back with some more specific questions?

[Poll] What is your favorite Final Fantasy game?

I don't want to let RM2K3 handle battle-end information like items earned, experience earned, and so on so I'm mocking up a menu system for it. It shouldn't really take me very long to make; it'll probably take me longer to make the graphics themselves.

I want to make it so that in any given area, only the first x battles will give you experience, representing the idea that the heroes have nothing more to learn from a given area after x battles have been fought. That's the main motivator for wanting a custom system.
