I don't usually bash kickstarters, but...

you call a game like unemployment quest garbage, which in all respects it is, but it's kind of funny that the people saying it, also produces the same quality of work.

kickstarter provides a lot of great opportunities for people, especially in the indie scene. and that's awesome.

http://rpgmaker.net/games/4166/

it is exactly like your project. i cannot tell the difference in quality. the fact that you think star stealing prince should be kickstarted should say a lot in itself.

i'm all about people jumping the kickstarter bandwagon. more power to you, but you need to have a certain level of quality to back that up, because you're competing with people who really deserve backing. yet another reason why society makes it incredibly difficult to get funding for creating art and entertainment for people.

unemployment quest: slipped through the cracks. bad game.
valdis story: awesome game, quality, work effort great concept (lol wuts valdis story)

if you can't tell the difference in game quality you need your head examined. and some people honestly
can't tell the difference.

kickstarter is big in indie right now. there are very few games worth supporting because most of them are 40k for cat pong and 20k for tower defense???? but, with that said it makes the games that really have unique ideas and visuals stand out that much more.

i've yet to see a rm game represented well enough to kickstart. it comes down to people using RTP and thinking it's okay, and it's not. like i said before, it's a great starting tool, but that's it. you should never be getting funding for other peoples material.

Polymorphous Perversity (18+ NWS)

use the most obscure/weird concept and then layer it with really bad gameplay. a++

i like that dude, you enter this cave of trannies and it is just, random spikes and a-b-c puzzle solving. wonderful. it's a shame you put that effort into trying to construct something unique and different and cripple it with the most unoriginal kind of game design.

once you get passed the basic concept, which loses its effect about 5 minutes into the game, it's pretty boring. theres really nothing to keep you interested.

still, grats on finishing a game.

Indie Game: The Movie

people here don't know who phil fish is because he isn't making an rtp ff game.

author=Darken
So i know it has been like 3 months. But i saw this movie on some stream just on a whim and actually... enjoyed it. A lot of the lines in the trailer are made fun of because they're a little ridiculous when taken out of context. Think the only dude I didn't like in the movie was the Braid creator, was so hilarious when he's like "they just didn't understand the meaning behind this game" and just fade cuts to soulja boy laughing at the game in some youtube video.

Everyone thinks Phil Fish is an egotistical dick, but the movie shows you where he's coming from. You basically have one or two people having the same amount of pressure as an entire dev studio. He seems self aware about his image in the indie community and actually beats himself a lot. These guys are under contract with the big M$, if the game doesn't do well they've basically spent the last 5 years doing nothing and getting nothing. Yeah the documentary is probably a little dramatic about it but every frackin documentary does that. idk I liked it.

i think it is funny you post relevant things here, dude. like, i never understood that about you. it is just 3 pages of hipster/tardis. like, it is kind of mind boggling that you waste your time trying to insert actual opinions here. idk, fish is a dick, but you can relate to him on a few levels. like the guy is a d--- but that is fine.

fez is beautiful, like i do not see how people can argue that, it is just 0 gameplay and the dude even says it is this weird casual thing. yeah, i think the braid guy is really funny, like he just says all of this deep shit about game design, mechanics and not people not understanding his game and it just pans to his game having this old donkey kong game level inserted into braid. and then he has this robot/super computer that notifies him instantly if someone types in braid and he just haunts these various locations.

i liked it, it was a nice insight into a few people, but stuff is really dramatic, like i can't imagine the main brain gz uploading vidiot game to xbox live and just weeping because he is now beyond wealthy. the movie is pretty interesting. i wanted it to not focus on fez, braid, and meatboy throughout the whole thing because there are like x amount of games worth bringing up, but w/e sells basically.

the funny thing dude the guy who worked on super meat boy the weird skinny guy just, even when they generated x amount of rupees via xbox live he is was just "heh cool...."

fish walks that line between being just absolutely awful to the most realistic human being on earthscape.

Commercial games are not allowed on RMN

yes, i am changing rmn one post at a time. no need to apologize, friend.

Commercial games are not allowed on RMN

he can sell an rtp game and generate x-amount of dollars but cannot read posts above. wonderful.

this site is freeware content. it should be kept that way. if people want to venture out and take another big step, rpgmaker as a community should embrace that and support it how they can(individually). it is a matter of quality control.

it's a slippery slope because you can understand where both sides are coming from. it's easy to understand kog's valid points, and it is easy to understand kentona. it is one of those "welp" situations.

advertising=asking for money, yeah, it's dumb on rmn. most people here are kids just cruising the internet and fooling around in rm. asking them for support and encouragement as loyal fans if they enjoy your game is that much, if not more powerful.

and...that is free.

Commercial games are not allowed on RMN

rmn would be the worst platform to generate interest. i'm sorry but, if he has the rule in or not, from an advertising perspective there are other "places" that you should be advertising on.

i didn't have a problem with vacant sky dropping a link on his rmn page(besides the fact he couldn't tell people what the funds would be used for, legit question imo), because if it weren't for 2 posters viewing it nobody would have even noticed it. it was off the page in 1 day (hello stupid blog posters with update:crat rpg)

if anything you did him a favor.

Harmonic did it.

hope you realize if it were jude, brandon abley, teo etc, the universal response would be "rad" "gg" "grats" because it's not an RTP game, where people actually have to put effort time and quality to generate a unique world for people to experience. if you're trying to do commercial this should be a base standard lol.

How is this even possible in RM2K3?

lol the girl has this huge ass sword and the guy has gloves XD
