STATUS

So last year I made a little RPG Maker game for someone as a Christmas gift. Technically-speaking, it was nothing impressive, it was a ten minute long RTP game of the nature you might make for one of your friends, filled with jokes only the two of you would get. The treasure chests in the game were each filled with a holiday message from one of her friends that I had solicited in secret. I thought it was pretty cute. And she loved it! But that was only the beginning of the story.

Recently, I learned that she loved the game so much that she tweeted out screenshots of the game as she played it. As the screenshots wound their way through her network of friends, someone she didn’t know messaged her asking about the game, saying it looked cool. Starting from that single message, the two struck up a friendship, and later, a romance! She sent me a message a few days ago saying that they recently moved in together and that she is the happiest she’s ever been. She couldn’t thank me enough for making the game for her, which she said literally changed her life.

And that is how I accidentally helped two people fall in love using RPG Maker.
