How do you design your dungeons?

In a lot of games dungeons are simply random encounter filled areas with very little mechanical differentiation or they lack any puzzles to make them more than just another cave or ancient tower of evil.

So I'm curious what goes through your guys's heads when you design your dungeons. Do you try to add some sort of mechanical spin to make the player think differently? Do you pull a Final Fantasy 6 and have split parties? What is your design process for dungeons?

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

Currently I'm working on character skill sets and trying to make each character have their own sparkle. The current wall I'm facing is making the main Debuffer character feel "fun" to use and also I'm trying to make the Medic character a little more than just a generic white mage. But other than that, I'm doing a little bit of mapping on the side and I'm about 25% of the way done with the maps in my game so that's a happy feeling. Progress!

[RMVX ACE] Failed to start process and Windows can't access specified device, path or file?

I'm thinking that it's a missing (or mis-named) registry file, which shouldn't happen normally, if at all, without external alterations.

Nothing bad with MV though. If it's your first RPG Maker engine, it's actually pretty decent, as it's easier to use (imo).

Not my first lol, though I am liking the UI quite a bit more. It feels very fluid. I'm just not a huge fan of the RTP characters this time around. VX Ace had some really awesome RTP characters.

Is this error happening when you open ace or just when you are play test a game.
Try to start a new game and play test it. Also has your computer ever shut off or anything like that happened while using Ace?

Ace is also better than MV imo.

I started a new project still got the error, reinstalled ace and still got the error, reinstalled the RTP and still got the error. I caved and bought MV lmao.

[RMVX ACE] Failed to start process and Windows can't access specified device, path or file?

Welp, after some research and attempting various fixes I saw from online. I can't seem to get anything to work. I guess I'm picking up MV.

[RMVX ACE] Failed to start process and Windows can't access specified device, path or file?

Was just doing some casual game maek and got hit with this mess. The failed to create process error comes when I try to test play. The Windows can't access specified device, file or path comes when I try to open a game from the folder. Any advice or should I just move on from VXA and onto MV?

How do you design your battle system?

The last post I made about character skill sets seemed to be pretty popular so I thought I'd make another post along the same lines.

The question this time around is how do you design your battle system? While designing my game I looked a lot at the SMT series of games. I liked the focus on elements and the press turn system I think it's called from Nocturne. I also drew some elements from WoW when it came to designing boss fights and encounters.

So I'm curious, what do you do when designing your battle systems?

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

question: what is breach league in path of exile?

answer:

Path of Exile is the best! Breaches only get crazier and drop even more loot later on lmao.

How do you differentiate your characters?

author=Pyramid_Head
For my game Steel Spirit SaGa, each character can level up elements to gain new spells, which is done by equipping a weapon of the corresponding element (except for one of the main characters who can't use magic), and each character is proficient in two or more elements, the combinations are endless.

So do you balance the main characters by having them be more physical damage oriented? Or by using some kinda elemental infused weapons?

How do you differentiate your characters?

Starting to toy around with some of the ideas listed in this topic, more specifically using different forms of resources and using conditions or stacks of something that synergize with an ability. This topic gained a lot more traction than I expected so thank you guys for all your good advice!
EDIT: At some point I'll probably post some stuff from what I've been working on just so I can get some more specific feedback.
