An Official *English* Version of 2k3 Approaches!

how is having this legal relevant to anyone? like, people use these programs because of the vast amount of stolen/rips. so i do not see how making it legal improves anything.

you cannot sell it, so, what is the difference? it would be useful to a small minority of human beings who actually use original resources, but that's it.

i see all these people all for it, and it's just 99% RTP users so, i am honestly confused as to why making an outdated program legal would be helpful to anyone.

it would not even sell well because there are so many people riding on the xp, vx, whatever train where they can just insert various stolen scripts to create A++gameplay, if they had to actually work on certain mechanics it would probably blow their mind.

Skyborn - Indie "Steampunk fantasy" RPG

They're not a public domain resource, I meant that it's used in a bunch of RPG Maker games already that are released for free. I just want to clarify that point. I did not imply what you thought I did!

harmonic how does it feel as a creator who produces commercical rpgmaker games that the resources used to create your world is from material already used? i just don't understand. it's important to build a game graphically from the ground up and have your graphics and writing blend together to create a wonderful experience.

how is that any different from a guy picking up ff6 tiles and messing around? is that indie too? i thought the whole point of going commercial was so young designers can actually produce something of a certain quality.

doesn't that bother you? cutting corners for the sake of cutting corners. the fact of the matter is, i feel like if you're going to pricetag a game for 14 bucks i'm allowed to bring up these points.

idk dude. no offense, but you're just milking people 14 dollars with something that is really boring and generic. like, i realize if you advertise anywhere outside the rm community people will think its cool(aveyond effect).

it's pretty obvious you want to make money. i mean whats impressive about it? rtp tiles, rpt charsets, a hand drawn air ship? this is nothing unique you can't even take the time to produce your own style as a designer.

it pains me to say this, but calunio's projects are more inspiring than "heh i have new tiles someone made=can finally produce steampunk"

like, bro, seriously apparently you have a commercial game already. you can't afford to hire a tile artist or someone who can actually make your game worth it? you call it indie, but there is nothing indie about it.

the trailer says "explore a unique world" do you mean like space funeral or until you run out of steampunk chipsets lol.

i mean, i sound really harsh but if you're going to pay 14 bucks for something i really feel like it should be some kind of quality instead of typical rpgmaker4free game.

it's just from my perspective you just want to make money.

Indie Game: The Movie

Where's my overly-dramatic indie gamer montage? How long do you have to be an "Indie Game Maker" before you get an overly-dramatic montage? Did they cover that in orientation? They probably did. I skipped orientation though. The room was full of hipsters.

idk, i am sure it is hard to grasp when your scope of design does not go beyond rtp chipsets and move char right.

Help spreading around a Kickstarter?

kickstarter is hilarious because it's the only place on earth where people will donate to an uninspiring concept with a guy just speaking words at a camera and no trailer/prototype.

glad something like this has generated $$$ while games like american dawn struggle for a fraction of that.

like, it's really staggering. i have seen kickstarter projects where the videos are like "beyond" detailed and the guy is talking behind various gold statues. ya brah i am sure you need dat $$$. game on, brothas and sistas.

what i also like about these sites are people who really really want "swag" from a struggling indie game designer. like, bro if he had shit like t-shirts, gold bracelets with a pixel charset engraved on it he wouldn't need donations.

if you're going to donate to indie do it for the game, not because you want something/expect something back and just like to support the progression of creativity. like, you see a project like this:

and you know this guy is putting that effort into it. and you throw him a 5 because it is just, an utter delight to see content like this existing.

Going commercial?

game design school is a waste of time and money when human beings in the indie scene are making splashes. 1 course of college could probably pay for 1 indie game. i find it staggering how people will spend thousands of american dollars to go to digipen only to end up handing sandwiches to blizzard employees when they could have taken that 1% of money from school to create a project with full creative freedom.

god save the games.

Going commercial?

I am talking about specifically RM games. I agree with you that the indie scene is booming with some amazing games. The more you cruise that "area" of game design it makes rm feel really primitive.

So basically, 100% agree.

Going commercial?

It is not a matter of quality. Anything you give to consumers they will buy because human instinct is "Heh, I need this, I want this". It's called the Aveyond effect, which is selling rock soup.

If you create something entertaining and people enjoy it, there is no reason for you not to get a little chicken feed back to further projects to entertain people. It is not like the end game is to be "wealthy" just to pay your bills to feed your creativity.

With that being said, commercial indie games, especially RM related content are pretty much garbage all around. I have yet to see someone really take a leap in quality, more like "I made a bad game with RTP, scammed a bunch of people and got away with it"

Like, in my opinion if you're going to ask for 1 american dollar per download I think that is fine, but your game should be pretty up there in quality. It is just staggering to see the garbage that floats around for 19.99, and they get "dat change" because like I said humans want to buy, just to buy.

Too many examples of this. The problem is when someone goes commerical or just even as a hobby they're making a game with the mindset of "making a game" instead of trying to make an experience through a game.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 creeps from the shadows...

My brother bought this and said it was very good. I was still riding off the MVC3 high and I popped it in. It's really slow and it feels like you have absolutely no control. That's the problem with MVC3 once you get hooked on the freedom it is hard to play fighting games that have less control.
Once you get over the jet lag from MVC3 (understandably) you'll find that it's an excellent game. When it comes to strategy, technicality, pick up and playability, high level play, and well, being fun, 3rd Strike is hailed by a lot of people as being the best fighting game, period. Even if you don't think so, it's still very, very fun. It's depth is incredible. It's so fun to play against a friend and seeing how your techniques differ, even with the same character.

Yeah, I will agree with you that I have heard it's an excellent fighting game. Justin Wong plays it and floats back and forth to UMVC3. I dunno man, MVC3 has too many variables to not love it.

It's just neat to play as Jill or Strider. Like, yeah, playing Sakura or Dan is cool I guess. What is neat about UMVC3 is, and I have played a lot of fighting games in my lifespan, is when you play other people online and they pick a certain team, you start to see these weird strategies that they come up with based on their team and assist, and you're always seeing something new from different people. When you see this during a match it's just really really fun watching it or trying to come up with a way to get around it.

Some people will build a team around one character. Other people will save a character at the end. There will be a team that specifically builds meter to constantly burn supers. There will be a keep away team, there will be a zoning team.

And I think that's what makes it cool, when you start a match online you can't expect "jump kick" and "fireball" so you're constantly guessing. If there is one fighting game where you will see ridiculous things happen it is UMVC3.
