It should send out its spymaster to discourage vassals from joining the plot.

It's pouting. Pouty cats can be unnerving to deal with. Try to find it. I had a cat almost starve itself to death pouting and being a spoiled brat.

Try to find it.

We did try, and boy did we fail! We've only lived in this house our entire lives, checked every crevice, every unsavory spot, every possible nook and cranny she could have gotten herself into, and nothing! Not a damn trace! We are 99.99% sure there was no possible way for her to have gotten outside (she's an indoor cat who hasn't set foot outside since the day we got her about 2 years ago) so we're befuddled at where she could have gone. My only guess is the attic, which I don't think anyone has gone up into for all of 30 years, and the only possible entrance is some rotted out corner in the ceiling of my closet and I have my doubts about her even fitting in there. Cats are surprisingly flexible though, so she probably could have fit. The next step would to be to actually go into the attic...
I shudder at the thought.

They're probably just nervous. Cats, like other animals that kind of depend on scent, are more than likely to be anxious around unfamiliar scents. Give it time, and hopefully your old cat doesn't tear your kitten to shreds.

I'm all too used to this! I used to run a volunteer cat sanctuary where I live and the O.Gs dont like the youngbloods.
my Morgana once fled from home for two years because we adopted two new cats.
One day suddenly she was "hey theyre dead right? im glad. im back"
(yeah, one of them unfortunately horribly fell into my neighbour's dog-filled backyard. And well...)

Morgana's now 17 yrs old. And now living somewhat peacefully with other two new cats, since we adopted them as kittens. She just doesn't want them too close. (yet they insist on licking and cuddling with her since its so cold and she's like yeah whatever don't touch me with these paws or you're fucked)

Found the cat in the neighbor's garrage, she had killed 4 birds and 2 chipmunks, apparently. After reading online about indoor-runaways, I read how the cat would most definitely and absolutely NOT greet us with relieved purrs. I unfortunately couldn't think of an alternative as my siblings all tried to pry her out and carry her to the house a few yards away. She wrestled out of their control and ran off into the woods.

The only thing I'm worried about are the hawks, but hopefully she tries to hole up in their garage again so we can be prepared with a carrier next time.

Sure hope there's a next time.
