Well, I'll wait until the walk speed is adjusted before I play any more of it, then. And when I talk to NPCs the text speed is slooooow.

Yeah I see now what you mean, somehow the text did not change in the first village and some other maps. I use a program to extract text from the maps but those maps somehow fail. I will adjust that manually.

Version 2.2. Anything less than the default speed is too slow. I'm a pretty fast reader and having to wait on text takes me out of the game. The main problem is the walk speed to me.

Well as far as I know the text speed is maximized in that version.

And I'm adjusting the intro now so that it becomes a bit more serious. The penis ship however needs to stay because its not for nothing that it has that shape.

The walk speed will be taken care of too only not in the next update. Maybe I make a toggle system instead of a running system if those event bugs keep reoccurring.

Look, the thing is that yes, we've only played about 1% of the game (which is still over an hours worth, seeing as the game is apparently over 100 hours long) but most games are judged their worth within the first ten minutes. And yes, it's not fair, and no, it shouldn't happen like that, but it does. A lot of people don't have the time to play a game that they feel is going nowhere, that's why it's a good idea to hook them in early.
Unfortunately, FT3 doesn't present itself very well within the first hour or so. Personally I think the mapping is okay - I remember making maps like that. At least they're no BL or MMGX. That said, it takes too long to get to the interesting parts. They should be out on parade at the start of the game, slowly pulling the player in.
Think of it like fishing - you gotta cast the right bait and wait a while to see what the fish like. Personally, again, I didn't really mind parts of the introduction. I felt it went on for a lot longer than it needed to, though. I'd have preferred to skip the whole tutorials/playing families bit, or at least given you control of the character as soon as you could. The tutorials could have been spaced out over the course of the game - maybe giving them as they become relevant.
And the most annoying thing - the text/walk speed. Yeah, I know you've heard about it a lot, and I'm guilty of the same thing, text speed wise - though I've since learnt to leave it at the default speed. When you have large maps it's best to leave the walking speed as default. Even having a toggle run/walk would be fine, though.

(FYI, toggle Run/Walk doesn't mess with events! OMFG!)

BTW - I rather like FF13 - much better than I liked FFX anyway. ^.^

which version are u playing because the text speeds are already fast.

About the rest of ur post, well it would be kind of hard to make such a radical change in the beginning. BUt I might think of something.

If I played a game for an hour and didn't enjoy the story thus far, you better believe I am going to judge it.

You mean the intro or the story after the intro?

Most people here except something close to a game who which you can buy in stores. I think that a lot of people are too spoiled here with all them games.
People here don't expect games to be like store-bought games. Do you think any of us are capable of creating a game with the graphics of FF XIII? However, we do expect some level of quality from even freeware games. Story, gameplay, mapping...these are all things that are within our control. Thus, there's no real excuse for having ugly maps, incoherent dialogue, and boring battles.

EDIT: Do you understand why people don't like the first few hours of the game? We're not just talking out our asses here...

Ok you're absolute right about that, but I don't think that these are the things that are a problem of the game right now.

Well the dialogue that is something I cannot do anything about it in the first place because I'm not native English. So that's a thing that you have to take with you. I could have also made the game in dutch but then nobody would understand it. That does not mean that I will not improve the dialogue, there is someone going trough it and if others want to look at is as well they are free to do so.

The story that is something that someone who played 1% cannot judge. So so that just a wild guess if you based that on a 1% experience. All the people so far who did come far did like the story.

About the mapping, well it's not the best mapping around but it is not the worst either. There are some inconsistencies that need to be fixed but that will all happen some later on.

Well boring battles that is of course an opinion but mostly people say that because they do not understand the battle system yet. You need to play a lot of battles before you truly understand the deepness in it. And of course in the beginning it is all very straight forward but the more and more you learn about the battles the more you realize that it is a bit deeper than ur average rpg game.

Btw ff13 is a terrible game, that is camouflaged by good graphics. Rather have a good game with some less graphics instead.

Edit: Yeah I kind of know what the problem is, but as I said before those things take time to add or change to the game. The dialogue for an example is a Word document of almost 10.000 pages. That is not something you do in 1 evening.

So the problems will be sorted out piece by piece.

however alex didn't look at the bugs, he looked at the game itself
This makes absolutely no sense at all.

But to each their own, I suppose. It still doesn't excuse the classless dismissal of legitimate criticism on the author's part. He instead enlisted his buddies to come to RMN and write positive reviews, as if it would convince people otherwise.

I don't dismiss critics at all, I have improved the game on many points posted here already, like maximum text speed and a faster intro. Of course the end decision whether a critic is important lies with me. And to be honest rmn is not my main target audience. Most people here except something close to a game who which you can buy in stores. I think that a lot of people are too spoiled here with all them games.

But most people that I do speak find it already amazing that you made a game. Let alone a game who they really enjoy a lot.

But as I told you million times you and many other don't know what you are talking about. You think you know the game but you have actually no idea even in the slightest how it is.

He knows his game's crap, and he also knows no one is going to play it for more then 5 hours, so he says it gets good after 20 hours.
These mare a good example of critics that don't make any sense...moron...

There will be a running system in the game not sure if that is going to happen in 2.3 but it will come eventually. I already had such a system in the past but that caused all kinds of unseen bugs so I first need to test this throughout my game.

Most Run/Walk systems you see around interfere with touch events. A lot :/

Yeah I know that is the problem that I have so I'm thinking of ways to maintain the 2 goods of that.

@kismet2

Oh I don't listen to those people anymore, they need to do all the trouble to write a message every time while its a waste of energy. If they are happy by being a jerk let them be, I don't care at all. Being an internet jerk is often just an implication of having a bad self-esteem in real life and trying to compensate that by being a jerk.

There are plenty enough people who do enjoy my game and know what they are talking about because they played more than 1% of it. I rather focus on those people.

Just like in shutter island that you do not know in the beginning wtf is really going on.
Anyone with half a brain cell could call the "big twist" in that movie from the COMMERCIALS. Seriously. Worst movie ever.

Well I didn't see any commercials before that movie but that a bit besides the point. So far no one saw my twists in the story. But yeah you need to play a while before you get the big twists of course.

Ah ok in that case I cannot refuse, however I first want to release the next version before it get's lt'd. There are some important improvements and toned down vulgarity and a lot more.

w Review

Sorry what does LT mean xD?

The intro is much better now, it's text speed are maximized so it is a lot shorter. And in the next patch most of the vulgarity will be toned down as well in the whole game.
