author=Crystalgateauthor=StrangeluvIt is a good design if done right. There are a lot of (presumable interesting) things going on in the background that the player will (presumable) get to later. That way the player has a lot to lock forward to. However, this setup must be handled with great care.author=Super_stunnerDo you think this was a good design decision
Well it's not that the game get's better after 20 hours. It's just that the story has so many plot twists that you never know what's really going on.
Whatever the player is doing right now has to be interesting as well, you should not just promise things will get fun in the future while the player is shoveling dirt. If things are boring right now, how will the player be able to trust that things really will become fun later? Judging from the comments I've read, this isn't the case with this game. It has you do uninteresting stuff for the first 20 hours after which things maybe gets better.
You will also need a good phasing of the player getting involved with the grander scheme and gradually getting to know more. The player has to feel that she/he is actually making a progress. Even if it's unclear what the goal is, there are still ways to give the player a sense of progress.
Anyway, this can be a good design if your writing skill is up to the task. For most people however, I would not recommend trying to set up the story this way.
Very true what you're telling here. Though some people are really sucked in the story (even in the beginning) I'm still thinking how I can make it more interesting. I added some extra events in the new version but that's just silence before the storm.
author=kentonaauthor=MagiI am always curious as to where else people advertise their games. I've never really stumbled into that magical zone on the internets where RPG games are worshipped by masses of people, sending download counts into the stratosphere.
Regardless of the ire this game has accumulated, the fact that it has 4500 downloads means it's doing something right. You could really debate all day over why you think this game is/isn't good, but maybe the better thing to ask is what qualities in it have convinced so many people to download it?
A few games/makers have seemed to have found that.
I want in.
I post my game on a lot of forums that I'm member of. Soon I will post it on more websites but before I do that I want improve the game some more on some critics that were given here.

Yeah I think it is. I wanted that the biggies too happen some later in the game. Just like in shutter island that you do not know in the beginning wtf is really going on. If you want a story that starts with biggies earlier you'll better play part 1 or 2.
The story of part 3 is like a puzzle, and unless you have a the pieces you will not know the truth.

I'm fully aware that there are some things that need to be fixed and improved and I'm doing my best to do so. But some of you here will hate the game even if it gets improved. Which is of course fine because it's your opinion but I do know a lot of people who do enjoy my game.
So again, why bother all of your time posting here if you don't like the game? (I'm not talking about the people here that give good criticism from which I can improve my game)
Btw the slow text speed is already gone in 2.2 and the waking speed will be worked on in a later version.

author=Jerichoauthor=Super_stunnerThis is a funny post considering your reactions to a bad review
@Corfaisus
You're talking about pre-teen? I find it more amazing that a grown man like yourself (or whatever you think what that means) is bitching and moaning about my games on several websites for a really long time already. Nothing else do to in your life?
@NicoB
I don't know how I met the guy has anything to do with it. It is completely besides the point.
If you don't like the game why the hell are you still posting here, better play some other games instead.
In that topic he reviewer made some good points that can (and some of them will) be improved. But that still does not change the fact that you cannot judge a game by playing only 1% of it.

I find it a bit sad that when someone enjoyed my game he's almost implied being a idiot. These are people who beat my game and really know how it is. And maybe soon there will be more people that will beat my game and might write a review. How much have most of you play? Not even 1%, you have no idea how the game is you even though you think you do. It almost looks that some people are jealous that other people enjoyed my game. Really sad if that's the case.
If you don't like my game, fine but don't get all crazy on people who do like it.
And lordsummon is someone I met on vacation and then I introduced the game to him. (hes a veteran rpg player). And because he liked it I asked him if he would like to write a review of my game.

Busted!
(If people think that "vulgarity" is the biggest problem with this game from this review, they really need their clocks cleaned.)
Yeah, I already talked about this on the forums, the vulgarity will be toned down in the next version.

"I made a decision to do that/I did that on purpose" is not a valid response to an obviously disliked gameplay feature/quirk (or bug, as the case may be); that's simply dodging responsibility for poor design. It makes you look defensive and unable to take criticism - especially when the very first comment on a very comprehensive, well-written review of your game is basically to accuse the author of exaggerating everything and being completely wrong.
You cannot jugde a book if you only read 2 pages of it
And about that bug, its hardly bothering to anyone. And the other bugs are talking care of as we speak.
But I'm not going to rewrite (or rather said fuse) the whole magic system for such minuscule thing, if you don't like that don't play the game end of story. It's a free game for crying out loud.

...There is something seriously wrong if any game lasts 90+ hours. Either you suck, or there's a metric fuckton of padding. Yeah, games from my childhood were supposedly mega-epics, but really, games only lasted long because they were hard as hell and we often had little-to-no clue what we were doing. Out of curiousity, has anyone actually played this to the very end? Is it really 90+ hours? There has to be at least SOME padding to stretch it out that long. Like, hour long cutscenes or random encounters with monsters that have maxed out HP.
Also, how can there be so many bugs that they had to move bug reports to a forum (which you MUST post on or they'll NEVER bother fixing that shit EVER) if there were five playtesters?! And if they were "main" playtesters, wouldn't that mean there were secondary playtesters? That more than five people playtested this, and yet, it's still buggy? How in the world do you miss all these bugs when you have an entire team of playtesters?
And then someone made a Bethesda joke.
-Tabris
As far as I know around 20 people beated my game.
More people test played it but those are in the ending credits. About the bugs, the game is pretty much bug free if you look at the big picture. But due people request and changes so that new bugs are created. Too bad a lot of them happened in the beginning. Like the man that teleports you to a different location, that was clearly a test person that I forgot to erase.
A good example is that a lot of people want a running system, but such a running system causes all kinds of new unseen bugs in the game. because the other systems or events might not work with it.
And it is harder to find all bugs in a 90+ hours game than a 6 hour game for an example.
As it is now, the game has still some minor bugs but nothing game breaking anymore. And I think it can take a lot of time before all bug are erased because some events are so complex that you only see bugs if you do very strange things :P
