SHADDOW'S PROFILE

I am a 30 year old amateur game developer. I love to do anything that involves creation; making games, art, music, brainstorming. It doesn't matter, I can and will do it all.

I am very familiar with RMVX and Ace and a bit familiar with XP, and love to help people out. I am currently working on a project, Lullaby, with Jonnie91 and I hope it'll be a great success.

I never know what to say about myself, so if you want to know more, you'll just have to ask me.

How's this battleback look? (It's from an MTG artist)

Honestly I think it clashes with the face sets and probably the general look of the game, it is a bit to much in the realism style, while the face sets are quite anime style.

@ Mr_D - Use a camera pan the first time the player enters the building, it's cinematic and gives a nice feel, just don't do it every time or it gets annoying lol.

@ Nemo - Given that you are using ripped graphics it isn't too bad, it does kind of have that old school onion knight feel to it, but I feel like it could use more natural appeal and less obvious wanton destruction, even ruins don't look that worn out.

Remember how I made a post long ago about working on a zelda style game? Well here is the work in progress. I have some of the features already coded, but this is most of what I have graphics wise.

Honestly, when I look at this more, I'm kind of horrified by the trees, the shading on them makes them look like layer cake, it isn't natural and looks really off, a bit of variety in the shading instead of each section being a different colour with obvious seperation can do wonders. I'd honestly take a look at the rtp trees for XP, they do shading rather well, or even better look at some snes era games like Secret of Mana, you can find some wonderful shading tips there.

@ Mr_Detective - It is still rather flat and lifeless, there is no angle or design to the building, it is just one giant wall, on top of that using just the brick tiles leaves no path for people to follow.
If it is for some odd reason a walk up hospital, as you perhaps don't have cars or some such, you may still want to include a walking path. I'd put the stairs just in front of the doors if you are going to separate them, it looks rather odd off to the side like that.
One last thing, your life saving, grace giving hospital is devoid of life, there is no plants, no trees, no birds, no butterflies, no people....some of that would really help.

Bottom line: It's just really barren and bland.

Gargh! Can someone help me with this map? I can't figure out what to put down, and the two buildings are not looking so well. :(

I am basing it off of this one.

Honestly, its a bit flat, if you look at your example, the area around the entrance sticks out beyond the normal part of the hospital, if you could capture that, and perhaps add a bit more life, or variety to the walk path, it would look a lot better.

@jomarcenter - I have to say there isn't really anything wrong with your dungeon, but then again nothing truly stands out from it, it's kind of just a standard underground dungeon, with a very very basic shape and not a lot of difficulty in navigation. It is hard to tell from this distance, but it seems a bit bland and repetitive in shape and design as well.

Perhaps a bit of variety in both pathways and filler could really help liven the place up. Again though, it is passable, just not memorable.

Yes. Yes you can.

If they can't be talked to, then they don't need a face.
Huh? I have never played an RPG that has NPCs you can't talk to. :O

I actually have this frequently, when using a lot of npcs. I tend to use variables with random wait times using the emotion icons to show them having conversations, or sleeping, or grumbling or anything, without any actual dialogue.

Perhaps the cheating stems from a deeper emotional problem within the player. I suggest sending them to Dr. Phils website.

Yes. Just yes.

Hey there!

I shed manly tears during Ib. I'm glad I'm not the only one. Welcome to RMN, you'll find that not many jimmies are rustled here.

Greetings

Finding composers is always nice, I hope you'll contribute music outside of just contests as well. I can't wait to hear what you can do.
