SHADES'S PROFILE

I read, I write, I play. I design stories and games. RPGs and turn based strategy games are my favorites.

Just started working with RM Ace, and am currently building my first game with it. I'm liking what I can do with it so far. If I manage to publish a game with it, that'll be more than I ever got done with any other game maker.

There *is* one thing I don't like about it: the lack of online connectivity. I want to make games that I can play with my friends, and sadly may find myself needing to abandon the RM toolset eventually. That's probably the biggest reason I didn't bother with it until recently.

Oh, yeah. I also dance.
The Legend of Gladius
Two treasure hunting mercenaries. One mean ogre. All that stands between them is a legend.

What are you thinking about? (game development edition)

Thinking about writing that MUD codebase I never got around to doing. Also about finishing Legend of Gladius (which would include not only the single chapter test game but also writing at least two more chapters.)

Wyrm Warriors

Welp. I'm back from an extended and unannounced hiatus. I just finished watching Liberty's Let's Trys of the demo. I like what I see. I would like to see more.

If I had more skill with the mapping and scripting and such I might have offered a hand, but I felt that others would do the game more justice in that department.

I'll admit it always did seem overly ambitious, but I had harbored some hope that I might come back and see the whole game come together in some form or other. Craze, unity, everyone who worked on this: thank you for bringing it this far. It looks awesome for what it currently is.

Whatever becomes of this project, it was fun to brainstorm and share ideas.

How did your first game turn out?

Mine was (and is) a mixed bag. I managed to accomplish a lot of what I was going for (just a single chapter introductory project), but apparently even my (slightly) improved mapping still turned out pretty poor. It's unfinished with a lot of room for improvement, but I was happy making it. I released it to get some feedback for making improvements.

I need to finish it so I can make the sequels. This will mean finding the time to improve my mapping some more.

Talking Time RPG Maker Contest 2014

Might be interesting to contemplate if I knew where those forums were. Google results seem a bit ambivalent about which site we're actually referring to.

Was thinking about reviewing that one myself, but it it's got two already then I'll probably hold off on that one.

Enex2 Review

I'm open to reviewing other games than RPGs. In fact, the one I'm working on now is more of a board/puzzle game than any kind of RPG.

That's right, I should have mentioned the boulders as well. Minigames of that sort aren't really something I find too appealing, but that boulder trap worked well within the context of the game, and it made perfect sense as something to wake the player up and present an additional challenge. Putting it in was a good call, but it generally wouldn't be my favorite part of an RPG.

I'm glad you enjoyed my review, as it's my first attempt at formally reviewing a video game, and it's my first review on this site as well. I used to review fiction quite often for another site, though, so I do have a bit of experience with it. I'm thinking of experimenting with another format or two for games, so I'll have to see if this one turns out to be the best.

Good luck with your games!

I guess it's a good thing this isn't a race. 0_o

What I'm wondering is how you get 11 reviews through while my one review is still pending...

The Elder Scribes of RMN: Reviewrim

Hmmm... is there a preferred template or style for reviewing games for these things, or is it up to the individual reviewer to come up with his own format?
